- Ranting.. not sure if I mentioned it but the guy who manipulated the Van Gogh pikas created 200 fake accounts… just to clear card market and wasted peoples time… the length some people will go to for a bag… smh

its easier to buy singles even at higher prices than open... even if magikarp was 200 ... u cud open 1000s of packs and nothing ... even sword and shield, not that pull rate are bad but with so many cards odds are insane ...just opened some paldean fates , havent opened packs in awhile and now i remember why.

If youre buying a new Nidoking, dont go for old certs, buy the card, not the grade. The newer certs tend to be more accurate, but not always.
Grading needs a big overhaul, theres fraud with the employees swapping cards, people that simply arent careful or care. The premiums they charge for higher value cards is insanely unfair, considering the market prices are manipulated in general.
Even after all that gels and pastes that fill in the surface of the cards go undetected, and years down the road when a grading company finally solves a way to detect it, a bunch of tens will be questioned if they have been altered by surface fillers.
I used to want a Van Gogh Pikachu.
But after seeing the insane deplorable things people did to get them I no longer do all the terrible things done to obtain them.

@@orionsires Yeah it’s just me though like I don’t have any grudge against people who have them it’s just everytime I look at that card instead of being like “Wow that’s awesome” I’m like “Wow it’s a shame what some people did for one of these.”

I have a substantial single’s PC and this situation with your nidoking is EXACTLY why I have never submitted my cards to PSA and I have keeper them RAW. I’m sure I’m losing out on tens of thousands of dollars in value but the RISK is to great for me to chance. Sorry about your card bro 😢
You’re not missing out on anything as long as you enjoy the cards and take care of them. Grading is still great for protection and market value and just because I had a crappy experience this one time doesn’t mean you will. I’ll
probably grade again soon with modern but just feeling regretful for cracking this card in the first place. 😔
Old PSA certs rarely grade the same or higher.
Check the holo pattern to make sure its the same nidoking you submitted.
Also it wouldnt surprise me if they remove all the sleeves and stack your submission with other cards.
It’s the same one fam, nothing too shady but definitely surface scratches that weren’t there.. sigh
The Magikarp has a gem rate of 22%. Which is 3x worse than sword and shield’s average. Giratina had a mediocre gem rate and it’s still at 45%. The raichu and tyranitary are even worse, with only 150 raichu existing in a 10 out of 1050 submissions and tyranitar has 200 out of a couple thousand. 18% for raichu and 16% gem rates for tyranitar
WOW those are some extremely low gem rates but do you think that’s possibly intentional or just relative maybe to all the submissions flooding in? That percentage can be controlled potentially as it’s still too early to tell. Thanks for the information 😎🙏🏼

@@orionsires I honestly just think it’s garbage quality control. I’ve opened a ton of scarlet violet personally and the odds I’ve personally found PSA 10 candidate cards vs clean ones is crazy rare. I’m not sure what’s happened but something flipped when the silver borders came in because ever since SV started, the gem rates are much lower than SWSH. idk if they have a tough time with new textures, the new materials, etc but what’s clear is that quality control has managed to take ANOTHER dip. what’s sad is gem rates might climb a little bit, but magikarp for example already has nearly 3000 graded with that 22.2% gem rate. 3k is enough of a sample size imo to show These cards will be permanently low. What I AM hoping for however is pure volume outweighing the gem rates, ideally causing the prices to drop at least a little bit bc 650$ is just insane for a one year old card that’s not even a secret rare

I’ve had PSA 10 contenders come back to me as PSA 6-8 with scuffs that weren’t there when I sent them in. Probably 5x out of 1000, PSA acknowledged damaging one of my cards that got a 5 and they said it was estimated at an 8 before damage and comped me for an 8 but it was a 10 and the other cards with it got 10s. That didn’t feel good, but it wasn’t a Crystal, either. Feels bad to say here PSA let me pay you for the privilege of damaging my cards. Their business is still booming so they don’t have to adjust and their ability to churn volume remains their priority. It is the cost of doing business with them and while they’ve helped my margins more than hurt them, I have a vintage sub cued up for CGC that I don’t trust PSA to give me the 10s those cards deserve. I just know they’ll have rando 8s in there I won’t agree with, like they want me to keep cracking and paying them to regrade or something. That’s where I’m a little conspiracy about it, esp with vintage. Sorry man, you earned a small battle scar on your Poke journey but we ALL have them brother, it just proves we are here.

