the perfect ending 😭🥹. wille choosing himself and because of that he got his boyfriend. wille forgiving august was so satisfying too because it was not about august, it was not a redemption arc either. it was him wanting to let go in order to grow and heal. august got everything he always apparently wanted except for the thing he wanted most this season which was sara and that was his punishment for all the shit he did. sara putting herself first, felice having her friend (🏳️🌈) back. amazing ending to a heartbreaking but beautiful story

Let's just say I cried at episode 6 more then the whole show put toghter for every single emotion humanly possible. And once I got done watching I screamed PERFECT ENDING TO A PERFECT SHOW. Also what a rollercoster this whole show had been and most important of all A MASTERPIECE

Niall they said in an interview that the entire lake scene was improvised by Edvin and Omar. NO dialogue was written for the scene, they just did it. They are so connected to and love their characters so much it makes me so emotional.
The comparison in episode 6 of how Felice takes care of Wille after his split with Simon with Felice's friends version after her split with Sara - Felice never bad mouths Simon, she validates Wille's feelings, lets him wallow with her for a bit and then tries to cheer him up in an appropriate way, by gently pushing him to do something fun. Forever friend behavior.

So I know you said that August got what he wanted with becoming the heir to the throne, but as Wille is running away, you see him kind of do an "oh fuck this is my life now" look and that is his punishment that he should've gotten in seasons one and two. So yes, I got what he wanted only to realize he doesn't actually want that.
Just like his younger version’s letter to his older self. Though I will say, I think August will step up and hopefully he will end up caring about more than just partying and messing about. Plus, as much of a shit as he is, he really is better at all the shmoozing lol like at Wille’s bday, he seemed to genuinely enjoy it with all the kids and people and poor Wille was just uncomfortable the whole time.
Felice popping out of the car at the end there really got me too! The four of them choosing each other and choosing happiness 😭

I felt the exact same way, I never get the ending I want when shows end but Young Royals gave it to us…the PERFECT ending. It couldn’t have been any better. I bawled my eyes out for a good 15 minutes when it was done. Happy tears 😭

I was so proud of Felice for telling the truth to the board tbh. Love her and her progression so much, even if it’s a little overshadowed by all the drama haha
Perfect ending. Wille has hated being a Prince since s1 and wanted a normal life he eve wanted to abdicate in s2, it's hard letting go of something you grew up with and when theres so much pressure and responsibility.. he needed to come terms and accept that he doesn't want that life and always have..
This show was amazingly written. And the actors' abilities to bring all their characters to life will forever astound me. For instance, I 100% believe Wille when he says Simon is the love of his life. He becomes perfectly content whenever he looks at him.
I really love a) that all characters in this show are allowed to make mistakes without our being expected to lose all sympathy for them, and that by the end of the show that's explicitly part of the message, and b) in particular the difference in the way Wille and Simon make mistakes, and how that frames the lives they had. Wille's are almost always due to over-thinking things, reflecting a life of structure. Simon's are almost always due to acting without thinking, a spirit of living in the moment. Either approach to extremes is shown to be not good, but the absence of the other is demonstrably not good either. Really nice stuff. And I really love that the ending fits so well, and so many little side plots were able to be tidied up during that last episode. The mark of a show that runs as long as it was always meant to. An excellent show and an excellent finale.

i loovee how they managed to tie all the character stories basically, not all shows can do that and just leave you wondering:D their stories are not over yet of course, but the ending of the show is so hopeful and has good messages like you said, about communication and reflecting on yourself and forgiveness, and all that.. i loved the finale sm:) ❤ i agree with all your points alsoo excited for any new things that you choose to react to since this has ended:D! your reactions create such a pleasant atmosphere (here in my room:D) and cheer me up:)

The moment when they switched in the song during the graduation from the "traditional" school song to Simon's version had me in tears. Damn, I never saw that one coming. But I totally loved the ending, with Wille chosing himself and not his title.

I genuinely believe that August's apology was honest, despite of that it's obvious that that kind of forgiveness is not that simple. His reaction when he saw Wilhelm running away was priceless, he realized that now he is trapped in monarchy while now Wilhelm is free, for me was a perfect ending. Great reaction (:
Ngl, when I first watched this I legit balled my eyes out for like 20 minutes strait!
Perfection. I think I cried almost continuously from when Wille left the car to when they all drove off. I didn't even like this show at first -- too many unsympathetic characters -- but it was all so freaking worth it. The only other final scene that had me this emotional is the one from _Six Feet Under,_ and that was quite a different beast.
Notice the ONLY time Wille is smiling when he looks at the camera is the end of the final episode. Perfect ending.
I love that we get three seasons of angst and heartbreak and the show tops it off with a perfect romcom ending. It’s what Wille and Simon deserve 🤍💜

also i think the students were more sad that they wouldn’t be going to school with each other anymore because it’s a boarding school. they all live in different areas of the country or even other countries so if the school shuts down they’d all have to go back home & not go to school with each other

@@niallnochill Tbh, I think he was just projecting because it was easier to project his sudden feelings about Erik onto Simon than it would be to actually face them head on and deal with the fact that his brother wasn’t as perfect as everyone pretended he was. Then, when it comes to him getting offended at Simon indirectly comparing Erik to Sara, I think he just, once again, didn’t want to confront the fact that his brother wasn’t as perfect as he’d thought.
Also, I feel the need to make this very clear: I’m not excusing Wilhelm’s behaviour. I understand why he acts the way he does, but that doesn’t mean I think everything he does is right. His mental health is not his fault, but it is his responsibility. (Truly though, someone get these boys a good therapist, it’d help them so much).

