      Exactly what I was thinking. She meant it to this current team. Did she ever have kidney disease and be told she may never do what she loves the most then totally prove it wrong and make a second team as an AA champion? No, she did not. The injuries are sad. @@rbrinks5 I agree she has the life she wants and that's amazing! She didn't want to continue in the competitive gymnastics world. I saw the original video, where she said several times how she sort of wished she had been at these Olympic Trials which I thought was understandable (after seeing all the mistakes). But then she kept saying more and more about what a "mess" the competition was.... and other than Simone, the rest don't have the talent or work ethic. etc etc... it made her look ugly. She made her choice 3 years ago. For her, it was the right choice. But no need to publicly slag former teammates. They won their spot on the team - even if it wasn't their best performance ever. If she had stayed in gymnastics, she might have made the team this time, but she chose a different path 3 yrs ago.

      @@ShannonBoon-gy1up I don't see anyone on the team she might have ever bumped off. Except for maybe Rivera, but when you look at the team they are so deep on floor and vault, that Rivera with her beam fills a bigger need than she ever would, especialy as Biles and Lee have had some unusual misses on beam lately, and Skinner herself was never consistent enough on beam. I guess Chiles is also possible, but Chiles is a stronger AA gymnast due to her far better bars, and the only event Skinner at her best might score higher on is vault and not by that much.

      @@ShannonBoon-gy1up So some of the girls had a bad meet at Trials? It happens. I agree Trials was not great, Biles won by something crazy like 6 points (granted she sometimes wins by that anyway) despite having unusual mistakes since the other girls had so many problems too. But it is not like Skinner is not prone to mistakes in her prime too, as we all remember, in addition to her form issues, and being mainly only a 2 event gymnast- floor and vault, with a 3rd sort of capable event in beam. Which was a big problem for her even in her prime, since vault and floor is where the US is strongest and she was always overshadowed by Biles, Raisman, Carey on those events which left little space for her.
      I can see her seeing the mistakes and feeling it was an opportunity missed, but I still think all things considered her odds wouldn't be that great. But we will never know, and she didn;t handle the feeling well. There was a way to say what she felt without dissing anyone. She could just say the Trials weren't the best meet for the girls and it made her feel more frustrated it might have been an opportunity missed for her, as she still felt capable and strong, and feels she maybe could have bumped someone off the team. Nobody would be upset at that.

      @privatepo5876 Před dnem

      A proper apology involves taking responsibility, being specific about the wrongdoing, and explaining how it could have been handled better. Her “apology,” however, was a condescending “sorry you took it wrong,” which implies the listener is not intelligent enough to understand her words, adding insult to injury. She gaslit those who fully listened. While it’s possible that someone’s words can be poorly articulated and lead to misunderstandings, a sincere apology would clearly specify what was misinterpreted. We’ve all experienced situations like this. In such cases, you would quickly clarify that the misunderstanding was unintentional and be in the mission to explain exactly what was misunderstood. Look at Shannon’s Sharpe apology to Megan The Stallion for a proper example of an apology.

I’d rather see them fall at Trials and nail it at the Olympics. They earned their spots and she did mean what she said. Time to grow up. She would not last with what’s required now. ANY of the gymnasts who made the Olympic Trials are hard workers because it’s an intense and difficult sport!
    Her “apology” did nothing to help because she did not take accountability for her hurtful comments and instead blamed it on misunderstanding.

