- Dr. Peter Coleman, who is Board-certified in Addiction Medicine and has been in recovery from opioid use himself since 1984, shares some thoughts on the drug loperamide, which many of our channel's users have asked about. It is a great over-the-counter treatment for traveler's diarrhea, but it also has some misuse potential.
-Safe, Comfortable Outpatient Detox
The Coleman Institute for Addiction Medicine has been a leading outpatient addiction treatment center since 1998. Our innovative withdrawal management programs, often referred to as The Coleman Method, have helped thousands of people free themselves from addiction to Alcohol, Opioids, and Benzodiazepines. Originally founded in Richmond, Virginia, our network has expanded to cover 14 cities across the US.
-3 - 8 Day Opioid Detoxification Process
For short-acting opiates like oxycodone, most patients complete their detox and begin Naltrexone therapy within 5 days. Longer-acting opiates like Suboxone and Methadone typically take 8 days. Our standard opioid treatment package in Richmond, VA, Wellesley, MA (Boston area) and Willoughby, OH (Cleveland area) includes the detox and 6 months of case management and Naltrexone therapy. As a non-addictive opioid blocker, Naltrexone dramatically reduces cravings so that patients can focus on their recovery. We have a 98% success rate for completing detoxification and starting Naltrexone therapy. During the detox, we work with patients and their families to develop an appropriate aftercare plan. We also offer a convenient, 3-day outpatient alcohol detox and a Rapid Benzodiazepine Detox.
-Caring, Empathetic Environment
Dr. Peter Coleman understands first-hand the challenges our patients are facing due to his own personal struggle with the disease of addiction. He has been in long term recovery since 1984. Dr. Coleman has dedicated his career to treating addiction patients and creating a team and an environment conducive to long term recovery for his patients.

I have multiple sclerosis and have bowel and bladder issues. I take no more than two tablets per day . For me it has been a game changer and I no longer have urgency issues. I have just ordered another 500 tablets on Ebay from India. Loperamide has given me back my dignity.
Saved my life and got me off 30 years of pill opiate addiction. I kno iv only substituted but I don't have $ 75,000 to go to a spa rehab. Doing what I can
How many were you taking at a time? I'm getting some but worried about taking too many. Can you still poop on it or does it completely block you up?
I was hooked on lopermaide and it caused me to have a cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation - brought on by using lopermaide daily.
It is dangerous and it WILL kill you.
I wasn't even taking the numbers he mentions, I was on maybe 60mg per day, and that over time had me dead for 20 minutes and in a coma for 5 weeks.
Good video keep it up, you’re
Gonna take off before you know it

I really wish I would have found you a little sooner, but I died from congestive heart failure from years of 100mg a day loperamide.i know it's heart toxic...but I'm an addict so....
Hi - Very sorry to hear about this. Thank you for sharing your story. Best wishes.
What? Are you truly daft? The person is saying he/she died… 😐
@marcus, science does allow for resuscitation these days yano 🤷🏻♀️ it's called return of spontaneous circulation
I was taking 2 full bottles of loperamide at a time, each bottle contained 48, 2mg pills. I did this out of desperation to avoid heroin withdrawal. No euphoria, just a sick feeling & lessened withdrawal symptoms. I’m fortunate that my heart didn’t stop.
That's too much. You could've gotten away with 12 or 15 to lessen withdrawal symptoms
@@SAMEntalhealth does that really work?
@@MrAkaprimetime oh yeah. You don't need so many, just taks 8 with some pepcid AC, take the pepcic 30 mins before the loperamide, itll allow the loperamide to cross the blood brain barrier and make you feel wonderful through withdrawal lol
@@MrAkaprimetime this guy got sick because he took too many which forced some of it across the blood brain barrier, but by overload. But if you take the tagamet pepcid 30 minutes prior to let's say, 8 loperamide. It will allow more of the loperamide across the blood brain barrier. It increases the amount of the opioid (loperamide) in the bloodstream
@@SAMEntalhealth how long or how many days are you supposed to take that for?
The!Love it!unreal !see ya!! ;)
Well i never knew that it was an opioid....ive been taking it for years for crohns sometimes just need 2 a day but when my crohns is worse i can take up to 8 a day but never more than 8 in 24hrs ...how do people go on taking hundreds ? Jeez they wouldnt have a bowel movement for 6 months 😮
It only effects the opiod receptors in the gut. It does not cross blood brain barrier, in other words it does give you the high that every addict wants. That's why its over the counter an not locked up.
No that's not the way it works but you can use you can go to the bathroom it's I've used it before as well and it does work you can go to the bathroom
Nasty shit. U can literally feel the cardiotoxic effects from abuse