The thing that got me fired up was the rich kids taking the school's shutdown as the end of the world. Like, ya'll have money, your families have money, so they get to keep studying in another private school, work at their parents companies, take courses of something they like, etc, they have options unlike Simon and Sara or any other non-privilaged person. And they were acting as if phones don't exist to keep in touch with their friends.
When Simon told Wille that they should end things, i really believed that they weren't going to end up together. And as sad as that was, at that point it was understandable, bittersweet but understandable. I haven't seen that many series but this ending was perfect, so incredibly satisfying.

This last season i wasn't hating August, because they showed us that there was a reason for the way he is and the things he did. His character wasn't evil just because, there is an explanation to his behaviour.
I'm not excusing him, but i understood him.

I love most of the perspectives you have on the characters. Except August, i think what you don’t see is that the school meant everything to him, that’s why he was crying. The school was his escape when his dad killed himself… it’s where he became who he was. He honored that school over himself.

but yes, I agree!!! this was the PERFECT finale. I was the same as you, sad but understanding of them not ending up together because as much as it hurts me, it /would/ make sense. but the actual ending they got? amazing. and it's even more amazing because it doesn't feel forced at all, Wille has shown from the very beginning that being a royal, let alone the king, isn't something he wants. he wants a normal life, and now he chose that for himself. and for the first time, he looked into the camera /with a smile/. I'm so happy with this ending, and with this whole season - the best one, in my opinion.

I would really like to see you react to a Norwegian tv-show called Skam (pronounced like scum, but means shame). I think it’s probably the best teen-series I’ve ever seen. Each season focuses on a different character and a lot of queer reactors start with S3 and continue onto S4, but honestly I would recommend watching the series from the beginning!!

I loved the finale so much. I started crying the moment Wilhelm began running. The only way it could've been better is if we got an epilogue saying that the monarchy was dissolved, because A.) royalty whilst being in a democracy is stupid B.) It denies August the crown. I do wish Hillerska stayed closed. It was bad down to the grading policies. Maybe upon reopening, they'll add more non-wealthy students and/or different classes to make these kids be exposed to ordinary people/issues to hopefully help them be less elitist, racist, queerphobic, transphobic assholes. I don't hold hope for that, seeing as the school board is most likely made up of wealthy people and therefore not motivated to change the culture.

I think my only complaint, if you really want to call it a complaint, is that Sera and Felice didnt get together in the end. Like, I know that they heavily implied that both characters were straight, but the vibe they put off was so queer coded that it honestly felt like the beginning of a happy friends to lovers romance. I am ok with them not getting together in the end, because life is like that, but it would have been a cherry on the happy ending sundae if they did, you know?
I mean, it is also important to value the meaning of true friendship. Then being platonic soulmates is almost as beautiful or more than then being romantic because it is hardly represented in media with our shipping obsession.

Sort of get what you mean, but at the same time I do think it was best that they didn't. For one, they just made up after months of not even seeing each other, and for two, those moments were for Wille and Simon. Sure, we are glad that Felice and Sara were also there, but the main highlight and the central point of the ending was not about them.
Perhaps, if they do indeed do an extra movie a couple of years later (which I'd love as long as they can whip up a good enough story that doesn't feel like simply money-hungry seconds), they can be in a relationship then, or have the movie about their struggles of moving from a close friendship into a romantic relationship.
I don’t really think their relationship is romantic and I don’t like the idea that romantic relationships are the „goal“ or like the highest form of a relationship. But I could really see them being in a queerplatonic relationship and maybe living together. You can build your life together with someone you aren’t romantically interested in and have them be the most important person in your life
We desperately need more media about valuing friendships on the same level as romantic relationships. I think it's so sad that people only think a relationship is beautiful and profound if it's romantic, especially for characters at such young age. I thought it was beautiful to watch someone place a deep friendship over a romantic love.

