    Gotta say, I'm impressed that you kept the paints to high quality that won't clog or cause inconsistent color due to pigment & media quality.

    I usually put the reducer in the mixing cup first. Paint can't stick to the bottom or sides that way. Plus when it's real thick like that blue, it's easier to read the numbers

      Yeah, that's an option, but most of the time I improvise on how much paint I'll be using, lol. I don't want to overthin if I use less paint than initially expected, and I don't like making too much as I hate to waste, even with cheap craft paints, lol.

    My home made thinner is close to yours, and works great, never a issue, I don’t recommend Craft paints to beginners, to many issues with the airbrush, Known Nozzle size is paramount on talking paints, as is air pressure, and I stress shaking craft paints as well, you can’t shake paints enough, I add a few Stainless balls to my paint, and store them on there side, because, once paint pigment settles on the bottom of the container, it’s really hard to get it mixing again, and I use a home made mixing device, that truly does a great job, and it still may take a few more minutes! Craft paint isn’t for beginners!

      Thanks for watching! There are a lot of folks that have their own formula, and most are very close with some having an extra ingredient, but most are just different measurements and amounts. I agree that shaking paints is super important for getting the pigments moving. I actually learned how to airbrush with craft paints and haven't tried any solvent based paints yet, so I don't know about how different the paint types mix, thin, or spray.

    Great video and How-To, thank you!
    FYI, Folk Art Color Shift paint does not work well with alcohol. When I tried a mix using alcohol, it caused the paint to clot up within 2-3 minutes in my airbrush and it was very difficult to clean out.
    I'd suggest that when trying to use alcohol with any water-based paint for the first time, let it sit for a while after mixing it in the mixing cup to ensure there are no adverse effects. When there are problems, I just use water and glycerin to thin the paint.

      Thanks! Thanks for the heads-up and info. That's weird about the color-shift paint, I'll have to buy one and try it since I haven't tried the color-shift yet. I've never had a problem with this formula in any other acrylic paint, including Tamiya Acrylics, Testors Acrylics, Vallejo, Createx, or any brand of craft paint. Must just be something that's used in the color-shift.

      @@StumpyGrumpsScaleSpeedShop, You're welcome. It probably is just an issue with this paint, I haven't had any trouble with other paint brands since this one either. Nice color paint.
    You said you are thinking of a new airbrush. I own 11 airbrushes in an assortment of brands. In my opinion, GSI Creos (The Mr. Hobby People) airbrushes are hard to beat and are less expensive than an Iwata (rumors say the Creos and Iwata come from the same factory) or Badger and just as good.
    A sleeper airbrush are the ones from Neoeco. Very inexpensive but spray great and have great customer support and they actually listen to their customers. Neoeco has been making airbrushes for many Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese companies for several years.

    • @StumpyGrumpsScaleSpeedShop
      @StumpyGrumpsScaleSpeedShop  Před 11 měsíci

      Sorry for the late reply, I use primer for every part I paint regardless of what kind of paint I'm using. I especially feel like primers are necessary when using craft paints. I mostly use Stynylrez Primers through my airbrush (they are airbrush ready in the bottle), but on occasion I will use Rustoleum and/or Brite Touch from the can.

    Could I substitute Isopropyl alcohol for another product? Cause here in my country it’s almost impossible to find it
    If I try to buy it on a website, it’s even more expensive to real hobby thinner (more than $40 for 100ml)

      @StumpyGrumpsScaleSpeedShop  Před rokem

      Sorry, I don't know of any substitutions for the isopropyl alcohol to use in this formula. Before using this formula, I was using plain blue automotive windshield washer fluid, which works good as well. Even though it's blue, it won't affect any colors, I've used it to mix with white and clear without leaving any tint at all.

    • @jgarcia3949

      A little late to the party but, if you can get grain alcohol (for drink mixing) or vodka
      These make a good substitute for the iso, if your old enough to purchase them
      Btw just like the other comment I’ve seen the iso alcohol clumping effect and not just with color shifting paint, take one drop of folkart for example and mix in one drop of straight iso and you will see this happen, so obviously the water iso balance is important
      Great channel btw subbed
