I know that technically it's just a swatch sheet, but would anyone else consider framing it and hanging it on the wall as art, or just me? 😂 So very pretty, but why do I always fall for the very expensive primatek colors? 😂 Video was so very worth the wait.

@@stiviwonders People have a right to be informed of the company's practices in concealing the actual constitution of their products, especially when they are priced at a premium and are geared towards artists who will sell their work. I love PrimaTeks and continue to use them regularly because the texture and effects to me are not achievable by other lines, but that doesn't mean I don't support disclosing the company's practices to others. I 100% love the paints and 100% dislike the approach Daniel Smith took in their marketing, and then in their response when people started asking questions. A company must stand with integrity and transparency behind the quality of their products, and I believe if DS had been forthcoming about ingredients, the line would still have been successful due to the performance of the products, and would have contributed to goodwill among consumers.
@@anicelery4764 Well put! That's why we need to encourage passion and inspiration first because from there, people will develop the motivation to question the surface or to do their own research. That's what I am aspiring to do in this channel. This channel is designed to be a destination for Color and Calm -- the heart of what we do in watercolor. Because once that is tapped, I have faith that it will drive people to pursue further knowledge. We live in a time where there is an overwhelming amount of noise. What I am endeavoring to achieve here is to create a path back to the fundamentals and then hope that people would use the information they gather from the channel to deepen their connection with watercolors. The PrimaTek situation offers an occasion for watercolorists to appreciate thorough research and to be responsible for finding factual information that applies to them or makes sense to them. The goal is to inspire people to find or explore their own journey. Specifically, to pick up the brush and start creating. That comes first, the crux of the matter.
While I am with you there 100% and acknowledging that you want to contribute to this conversation, it seems misplaced. Your Comment needs to be directed to Daniel Smith. Everything you said needs to be shared with them. I do not work for the company and this is not their channel.
This is important to note, because I've found the colors to *not* be consistent. E.g. Blue Apatite Genuine looked VERY different when swatched from the dot card onto my normal paper (Canson Heritage 140 CP) and what came in the tube I later purchased. What came in the tube was like a totally different paint, both in hue and behavior.
@@mnap1595 Thank you for sharing! That seems to be a recurring theme with Daniel Smith Watercolors, particularly with their PrimaTek line. Dot cards are supposed to offer a window on what to expect from the tube but what you experienced is not in alignment with that. Have you reached out to them?

I really like D.S. PV15's Ultramarine violet. One of the strongest in all the brands I have, certainly.

Not sure if it was intentional, but the etching marks in the first two swatches created a rather intense effect. Also, Napthamide Maroon is a color I'd have considered including here. To me, it's a purple hue and creates some AMAZING colors when mixed.
P.S. Purpurite! 😍 That doesn't exist in the 238 dot card I got. Lovely!
Glad you enjoyed the video, especially Purpurite! This paper block may have arrived with surface scratches but yes, the after-effects helped build an interesting visual experience. I loved amythest genuine when I first swatched or from a dot card! Unfortunately I really don't like sparkles in my watercolor 😅 And unfortunately my favorite purple pigment is pv3 which isn't offred by many companies because of it's lightfast issues 💔
PV3! Yes, that's a beauty. I can see where the Amethyst watercolor can cause some concerns. There are specific situations for it and actually, the sheen or sparkle is not glittery. It is just a natural glisten on the surface. In light to slightly heavier washes, this effect from the crushed gemstone is not that visible. But maybe your experience is different from mine. What purple or violet do you use more often now then?
@@stiviwonders for now my most used purple is dioxazine purple, but I am trying to force myself to give other purples a chance 😅
@@E4Alabbasy It is a good choice! It seems to be the multi-purpose violet nowadays due to its broad tonal range.
White Nights' Violet is a pure P.V.3, just for your information. Not very lightfast (has one star, out of 3 stars for the most lightfast colors), but gorgeous! :)

Thank you for swatching these. I've swatched from the dots, but some colors just don't swatch well from such a small quantity of paint, especially the Primatek colors, so I'll have to reconsider some of them now. It's interesting how similar colors evoke opposite reactions from me. I hate Imperial Purple because of the way it granulates, but I love Rose of Ultramarine for exactly the same reason.
You're very welcome! I am so glad that I am able to capture some intricate details for others to see. My Imperial Purple does not get a lot of use but the Rose of Ultramarine is fitting for Springtime magnolia blooms.

@@stiviwonders I’m not sure, to be honest. I don’t like PV19 violet, but your version looks nice and it is a useful mixer. I never used PV29 before, and I would like to try it as an alternative to earth hues. I’d also like to try PV23 one day; and Rose of Ultramarine looks interesting. Having said that, I’m not a fan of Daniel Smith 😄.
