Your correct Bill Bailey invented it, he was a tap dancer. Although Jeffrey Daniels did not teach Michael Jackson everything he did teach him the moonwalk. That is a FACT that even MJ himself recognized publicly.
Amen Applebaum - Jeffrey will be 53 this year! He's further proving that black don't crack and that age is JUST a number! Go Jeffrey - he's such an inspiration to everyone!
I agree, there were many local kids back in the day I call unsung heroes who never made it to TV but they were badd..... and popping died out around 1978. Kids from different schools and neighborhoods would challenge each other and that was the highlight of the day. You would find large circles of people anywhere and think there was a fight going on, when it was in fact pop lockers going at it, and it was a sight to see. There should be a movie made about this true african american art form.
i notice there are many dancers with a lot of technique and acrobatics...MJ had fewer of those...but he was so full of expression, grace...he made others look like string puppets.
That makes a lot of sense miming. Michael Jackson was also into miming, which is all about illusion, in this case, the dancer being pulled backwards while attempting to walk forward
the thing is important is that is perfection of something like michael jordan didnt invented fadeaway but he fucking perfected it like no one will ever do again, michael jackson did same in dance and also singing... :)
Today, the age old dispute doesn't matter: the King is Dead; Long live the King! For the record, Jeffrey deeply admired MJ, as we all do: "Shiny And Sparkly And Splendidly Bright Here One Day Gone One Night....gone too soon"
Well Jeff taught it to MJ and he took it to whole new level. It became popular after MJ used it partly because Mj does a full glide while snapping his legs full motion. Jeff's version is a little more constrictive. Even when I moonwalk, however much I try, I can only do it like Jeff does it.
This is great , thanks so much for putting this up. Pretty informative and fun to watch! peace to all! VOTE NO ON 98, YES ON 99 SAN FRANCISCO JUNE 3RD, SPREAD THE WORD!
Also the attention here was much more in the UK than in America , because remember no one had seen Popin Pete and the booga loos ? Casper or Cooley. It does seem naf to not mention the others who played a big part in these moves especially Casper the best of the lot in my opinion. He's in Beat it ,Bad Etc Pete he was the don ( we are talking the pioneer's of the everything!
@xabun You probably are. I am blown away any time I watch him dance and only more amazed that he worked with MJ. Of course, everyone has their own opinion, though.
Electric boogaloos have performed moonwalk in soul train in 1980. SO why does he says that he performed it for the first time on tv in 1982 (except 1955 bill baleigh)?
Michael doesn't invent the "Moonwalk" (it's not really), but Michaels "Moonwalk" was the best looking ever!Michael had it's own way of moving, that's why his "Moonwalk" look's better than Daniels ever will! And, he was very thin, his clothes always fit to the particular dance! Many people can do the Moonwalk, bit it doesn't look so good as Michaels!
I KNOW MICHAEL LEARNED THE MOONWALK FROM JEFFREY DANIEL BUT HE DID IT HIS OWN WAY AND IT IS THE BEST WAY! HE IS NOT FOR NOTHING THE KING OF POP. HE GOT'S THE BEST MOONWALK EVER!
@sanpandy Did you take mj out of the tags because he didnt invent the moonwalk? Thats not the purpose of tags. The tags are simply to make it easier to find your video in relative searches. Id put it back if that is indeed the case.
@anthos818 :Was it ever there? I don't think so? In any case MJ fans (and I am an MJ fan) make it into a MJ v s JD contest, which it isn't. It gets soooo tiring!
From Cauchy77: Concerning the moonwalk, Jeffrey didnt invent it. There where Jazzdancer before who did that move, and thats a fact. Michael absorbed everything he saw about dancing, its not that Jeffrey taught Michael Jackson how to dance. Thats nonsense. Michael is a natural talent. He is the greatest of ´em all because really no one could express the dance better, Michael has that rare rhythm, he feels it and he is enslaved to it. He lives the rhythm.
People are focused on one move out of Michaels gazillion moves. I dont believe Michael ever said he invented the moonwalk. As a matter of fact in an interview with Oprah...Michael said he learned how to do it from some guys that were doin it in the alley. Look at all his other moves...Sorry to say but none of these modern cats can compare.
Dang LudeandLude...I mean if U watch'd this, they did say Cab Calloway originate, or was the first to do the move amongst a large audience...Jeffrey jus' pioneer'd it during the "break" or "breakdance" movement (which U can't deny James Brown put into motion)! 'N PLEASE...Michael watch'd a lot of people dance 'n took it 'n put it his own flava on it!!! Tha dude used idolize James Brown...ACTUAL FACT, so please get Michael's nuts outta ur mouf!!! FOR REALZ...
resortes was a Mexican actor dancer and comediant MJ is obviously"better"than resortes but there's a little detail.. resortes discover and was the creator of the moonwalk he's the CREATOR mj just make it a little more perfect that's it! but don't miss the point.. mj is not the creator of his famous "Moonwalk" &he's not the one and only who can do that because if he was the"Creator"surely he would have the copyright and if someone did the moonwalk then he charged each time someone did
am i the only one thinking JD couldnt dance at all? i mean maybe he got the moves technically correct .. but they look awful and totally boring on him .. he has no soul while dancing ... something Michael Jackson even as a little kid already had ...
This guy is a legend, hail to the Shalamar
He has such a lovely speaking voice.
Your correct Bill Bailey invented it, he was a tap dancer. Although Jeffrey Daniels did not teach Michael Jackson everything he did teach him the moonwalk. That is a FACT that even MJ himself recognized publicly.
I have had the chance to see this man live and has such a warm spirit. Big up Jeff da real deal.
he's still so cute:)
what a GREAT post. Mini history lesson too. Always good to go back to school...
Dance-Legend!!!
Amen Applebaum - Jeffrey will be 53 this year! He's further proving that black don't crack and that age is JUST a number! Go Jeffrey - he's such an inspiration to everyone!
Bill Bailey the tap dancer developed the moonwalk in 1955!
Good interview. Well worth watching.
I love Jeffrey to tha fullest!! So, please stop hatin on him;)