      @nicoles9077 Před 3 dny

      It’s a free country and she is entitled to her opinion. I’m so tired of soft people and their hurt feelings. I happen to agree with her. Though it unfortunate that shilese got injured, aside from her and Simone the other gymnasts on the team will have a hard time medaling on individual events and the USA really didn’t have that problem in the past. Other countries have caught up and gymnasts such as Suni and Jade will be lucky to medal on UB and vault this quad. The Brazilian and Italian gymnasts have come such a long way while our gymnasts who compete in college struggle for months to get their difficulty back. Look at what happened to Leanne Wongs gymnastics since she went to college. Her elite gymnastics skills are worse while other non American gymnasts pass us by. Out of over 300 million people we have no decent beam workers to compete with the Chinese? Konner and Skye were our best beam workers and they got hurt. But realistically Skye is inconsistent and Konnor would have to up her difficulty to medal. There needs to be a real conversation about the direction of American gymnastics and why things have fallen off since the Karolis. Is it a work ethic issue, poor balance between elite and college skills, poor instruction? Something’s amiss and people shouldn’t be shamed on social media for stating an ugly truth. With a couple of mistakes I can see this team coming back with a silver again or no medal at all if they crash on beam like they did in trials. It is what it is.

      @@nicoles9077wth are you talking about? The US has consistently won world team medals lately and the difficulty is still at the level of last Olympics. Suni has a massive D score on beam and bars and let’s not even start on Simone’s vaulting. Also people weren’t upset about her take on today’s gymnastics but rather her putting the girls down talking about work ethic. She thinks that a woman with kidney disease doesn’t have work ethic? She was always a privileged * who was taken out of consolation last Olympics because she was close with the guy in charge on team selection. She even got a medal with her atrocious landings so she should be grateful she had her chance and not be miserable.

    • @nicoles9077
      @nicoles9077 Před dnem

      @@luzcannon9753 yes the US has consistently won world medals because we have always had good all arounders that were way better than other gymnasts. That gap is closing if you look at other gymnasts around the world. We’ve always won because we stayed ahead of other gymnasts. You have to ask yourself why. I don’t care how skinner framed her remark. I don’t get butt hurt when someone asks a legitimate question. USA used to brag how they could bring two teams to a competition and clean up. We can’t say that anymore because our girls have lost a lot of their consistency and the elite athletes who do college gymnastics aren’t progressing in their skills because college gymnastics is a step down in difficulty from elite and they struggle to get their elite skills back when they do international competitions. Tell me I’m wrong. Rebeca Andrade has perfected her Cheng vault while olympians from the last quad such as chiles, Carey and Wong have nowhere near the level of form Rebeca has. Mind you Jade was a heavy vault favorite above Rebecca in the last quad had she not made that mistake. Jade will be lucky to get a bronze on vault this time around. Aside from Simone and shilese the other gymnasts will be lucky to place third on the individual apparatuses and I think that’s a shame considering how well our gymnasts used to do and we are essentially returning the same team. Yes, I concede Suni was sick and is coming back from illness. But she might have had the same fate as the other gymnasts who went to college and regressed. Looking at Leanne Wong. Flavia of Brazil and a few of the Italian gymnasts have gotten so much better over the past years and you can see it. Their difficulty is harder and they are a lot cleaner. Simone has definitely gotten better, but I can’t say the same thing for the other team members.

