Lila Ramonda (Ramonda serbica) only grows in the Balkans and is known for its remarkable resilience. This plant has the unique ability to revive when watered, even from a fully dehydrated state. In our country it is considered a symbol for revival after 1/3 of the nation (60% of our male population) had died in WW1.

And the reasons for the limited - only the military and Milosevic’s media bastions - NATO attack are (among others): the genocide of Muslim boys and men in Srebrenica, mass killings of Croats in Vukovar and Albanians in Kosovo. Then, what happened in the WW1? The assassination of the Austrian Crown Prince on the order of Russians secret service who had fierce dispute with Austrians over the passage through Bosphore…. All these lives were lost due to nauseating and sick politics in Belgrade. And it’s really sad that nobody is thinks of making a song about the PM Zoran Djindjic who was killed by the same people who rule Serbia today. Why not him being the inspiration for the Ramonda flower? Why not speak of Serbian people suffering and repression today? We are watching hundreds of thousands people on the streets of Belgrade. They are trying to say something, right?!

  • @goranbogdanovic7391
    @goranbogdanovic7391 Před 3 měsíci +3

    1. Ramonda is a very rare purple flower that grows on Mount Rtanj in Serbia and is known as the “Phoenix flower”. It can survive in harsh environments and can “revive” itself after dehydrating with only a drop of water. It was used as a symbol of the Serbian people in WW1 during which Serbia lost 1/4 of its population.
    2. There are several lines in the lyrics that reference the famous exodus of the Serbian people (along with The king and army) who travelled by foot over Montenegrin and Albanian mountains to Greece in harsh winter of 1915. Around 240.000 people died on the journey and were buried at sea in a Greek Island in what is known as “The Blue Tomb”. The line “there, under the water, everything is dead silent” is a reference to that. Furthermore, another line states “there’s nobody left to guide me towards the morning star” again symbolizing the life in them fading as well as the fading hope of the Serbian people and utter desperation that we would perish in the war. Then you have “The world burns, every flower dies, where have the purple Ramondas vanished” = where have all the Serbs gone? The song ends with “A single purple Ramonda rises from the ashes” symbolizing hope and just like the Ramonda flower resurrects, so do the Serbian people.

But it’s also about hope, peace and endurance for the whole humanity. Especially in todays world, we always need that seed of hope!

Ramonda is the flower which symbolises the end of WW1, and Teya is saying "Where have all Ramondas gone" as once did Marlene Dietrich.

The song 🎵 & flower 🌸🌸🌸 metaphorically describes suffering of Serbian nation.
They suffered 5 centuries under Turkish occupation and managed to survive and save their identity.
In WW1 1/3 of the population and 60% of male population was murdered by Bulgarian, German and Austrian army...and they didn't announce a capitulation but the nation, led by the king went in an exile via hostile Albanian mountains. After all the suffering between 1914-1918, they returned back victorious and liberated all southern Slavic nations (Serbs, Croats, Slovenians, Macedonians) and created a South Slavic land (Yugoslavia).
Another genocide happened during WW2, more than 1 million Serbian people were brutally murdered in genocide, especially in the Jasenovac concentration camp 😪😪😪
Ramonda flower 🌸🌸🌸 symbolically describes Serbian nation ... they love freedom and will resist any Hegemon

I scream but it is not heard
Behind the mountains, a white glow
I don't see the end in sight
This is the way for the wounded
And there is no one to guide me
Towards the light of Danica star (Northern star)
    Everything burns, everything burns;
    Every flower, every flower
Where did the Lila Ramondas go?
And there is no one to guide me
Because the stars are all asleep
    Not even prayers help
Where did the Lila Ramondas go?
    ......
    It rises from the ashes
    One lilac ramonda"
During WWI, the complete Serbian army was forced to retreat from Serbia, via Albania to Greece, in what was one of the most horrific withdraw in known history, where many died from hunger, illnes and attacks ftom the Albanian gangs. Later. From the coast of Albania, allied ships were transported them to Greece. Some ships were attacked by Germans and a lot of Serbian solders died under the watter.
In the Greek island Corfu, Serbian army recovered, but still thousands of them died from exhaustion and illnes. When there were no more empty land to bury the dead on Corfu, they were buried in the sea, which is known in Greece and Serbia as the Blue tomb
When recovered, Serbian army broke Thessaloniki front line, moving very fast thus leaving allied troops far, far behind while destroying Germans and liberating Serbia.
In WWI, Serbia lost almost 1/3 of its population, and 60% of male population
Ramonda Serbica and Natalia Ramonda are the flower of lilac (purple) color, that can dry out completely when conditions are bad, and it can resurrect again after a long time with just a few drops of a watter. It is also called the Phoenix flower
So I hope that I can help you understand how heavy this song is, but still full of hope
The terrible situation in which the Serbs were, but even though it seems that the lilac Ramonda have disappeared (for Serbs, that flower is a symbol of faith in liberation), still one rises from the ashes (faith in the beginning of liberation).
On Serbia's liberation day, people are wearing the Ramonda symbol on their dresses.
In the official music video for this song, at the very beginning there is a message in English: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it" or in the translation "And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it" which is the text from the Gospel according to John 1:5. It further reinforces the message of the song and indicates the artist's attitude.

For those who (perhaps) don't know, the ramonda is our endemic flower species (Ramonda Serbica) and a symbol of the suffering of the Serbs in World War I against Austria-Hungary, i.e. Armistice Day (November 11, 1918) and the final victory. Ramonda is a symbol of Serbia, victory, rebirth and eternity. It is also called the phoenix flower, because it is specific in that it can dry up, and only one drop of water is enough to revive it completely. It was discovered by Josif Pancic in 1874, on Mount Rtanj, near Sokobanja. The song of Teye Dora has strong symbolism, good music with traditional (Byzantine and Serbian) elements, arrangement and text, and in the text I especially like the (Serbian) motifs of the star Danica and Ramonda, as well as the beginning, whose rhythmicity and parallelism are very they remind us of our folk (oral) literature. Not to mention her voice. PS. Armistice Day is a non-working day in Serbia, and it is also celebrated in Great Britain, Belgium, New Zealand and France, while it is "Remembrance Day" in the countries of the British Commonwealth, and "Veterans Day" in the USA.

I have no, I have no, I have no
I have no peace or sleep
the night won't let the day come
oh it's so hard for the alone ones
    Everything's quiet like under water
    I'm screaming but I can't be heard
Behind the hills there's a white glow
There's no glimpse of the end of this for me
this is the road for the wounded ones
And there's no one there to guide me
    to the bright star Danica*
The world is on fire, every flower is on fire
where have all the lilac Ramondas disappeared?
    Chorus:
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
And there's no one there to guide me
because all the stars are asleep
    Prayers are not helping either
where have all the lilac Ramondas disappeared?
    Chorus:
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    Lilac Ramonda
    One lilac Ramonda
    is rising from the ashes

I imagine her , lost, alone, after a difficult battle ( during or after the war) searching for her loved ones ,,, lilac ramonda could be symbol for hope... ..a flower that only needs a drop of water to rise and bloom...she needs hope now, to be like a flower that will rise from the ashes... I think this could be an anti-war song ( the flower is considered a symbol of the struggle and victory of Serbia in the First World War, with the largest number of victims in relation to the number of inhabitants)
I can hear the silent scream to find strength in her broken being and rise above herself..like lila Ramonda

Pesma nije o ratu.

Ramonda is a rare pink flower that grows in a certain region in Serbia and some other regions in the Balkans. It is a symbol of resilience.