What is annoying is it's not the only card , the magikarp , the mew and Charizard from PALDEAN fates ,the tyranitar all PSA 10s all brought out on eBay UK , by one seller or a seller with multiple accounts all in one week ,cant even find any psa 10s of any of these on the UK eBay market it's disgusting that people with big pockets are ruining it for everyone

The 10 population is super low for those cards though, they're just ridiculously hard to grade

I do sympathise with your Crystal Nidoking situation. It's fucked up that a grading company can damage such an expensive thing and not acknowledge their mistake, while also significantly affecting the value of your card. I'd be pissed and think 99% of people would be in your shoes. My only thought is - couldn't you have recased the card? To keep the same grade, and just asked them to remove the dirt in the process.
A friend of mine said they would “maybe do that” I probably should have done that to start with but no one really gave me the best answer on that. I figure that’s entirely on me though I should have asked 😔
@@orionsires I think it's a service they do offer. Although it's painful, I think this is one situation you just have the 'charge to the game' and you'll be more experienced next time around. Everyone eventually encounters shitty stuff like this when you've been doing something long enough. Keep your head up bro, you're one of the good ones.

The grouping of Pokémon that’s tyranitar, rhydon, nidoking, Aggron, etc I’ve heard called “kaiju”-esque and that’s for sure! I’m a huge tyranitar fan. Best pokemon out there imo ✌️
Yes like Kaiju ! They made more pokemon like that in Gen 3 because they wanted pokemon to be “cooler” interestingly enough sugimori knew pokemon needed more of that 😎🙏🏼

Nah once it’s cracked out of the case PSA will no longer honor the grade.

Like Cozi says… should have just asked for them to re case it and wipe the dirt off… I will try to do that in the future but in the future I’m just going to steer clear of cards with dirt on them to begin with (sigh ) I deserved this.. live and learn man… feel like such an idiot

You’d be surprised some people take it really hard when unable to get a basic card like that… it’s honestly sad and I’m lucky I got them from the site. I honestly couldn’t have done it without people messaging me immediately 🤷🏻♀️

You were definitely done dirty dog🤨 I've voiced my opinion of PSA and CGC (for comics). I also understand, you being an investor and seller, PSA is a part of your world. I'm sorry you got screwed, and I hope you learn from this experience that when you dance with the devil, you might get burned. Both of my card dealers have been telling me, for years, what they have and continue to go through. Yet the customers want slabs, so they continue to do the dance. They tend to have better results with bulk submissions. It's their single or small subs that have a higher rate of coming back damaged with low grades and no explanation, and no accountability. So try 20+ if you can. I buy raw from my 2 shops because they are excellent at verifying authenticity and condition, and they've taught me how to do the same. So when collectors/nonsellers say they use PSA to authenticate, I just look at 'em like...Bruh!😒

I am starting to think people woke up to how much you lose when opening the packs. So now, people are just buying and storing sealed and buying the singles they want.
It’s just more cost effective but people are definitely still opening it’s just not easy on the wallet 😂

I'm not going to lie, I think the Magikarp illustration rare from Paldea Evolved is a beautiful card. I got it in a PSA 10 a while ago. I bought the Japanese Art Rare version because I prefer Japanese cards over English cards. IMHO the Japanese text looks better with the art.
The Japanese Magikarp is just as beautiful as the English Magikarp, even more so if you dig Japanese text like I do. That said, the price difference between a Japanese PSA 10 and an English PSA 10 is nuts. English is $600+ while the Japanese is $50 to $60. There is no logical explanation for this other than market manipulation.
Well the logic is that Japanese grades much easier because they have better quality overall. But your argument is sound in Japanese text looking way better and going very well with that card specifically I love Japanese honestly just stuck with English because it’s what I’ve always collected 😎
Its one thing to screw you for the grade, the damage is totally inexcusable.