  • @amandastumpff5252
    @amandastumpff5252 Před 3 dny +13

    I was a huge fan of hers for so long, but no elite gymnast can ever be characterized as lazy or not having a good work ethic. It’s just not possible. The two do not go together. Some gymnasts are so incredibly talented that they don’t have to put in quite as many routines or as many hours in the gym, and I think this is seen to her as laziness. And maybe she is upset that there are people out there who can train a lot less to take care of their bodies and still get those high amazing scores and dominate. Unfortunately, she was unable to do that. There were so many other things she said that were wrong, just flat out factually wrong, like she couldn’t believe gymnasts had falls at Olympic trials and still made the team. If you go back and check the last 50 years of people making the teams, there has always been one person making the Olympic team, who has fallen at trials. Someone has always fallen at trials on every single Olympic team. So that’s not a fact at all. In 2016 it was Gabby and Madison. In 2021 it was Grace I believe and Simone. Plus, she said under Bela and Marta, the US always dominated. And that’s just not true. They didn’t win gold until 1996, so all of that time in the 80s and early 90s, they did not dominate, and then it was the same in 2000 and 2004. The US team has only dominated in 1996, 2012, and 2016. That’s it. So so many things she was presenting as factual were untrue. There’s a lot more, I watched the entire video, but not everything is coming to mind since it was taken down, unfortunately. Again, I think she had a lot of regret because she sees four of her former Olympic teammates up there, and I think she really wishes she could be up there and the only way to make herself feel better is to somehow say that they are not as good as when she was on the team. It makes her feel better. Not to mention that she couldn’t even remember which gymnast had fallen twice and gotten second place, which was Suni, someone she claims as one of her best friends and a teammate from only three years ago. And she could not believe she was put on the team. And she couldn’t even pronounce Hezly’s name correctly and said it was a crazy name. Her husband Jonas had to keep correcting her from off camera. It just kind of reeks of entitlement and how she would have definitely made the team if she would have stayed on because of all those injuries. With the scores that happened that night, and with her scores, she had back at Olympic trials, she would have placed either sixth or seventh. so I’m betting she would not have made the team even though she feels she would have. And I think that’s where the envy comes in and becomes the reason for all of her comments. And the fact that she said all this, and then thought it was OK to post it and assumed everyone would be agreeing with her. yes, things gotten a little bit more laid-back, but the incredible over correction had to happen because of all the intense abuse that was happening for so many years, that she herself said she was lucky enough to escape. She had fantastic coaches, and her apology, she said she was actually talking about her own gym and her coaches, so then she threw them under the bus. And in her original video, she did not mention her coaches at all so that doesn’t even fit. And her coach said the only reason Mykayla escaped any serious injuries and having to go visit that horrible team doctor is because she has absolutely no flexibility, and because of that, she has been saved a lot of injuries, ironically. And through all of this, all of her former teammates have either unfollowed her or have made comments about how sad they are with what she said.

It seems like the comment was directed at all the top gymnasts “except Simone”, and not just gymnasts in general, which is pretty bold to say. Is she talking about “lack of difficulty” in routines or something else? I’m really not getting what she is referring to. Also, the field this year was too stacked even with the gymnasts that got injured being out of the running, for Mykayla to have a chance at making the Olympics again. It was a little shady, but she's probably right that it may apply to some gymnasts. Cut the new team some slack, they had to slowly pace themselves, especially Suni who has 2 kidney diseases. Jade, and Jordan had to juggle elite, and College gymnastics, and may have been viewed as "lazy" to some people. They're older, and the recovery process is longer, so they had to stick with their pacing plans without getting injured. I like Myk. I have a lot of respect for her, and what she's achieved, but she was a sloppy gymnast, and seemed like the type to get overzealous with training difficult moves, and didn't pace herself by sacrificing her form. She worked hard, but not smart.

      and many like Shilese Jones , Paid that price with injuries and not coming to Paris ... there will never be a global understanding of what the masses want

      I agree with that observation and thats clearly the movement currently to care for the athletes . No one said she cant vocalize her opinions or she shouldnt have free speech , but one thing is to say something then pretend that thats not what you meant when you receive a bit of criticism. Additionally to imply that you who have not been training could have made a team is a bit insulting to the athletes who have been working tirelessly in trying to master their skills … not even Simone wakes up and performs at peak and to be real not even at her peak was Skinner successful… maybe it was a joke but she said it and she meant it.. I would have been like well o well if she said yea I said that maybe I was wrong but I believe Im right … that would be more genuine than trying to take back what she said and blame others for misunderstanding

I dont think MS would have been on this team, even SB who is built for endurance and gifted had to train really hard and had plenty of flaws during the trials , Biles beam routine is not as Solid and secured as it is been in the past , Vault , yes big time difficult but not always consistent (we watch it every time with a hand in the chest) we never know how Biles is going to land and Bars .. the same , we always super concerned , she just makes it quick to get past by before we know it .. and thats Simone, .. Skinner sure needs to think before she speaks. Sure she has the right to say what she wants, but she is up to receiving criticism then. Plus, I do not agree with her. Sure there were mistakes, but she made plenty of mistakes also. The nerves at trials was on display. But these amazing, hardworking athletes deserve to be on the Olympic team. If we don’t win gold, it’s ok! But I think they will do great.
