@@ruiakami Yes he does it on purpose because Joyce doesn't really understand the gravity of the situation he is in and acts on her whims and wishes. Jake at some point started to take her seriously but then she makes a comeback with some bs enquiries when his life is in danger. That seemed to have flicked Jake's switch and ever since even if Jake tried to sympathize with her, her demands just ended up getting him annoyed. So was the chat. And unfortunately me too.
Also, yes. She does feel blank...like she lacks a certain level of understanding. Although the game devs are to blame for that.

Quite the scary game, the environment is really unsettling and the mechanics are very well made, so even as a viewer it's easy to get immersed due to the detail, I have never been jumpy even playing horror games or watching movies
The fact she starts appearing more and more becoming less and less of although monstruous in form, human in nature existence, and kind of becomes like an all consuming entity that spreads throughout the house like the other illusions is particularly horrifying, exactly as it seems he's reaching some way to combat her, her powers begin to be fully displayed as she gets more and more deranged, and it's not a beggining of second act thing, three quarters of the game are used to estabilish her buildup until she becomes a full on threat
