    I feel like little mix stayed consistent with their releases. Like they knew what we wanted and always gave us bop after bop pop songs. I honestly think if there wasn’t a surge in kpop, LM would’ve had a more prominent career in the states.

    • @hotsexyangel
      @hotsexyangel Před 2 lety +156

      I don’t think that’s the reason honestly, it’s rather that their label never properly promoted them in the states

    • @sounds0fmeows
      @sounds0fmeows Před 2 lety +81

      they weren't promoted properly. Little Mix's label did them dirty...
      back in the late 90's the Spice Girls were saturated all over Canada and the USA because their label promoted them heavily here (every kid knew them, you couldn't walk into Walmart, Zellers, Target, or small corner stores without seeing their merchandise on display), and they were fun. but Little Mix had nowhere the success and impact in North America like the Spice Girls which is a shame because they are very good group. their 3rd album 'Get Weird' reminded me of Spice World Album which was a fun pop album filled with bops. Black Magic is as Good as Wannabe, and Secrete Love Song is as Beautiful as 2 Become 1.

    • @rotisserie8444
      @rotisserie8444 Před 2 lety +9

      Nah they still would’ve stayed irrelevant . That’s not the problem at all.

    • @nonah7675

      Ironically, Little Mix songs often show up in iconic kpop moments. Salute, Wings, and Power/Strip were all featured on huge competition shows Girls Planet 999, Produce 101, and Queendom. These performances launched and revived the careers of members in various girl groups (izone, IVE, and AOA among others).
      Little Mix accapella covers are also a talent indicator among Korean girl groups.
      Honestly, kpop girl groups have done a better job promoting Little Mix than their own label.
      For whatever reason, there is a disconnect between American audiences and girl groups. It's an especially tough market for no discernable reason.

    I remember they said that their Black Magic performance at The BRITS was the first time people started to take them more seriously as performers and you can tell they knew that they had to get that performance perfect for that very reason. After this performance everything changed for them.

  • @jxstadri
    @jxstadri Před 2 lety +336

    Also, you forgot to add the fact that before Get Weird, they had an entire album ready to go but their label decided it wasn't good enough. Because of that, they couldn't do the North American Leg of their Salute Tour, because while they're where supposed to tour there, they had to write a complete new album, which became Get Weird then! A song that made it onto Get Weird from the scrapped album is 'I Love You', Leigh's fav infact.
    Also, their split from Syco nearly fucked them over again. Apparently, there was an album before Salute that was also scrapped. Just some of the things that happened, which kinda were not good.
    And the promo for them for the US kinda stopped after Columbia, or people from their management back then told them to flirt with all these important men so their songs would be played on the radio. But they didn't, which was good because the backlash they would have gotten, geez.

  • @cesquivel1999
    @cesquivel1999 Před 2 lety +398

    I became a little mix fan mid 2013 and have been a fan ever since, so it would be an understatement to say that being there with them throughout their career was a rollecoaster ride. It is a common sentiment to be frustrated at the mistreatment that they got from their label, especially because I firmly believe with the right push they could have become huge in the US. But instead of focusing on that, I can only be proud of how they always remained so steady in their success. Many other groups and artists blow up with a song or an album, are super popular for a couple years, then drop off completely. Little mix never had that “drop”, they always remained very constant and had a very strong and steady fanbase, which is so impressive. I am actually happier that they went out with such a strong career rather than only having a one-hit wonder situation. Little mix will always have such a special place in my heart since I basically grew up with them (i was 14 when i discovered them, I’m 23 now), and I cannot wait to see what all they will set out to do in their solo careers. Really well done video!!

    • @tjsquibbofficial
      @tjsquibbofficial Před 2 lety +7

      In terms of charting, the girls definitely had a drop. They weren't as consistent once LM5 era started tbh. Woman Like Me didn't do as well as the label and people thought it would, and Think About Us wasn't a good second single. Confetti did better than LM5, but Sweet Melody only went to No.1 cause of the fans and it was viral. The other singles didn't chart that well. Then, OT3's songs were very hit and miss. Kiss My (Uh Oh) and Heartbreak Anthem were very radio friendly but only got pushed due to the features (and the fact with the first one, only Anne-Marie promoted it, not LM) but yet, still underperformed for the most part. Then after those two songs, the girls started bombing both in terms of CZcams Views and chartwise, with Love (Sweet Love) peaking at 33 and No peaking at No 35. Both of the MVs barely scraped past 10M views.

      @A Beautiful Country They were able to make millions and break records. They've sold out, and had the fifth and eighth highest gross tour for their fourth and third album alone without entering America.(UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, etc). America doesn't know them fully, but the industry does and they've made an impact. I think people forget America isn't the only continent, and just like other groups, you can be extremely popular in several and miss a few, but still be successful. They're one of the biggest, and in my (and others') opinion, they only girl groups that can top them are their predecessors like the Spice Girls, TLC, Girls' Generation, any iconic girl groups before them that they've learned from.