This will all be balanced when it becomes too high and people buy more sealed and open themselves. And then sealed will go up

@orionsires lol. Sorry, I was clear as mud. I was referencing your talk about the prices of alt arts skyrocketing. I wondering if the prices get too high if you will see a tremendous purchase of sealed to open. It might start being better financially to buy a full case rather than a magikarp.
I think people forget that we've been down this road many of times with Hidden Fates had drama with low availability and scalping, Special Delivery Charizard and Special Delivery Pikachu promos during the pandemic.. This Van Gogh Pikachu was just icing on the cake with outcry to a buchured release. It was very poorly distributed. I would have preferred a lottery like system to before. At least that seemed more fair than just bots buying them up. Pokémon collectors have more emotion tied to our cardboard. I'd argue and that makes us both better and worse than other tcgs. 😅
Absolutely, great points! They should have done it in a lottery system and seeing the mob going after that card had to have impacted the value instantaneously on top of the fact it was already highly anticipated. Low point in the hobby for sure. Crazy thing is it was a 1000$ card at one point 😂

Someone with less integrity would hit it with the kurts and fix all those scratches and get the 9 back. I personally grade mostly modern so I dont need to use it, but ive seen it work wonders. I know someone who upgraded a bgs 7 base set zard to a bgs 9. This happens behind closed doors alot more than people think on vintage.

In 2022 I bought 6 XY Evolutions holo charizards in BGS or CGC 9.5. Paid around $700 for them. I cracked them all out and submitted them all to psa 3 times. They always came back as 8s and 9s. They eventually even came back in worse condition. Ended up for a final grade to try to submit them all to BGS again. I did not get a single 9.5. All were 8s and 8.5 and a 9.

It's like when rainbow charizard and shiny charizard Vmax 1st released people got destroyed pay over 1k for the card U think people would look back at history but nope everything just seems destiny to repeat itself in Pokémon it's crazy

Where is the video of you cracking that nidoking out of the case? I could have sworn that scratch is right where your flathead slipped. Unfortunate but I don’t think it’s PSA at fault. Tried looking but couldn’t find the video where you cracked it out of the slab.

Doesn't PSA offer a reslabbing service and a service that lets you question the current grade of the card without having to crack it? I feel like these options are best for high value cards that you really can't afford to have damaged.
PSA definitely damages cards. My friend got thousands back from PSA due to them damaging a large sub. I think it is worth it to you to reach out and get an insurance claim going.

Early SV sets are some of the hardest modern cards to grade. The Magikarp has a gem rate comparable to the Charizard GX Rainbow from Burning Shadows. Do I think that means it will continue going up forever? No. But I don’t think there can be a race to the bottom when the card is that hard to grade.
The only way early SV cards come down in price is if we get a reprint AND the quality is much better.
Source: I’ve made a niche grading low gem rate promos and set cards since early SwSh era. I regularly sell $1 for over $150 when the gem rate is low enough. I have to assume the Magikarp is just popular enough that people are rushing to buy it.