i think jefferey Daniels had one of the more fluent moonwalkers then.

I want to marry this man;)Love you Jeffrey ;)!
I love this video so much :)
Today, the age old dispute doesn't matter: the King is Dead; Long live the King!
For the record, Jeffrey deeply admired MJ, as we all do:
"Shiny And Sparkly
And Splendidly Bright
Here One Day
Gone One Night....gone too soon"

Yes. That's why she didn't appear on TOTP to perform 'A Night To Remember'.
@xabun You probably are. I am blown away any time I watch him dance and only more amazed that he worked with MJ. Of course, everyone has their own opinion, though.
Boody poping is a move, electro boogie is the dance and moon walking was all over NY with the b boys movement
Thanks for posting this! You should put terms like "moonwalk" and/or "michael jackson" in the tags, so that more people will find it on CZcams.
Wow
Its the backslide , not the moonwalk LOL.
He didn't invent it. Seen people doing it before in the 30s. But he did do it before Micheal.
Electric boogaloos have performed moonwalk in soul train in 1980.
SO why does he says that he performed it for the first time on tv in 1982 (except 1955 bill baleigh)?
i know Jeffrey Daniel. Hes been to my house. =)
Michael doesn't invent the "Moonwalk" (it's not really), but Michaels "Moonwalk" was the best looking ever!Michael had it's own way of moving, that's why his "Moonwalk" look's better than Daniels ever will! Michael best Moonwalk
muscles execute the action of the joints popping. that's why when i wave, i can hear my shoulder pop and sometimes my wrist. HITTING requires muscles.
I KNOW MICHAEL LEARNED THE MOONWALK FROM JEFFREY DANIEL BUT HE DID IT HIS OWN WAY AND IT IS THE BEST WAY! HE IS NOT FOR NOTHING THE KING OF POP. HE GOT'S THE BEST MOONWALK EVER!
They said Turbo taught Michael but IDK anymore
on second thoughts..maybe not Michael jackson, but I'll add the moonwalking, body popping tags. Thanks for the suggestion
Mj is the best =)

It was a little over a year ago!
dude people were doing the backslide way back in the early 50s before jeff or mike was even born
what is that move called beginning at 2:18
nani should celebrate scoring goal doing the moonwalk:)
@67looby really cab calloway was doing it in the 30s
Lol Damn!
Jeffrey looks like Dave Chappelle when he parodied Prince or something

way wrong about bboying/breakin...... but popping wise he's good
Was Jody Watley pregnant in 1982?
this whole thing is so subjective.. it's like they don't even wanna give any credit to MJ for actually popularizing it..
resortes was a Mexican actor dancer and comediant MJ is obviously"better"than resortes but there's a little detail.. resortes discover and was the creator of the moonwalk he's the CREATOR mj just make it a little more perfect that's it! but don't miss the point.. mj is not the creator of his famous "Moonwalk" &he's not the one and only who can do that because if he was the"Creator"surely he would have the copyright and if someone did the moonwalk then he charged each time someone did
im white and can do it..just need some slick bottom dress shoes and practice !