    I watched every episode of the search… it was pretty good. Although, they definitely didn’t make the right choice with the winners…… they ended up creating 6 bands, 2 of which only have al the members left / stayed together.
    The best band in my opinion was ‘nostalia’ an R&B band which were AMAZING. 2 members left shortly after the search ended and the remaining 3 members didn’t last long after that.
    The winning band was called since September who did open for the confetti tour but a few days after the tour ended a member left the band, leaving 3 members.
    The only bands to stay together were a pop band with 5 members called Meladaze, and a hip hop band, similar to N Dubz, called YChange…
    You might still be able to watch the show on BBC Iplayer if it’s still on there… that’s where I watched it at the time !
    Disclaimer; there was a part in the search where Jesy and Leigh kept butting heads, it was very weird at the time. So I personally think they already knew Jesy was leaving at the time…
    Also, Perrie seemed a sad some of the time and Jesy and Jade were missing from every other episode towards the end… it was a very weird atmosphere…
    It seemed like if Jesy was there, Jade wasn’t. And if Jade was there, Jesy wasn’t… very strange.

  • @Senate300
    @Senate300 Před rokem +2

    This is one of those "you need me to go on?" type of videos because when it comes to the Little Mix Legacy and why they were the best Girl Group of their generation, for me it's these..
    1) Four lead singers with four distinct voices, which was unheard of at the time proving the old formula of singling out one frontwoman to be obsolete.
    2) Some of their album tracks are just as, if not more powerful than their hit singles which would leave room for debate over their single choices.
    3) Little Mix wore their influences on their sleeves yet musically still managed to maintain their own identity via versatility.
    4) If the Spice Girls preached Girl Power, Little Mix lived it. Their chemistry together on and off stage, in and out of the recording studio was undeniable to the point where we all believed in their professed sisterhood.
    5) Under the mentorship of Tulisa Contostavlos, Little Mix were the first group to win the X-Factor at a time mentoring the groups was considered the kiss of death to any judge assigned that category.
    6) Little Mix lasted as long as Girls Aloud and surpassed them in terms of record sails. 10 years to be exact.
    7) When they won Best British Group at the 2021 Brit Awards, that was seen as a victory for Girlgroups everywhere. From those that came before them or after them since that category was always dominated by Rock & Indie bands.
    All of this is coming from a man who's interest in Little was generated after their announced hiatus which makes me late for the party. I also look forward to seeing what they're capable of as solo artists which in my opinion would be a full circle moment. Since Jesy was the bomb to drop, now it's a question of who's next?🧨💥💣💥

    I've been a fan of Little Mix since the beginning and have seen them live on multiple occasions but their albums were VERY hit or miss for me. So much filler in amongst gems. I also hate that they never really managed to properly break through in the rest of the world; they were reasonably well-known in Europe, yes, but they weren't exactly selling out massive arenas like some of their peers. I feel like their cultural impact outside of the UK might be slightly overstated. Still - it's been nice to see their growth since the beginning.

    Hey Jasmine, love your video but i found a minor mistake… you said that somewhere after the 11 minute mark joan of arc was a single. They had Woman like me & think about us and that was it. Strip became a promotional single for the album and more than words got a video but Joan of arc was not. It was intended to but the label thought it would be to risque. Same about Wasabi.
    Also, thank you for not erasing Jesy out of the history of Little Mix. You‘re being very respectful with the current situation and that‘s a big plus🙏. Sending nothing but love your way☺️🙏❤️

    I love Little Mix. I think my first experience with them was Amber Riley's DWTS performance but I could be wrong. That was definitely when I fell in love and became obsessed.
    I will say I'm not the biggest fan of their live performances as a 3-piece. Their songs have always had such amazing balance between the 4 of them that taking out Jesy (whose voice is so unique and rich) makes the songs feeling like they are missing something (because they were written/mixed/recorded/intended for 4 very different voices).
    When I was watching the last concert I thought about them in comparison to Destiny's Child. DC's last album had more balance but the previous ones were very Beyonce heavy so you could potentially switch out one singer that wasn't Beyonce and the song would sound mostly the same (which is what they did when they became a 3-piece). But Little Mix doesn't do that.
    They have each member start different songs and each member has an important part of each song. That's why I wish they would've 1. been able to tour with Jesy during the Confetti era before she left (Confetti was such a different sound than their previous albums so it would've been nice to see more of all 4 doing songs from that album) and 2. made a full album of just the 3-piece before they when on hiatus.
    They have been going strong for 10+ years and have grown so much so they deserve a break but I would be lying if I said I didn't want them to get back together sooner rather than later to put our more music as a group. Your video was great thanks for taking the time to make it!

    Honestly, we Mixers have tried so hard to make girls "get more recognition" but it's really not necessary. They are already stars, they are already referents, they have already left a legacy with iconic songs and eras. When they return I am sure they will continue to maintain their style and essence regardless of trends or the call of the record companies to create songs just to sell. They already have us as Mixers who will always be there. (I also hope they work things out with Jesy but that will take time to heal)
