Wow Terrific. I saw the Pretenders live in a small theater in Vancouver about 1985. It was an amazing show. Even better than I could of imagined. Chrissie has so much talent that she gives breathtaking performances. She has me in awe as I'm loving the experience of listening to her. It's a thrill.
I love the drum solo and intro in this version- not to mention, the bass guitar as well. Honestly, all covers of this song are dang good it's hard to choose who's got the knock out version. I just love them all.
My dad loved the bass. He pointed this instrument out to me. Now as a soundboard tech in my church....I boost the bass 🎸 guitar. My dad died in 2015, but his influence lives on. Praise YAH.

The lyrics were considered to risque for that era and made selling the song frustrating for Taylor. He finally hit pay dirt with Merrilee Rush in 1968. She was the first to record the song and make it a hit. Not to decry the talent of Crissy Hinds, Juice Newton, Dusty Springfield, Bonny Tyler etc. but in my opinion no one has even come close to Merrilee as far as this song is concerned.