i have several 10s i wont even send out, ive wanted to i know the moondog is a 10, sylveon vmax alt i have is going to beckett for a black label if i ever do, charizaed vmax shining fates, several swsh chases i need to grade for 10s just have no idea when ill get into grading. i will grade for myself before i buy up a bunch of slabs to invest in. try to buy what i like no matter what
Totally understand that, but some cards especially older ones are super hard to find grade worthy copies but for modern totally makes sense to grade yourself 😎
Nobody is controlling the population of 9s, all that happened is a minimum wage employee didn't care as much as you do. Grading imo is only worth it when you're buying one already graded but still buying the card, getting cards graded is simply a gamble and one I'm unwilling to take.
Probably, it’s not that I don’t think it’s useful or could be fun to grade cards but this experience wasn’t one of them 🤷🏻♀️
@@orionsires If you are buying for your collection I think raw is fine personally. I'm confident in my ability to identify flaws and give it a subjective grade myself. If you're buying purely for its sell on value then it unfortunately is worth the risk, MAYBE.
my tin foil hat says re-packers are buying up the full arts and cards to repack. They going heavy in sports and building a battery for pokemon. So V Stars maybe $5 sounds reasonable.
There’s always going to be scammers this is why I should probably never sell pack arts from all my openings… should just toss them in the trash so stuff like that doesn’t happen.. but in general if people need those cards it’s likely for binder sets 🤷🏻♀️
Just want to share a lil story , I stopped collecting in 2003 , I got rid of all my cards not thinking how much they would be worth one day , 2023 came and I saw how I could of at least had 100k if I didn't basically give my cards out or treat them like worthless toys 😅
I started collecting again because a little piece of me was hurting about what I could have had and I had an urge to chase what I once lost , anyway my first 2 booster boxes was obsidian flames and I pulled the zard special illustration in the first box 😮 i took that as a sign that this was for me 😂 even though I realised after the zard is very easy to pull In such a small set I still looked at it as fate 😂 now I'm 110% addicted to Pokémon again all because of that zard ...thought I'd just share that 😂

I also lucked out pulling that zard and have learned the pull rate for that card is 1/216 packs!! Crazy and I didn’t even like it that much 😂
@@orionsires appreciate the love bro , it's a strange one for me , the obsidian flames art was the first zard we have had of its kind , a special illustration, I'm 60/40 because I'm not used to that kind of art on zard but also because zard is the OG KiNG 👑 so I'm slightly in favour then disfavour of it , but I do think it's got a "gold mine" tag on it for the near distant future , respect bro !

It was definitely psa the more I think about it the angrier I get… I’m probably just screwed and have to take it as a learning lesson at best.. feel pretty stupid but hey I’m human… it’s just a card.. I have to be grateful for other things in my life like my health and family.. one card shouldn’t make me so upset but it does 😂
I would have just sent it for reslab and hope they remove the thingy. I have regraded a lot but never a PSA 9 vintage to attempt a 10 for this particular reason of risking an 8

Normally, I enjoy the rants, but bro you are contradicting yourself on the rant. You don't understand the hype over the magikarp, but you bought into sealed product of the same set. People like you who are hoarding the sealed product are the very reason the chase cards are sky rocketing. Supply and demand. People don't want to open the product, they just want to hold it long term (which isnt a bad idea). Therefore, the few that actually are open and are PSA 10's naturally will jump in price. And as for the Van Gogh Pika, regardless if people loss money, at the end of the day its still a unique looking card that people wouldnt mind having as part of their PC. I get it you're a vintage collector, but you're starting to sound like a boomer about the BETTER looking modern arts. Its a plague to the hobby. Honestly some channels are way worse this ones good cause most of the time yes just doing PC videos. Danny phantom drives me insane every video “whats going on with this set?!?!” Then ppl immediately go and buy 10 copies of certain cards and pump the price up.

Hey it’s totally fine to have your own opinion regardless what others think, some are saying the gem rate is the reason the Karp has gone up, others saying SV QC control is why psa 10’s have skyrocketed.. but I don’t think my 3 cases of paldea is affecting the price at all. Even if I had 10 cases I doubt it makes a difference there was SO much printed… more printed than ever so there’s no way hoarding these modern sets affects that price IMO. You’re right though about one thing I am a boomer for certain alts and most of them I would never pay a premium for just my preference. I appreciate you wording this response the way you did. It’s all about discussions and IMO you’re adding to the discussion and that’s the whole point of making videos.😎