Breaking up would have been sad but realistic. Wille will still need security protection for the rest of his life. The paparazzi will never leave him and Simon alone. Social media trolls will still go for the both of them - esp Simon "you stole our Crown Prince" etc etc. Look at how they treated Harry and Meghan.
This is what I thought. I happy sobbed at the ending. But abdicating would never be the end of it. He’d be free of being crown prince and eventually king but never truly free. And the main thing that got between them was the paps and social media. So it’s the happy non- realistic ending

In my head canon I actually think that there will be plenty of opportunity in the future for Sara and August to “reconnect” once they graduate, since she’s around because of Simon, who will be around because of Ville, who’s obviously still around because he’s family and a Prince even if he’s not the crown Prince. So I can totally imagine these four going to a school together whichever one it is, since they thought about moving anyway, and eventually, at a family party or something, august never quite getting over Sara and I can imagine that being like a whole other drama situation, but as he grows etc he starts seeing her also in some way idk exactly. But I can imagine it. Also. I want a storyline for Felice that isn’t just about her being an awesome friend. Not necessarily romantic but come on. What happened to the horse by the way? Didn’t August buy that horse? I’m confused about that. Sara tells her dad horses just get sold even if they’re abused but girl august bought the horse?? And also I can imagine Felice becoming a chef and having her own restaurant and stuff.
I didnt take August crying to be about the school closing. He had been supressing the damage that his intitiation did to him for so long, and the school being shut down, to August, could only mean 1 thing.
It told him that it was real, that it happened, and it was just as awful as he tried to convince himself it wasn't. It was the shattering of the defences he built around his trauma, and the hurt that he couldnt wall off anymore, and he had to sit at that table while everyone around him tried to reaffirm the notion that it was just harmless jokes, while simultaneously dealing with the realisation the he had been sexually abused, by the people closest to him. I mean, the initiation drove him to be perfect, in every way, so that he could never be a victim again, and is potentially the root of his eating disorder.
i have such a weird relationship to this finale because i just dont think its believable and its incredibly cheesy (i mean, this is tv, after all), but also....
i just think there would have been more to say, and been more progressive, if Wille and Simon were actually mature about it and realise that they are just not compatible. their socialization, way of life, way of thinking are too different. even if Wille is not heir to the throne... he's still a prince. his mother is still the queen. he is still filthy rich. and Simon is still a commoner. and open to the same attacks whether Wille is next in line or not.
there might have been more to say with Wille being the future king as an openly gay man. rather than giving it up to August, who is sympathetic but still not a good person. just... making such a decision at 17, 18? for your first boyfriend. it just doesnt hit for me, i think....

I hated that Simon broke up with Wille after something so traumatic with Wille’s family and on his birthday. I respect his reasons, but he could have comforted Wille and done that later in a better conversation.

So in my opinion yes royalty sucks but if you pay attention Simon and Sara both where always selfish. Wilhelm was the one that always had to compromise and protect Simon the only thing Simon did for the relationship was get rid of his socials and that was only after his house got attacked. Still enjoyed the ending and seems Wilhelm is happier without royalty stuff but Simon always blamed or broke up with Wilhelm if he didn't do what he wanted.
Am I the only one that doesn't like the ending? I usually hate that all gay things are depressing, but I felt that Simon only thought about himself, and Wilhelm deserved someone better for him. So I liked the depressing ending way more than the "happy" ending we got.
I don’t think that’s the case. Simon tried to help Wille multiple times, even when he really shouldn’t have. Simon should have left Wille’s birthday party right when he felt uncomfortable, but he stayed for Wille. When he saw Wille throw all the birthday gifts on the ground, that’s when he realized that this isn’t what he wanted and broke up with him. I just think if Wille actually communicated instead of getting angry (which I know can be difficult, especially with all that he’s going through), Simon and him would of been a lot happier and wouldn’t of had to break up at all.
@Madl_ Wille had a mental breakdown. He didn't throw a tantrum he broke down mentally. That child has no one but Simon and Felice and at his lowest Simon left and that made me angry at Simon (which tbf it was his choice and he had every right to be selfish and think about himself first) I put the example of Heartstopper when Nick had a fight with his dad and brother and storm out and Charlie went to him because he knew he needed him because that's what you do for someone you love but because THEY don't communicate with each other things got worst because they both explode.
I agree with @Kirsun5 that they should've ended up not together because right now they need to work on themselves. Right now they don't work as a couple . Wille might even regretted abdicating, and he will blame Simon even if it's not his fault. They should have end up separate and maybe do an epilogue a few years later finding each other again as adults and trying again knowing who they are individually.

@@leroselapin I agree, Simon did leave Wille at his lowest, but I don’t think he should be blamed for doing so. Both Wille and Simon went through a lot, so Wille getting mad at Simon for things he should have just went to therapy for doesnt make Simon feel any better. All of this is new to Simon and it’s really overwhelming. That doesn’t take away from the fact that Wille is also going through a lot and really needed Simon, but it’s not like Simon hasn’t already tried communicating with him multiple times and all it does is lead to an argument. Wille destroyed Simon’s mental health and that was his breaking point, so yeah, maybe it was a bit selfish of him not to help Wille when he was having a really rough time, but that was what Simon needed to do unfortunately.
