    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 5 lety

      Hey and thanks!! We actually ended up discussing Defenders with V8's on this trip. Both me and Ørjan want's one. :) So you are lucky! But it cost i guess. Im seeing numbers around 0.8 to 1.0 liters per 10km in my TD5. What does your V8 use?

    • @erikiversen4497
      @erikiversen4497 Před 5 lety +1

      The power from idle almost can't be described. Though it's only a 3.5 and not the big 4.6. I actually only used a quarter of a tank on this trip. I'm pleased with that. Offroad trips before has been demanding a refill every time. I think consumption is about 13 to 15 liters per 100 km. But I easely see those 20th numbers when demanding the power for higher climbs on longer trips as we did this summer. The jerrys are on the roof for a reason!

    • @isibw0
      @isibw0 Před 5 lety +1

      @@LandRoverDrive The average petrol consumption on my 110 is about 20-22 litres per 100km.i have seen 30 litres in snowing conditions using low range and central diff locked. My V8 engine running on SU carburators. Some people change their SU carbs with EFI from Discovery or Range rover vehicles. That gives a 15-20% of fuel economy they said.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 5 lety

      So basically double of the TD5. I think I will stick with my TD5 for now as im spending enough money on fuel already. :) On the longer trip this would make a huge difference. But some day I will own a V8. :)

    A great video with wonderful scenery and driving on virgin snow! At one point I thought the TD5 wasn't, but I'm sure I am wrong, as you wouldn't have made that amateur mistake would you lol? using the centre diff as it appeared that only the front drivers side wheel was slippingAmazing how capable the 1976 Rangie is still. It was a ground breaking vehicle from its inception in 1970. Seeing that roof rack on that reminds me that the roof was a separate bolt on structure with the gutter being pop riveted to the framework of the roof, and it can't take a great deal of weight, so beware! Oh and the fuel consumption on the V8? If the fuel duty on LPG ( liquid petroleum gas) or GPL in France and Germany is less than the fuel duty on petrol I would put the V8 on gas. Here in the UK LPG is around half the price of petrol. I run a 4.2 supercharged 2006 Range Rover on gas otherwise I could not afford to run it. The performance differences are negligible until you get to very high speeds( way above the UK legal limit I hasten to say lol)

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před rokem

      Thank you again! That was one of the best days out off roaring that we have had. Perfect amount of snow and so much fun. The TD5 has it perks with its clearance but the RRC, with how the suspension was set up here, had a bit of an advantage as it followed the ground so smoothly. The RRC was amazing of road and still is as you will see later in a video from this past summer. 🤙😊 Erik had the roof rack on for some good years and he haven’t had any issues with the roof that I know of. I think the heavies thing he had on there was the spare wheel, I don’t think he ever filled up the spare jerrycans. He now got another car as a daily sparing the RRC for trips and joy rides. He will be doing some mods to it to make it a bit better so stay tuned for that. LPG is cheaper here as well and you can find some who have converted to it, a bunch of P38’s has done it, Erik actually had one back in the day. 😁 Land Rover speed is enough speed, enjoying the ride and driving a car you love. 🤙😊

    Hey great video guys. I have an LR4 and interesting to see here it seemed to struggle more than the 110 and the Range Rover in the snow. Is that because of its huge weight, or the tyre choice,
    or is the LR terrain response just not that good in the snow. .... or maybe driver technique...? Good work and nicely filmed. 👍

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 4 lety

      Hey, I think it's a combination. Tires, tirepressure, a lot of weight and a bit of driving technique. Ørjan, the LR4 owner, had not drivien it to much in deep snow like this before and was learning. I think with some other tires, wider and more rubber, and some lower pressures it can really perform. Also, it's a bit more expencive so it get's driven more carefully. Thanks for watching and glad you liked it. More on the channel and more to come. 😀

    Watch closely the older ones. A classic demonstration of why 4x4's are actually 4x2, because if you lose traction on one front wheel and one rear wheel you go nowhere even with a centre diff lock. The Disco has traction control so shouldn't suffer this. This is the myth of people sold 4x4's as 4x2's. The car is only as good as the driver.

      PÅ hakka kan du senke litt men ville ikke ha gått for lavt. AT og MT dekk er beregnet for kjøre med lavere trykk, hvis man trenger det. Men og så der varierer det avhenging av dekk og produsent. Litt samme tilstand her, kjører på asfalt til og fra jobb hver dag. Kjøpte derfor Hakka LT2 som er litt hardere og som gir bedre bremseffekt på tunge biler. D4 kom seg jo opp til slutt. Står ikke på hva den kan men mer at det er større verdier man kjører rundt med. :) Blir mer D4 i del 2. ;)

      In deeper snow I think the increased tyre footprint/spread the load would be beneficial, but with less snow, a taller/narrower tyre will cut through to the solid ground underneath. In iceland and elsewhere, they run with very low pressures on snow, but these tend to be big flotation tyres. Only my opinion. Love your videos by the way. @@LandRoverDrive

      @@StillEar Thank you for you insight. I do agree with what you are saying. In this video though the ground was partly frosen and covered with ice and icy gravel and rocks so airing down was the right option. But as you say, it all depends on the conditions at hand. 😀👍 Im thinking of going with some wider winter studded tires, to see if i can get enough footprint to get it to float enough. Saw the artic trucks were running 44" winter studded tires from Nokian. Got me inspired, but not running 44s. But as we are overlanders first, we mostly drive on-road and on icy roads, so studded tires is the best option.
