- I shouldn’t have been allowed to join the Air Force. My life prior to joining the Air Force isn't a fun story for me tell, because I'm honestly a little embarrassed about my background. Before I joined the Air Force, I got into a little bit of trouble, which made my Air Force recruiters job almost impossible. But for some reason, he did all the extra work giving me an Air Force waiver and ensured I got into the military. I still don't know why or how he did it, but he did and I am so grateful I was given the chance to join the Air Force.
Because my recruiter went out of his way to help me join the Air Force, I have made it my passion and mission to help the next generation and all who listen with how to join the Air Force. So this isn't the most graceful story, but it is my honest take on why I joined the military / Air Force. Hopefully in my story, you can find your reasons for why you should join the Air Force.

Man, that was such a great story. Little did that recruiter know how many other people he helped by giving Jody the position to represent the Air Force and teach us youngins about the Air Force. Definitely was a bro for making sure you can join.
Mannn. You know what’s the most terrible things about it is. I never got to really thank him. When he first did the waiver, of course I thanked him, but I didn’t understand the extent of what he did.
Now that I know, I’ve tried contacting him, but I don’t know how to reach him. So he doesn’t even know how much he changed my life. It sucks.
@@Jodywithawhy Just know that he is probably living a great life. Most likely retired from the Air Force, probably has kids who have kids, with really nothing to worry about with life. It definitely changed your life, but it was just another thing for him.

You have changed your life now and you are a fighter now for those of us who have been in similar situations. This is an amazing story, MSgt! I went through the same thing. I grew up extremely poor and didn’t have much going for me. In 2012 I was 3 weeks from leaving for basic and went into some depression and was pulled over while intoxicated. Luckily I got a cop that was prior security forces and helped me. I am now almost 10 years in and just made TSgt. This video needs to be shown at high schools.

Kinda wish I had a recruiter like you. You have a lotta heart and it's great that you go the extra mile for your recruits. Some just immediately drop their recruits if it looks hazy.
There’s other recruiters out there like me. You just gotta find them. Sometimes it takes awhile but they’re out there.

I'll admit, I was not expecting this kind of backstory from you. However, it just makes me respect you even more than I already did. I've been having some trouble motivating myself to work out at home, I work in the curbside department at my local grocery store so I'm walking for 7.5-8 hours five out of seven days a week. And I know I need to start building my cardio, arms, and core strength now because it will help me not only in basic training but also to lose the last seven pounds that I've been struggling with since Christmas. Do you have any tips to help with that kind of motivation besides the "I want to join the Air Force" that I've been telling myself?

If you think something might be wrong with you, then meps might be kind of stressful. Otherwise, it's really boring and you will probably be waiting around a lot. I think the best advice for meps is this: Make sure you're not gonna be distracted by anything when you go, ask your recruiter for details if there is anything you are worried about, TELL your recruiter about any concerns you might have, and most importantly just make sure you're well rested before you go.

Awesome video been waiting for a waiver for a mistake I made when I was 17 that caused me to get a felony... even though it was dismissed with conditions it’s been a pain in the ass to get in but I believe in myself and that I’m a better person now, that my waiver will get approved! Bro you're blessed. I would give anything to be you. Plus, I have been wanting to get into the Air Force for a minute now and I don't wanna give up on my dreams. I wish I could meet your sir and that you were my recruiters. Cause I have alot of obstacles to climb.
I hear ya. Sometimes these things take awhile. I know it sucks, because we all wanna be where we see ourselves, but honestly the obstacles make us who we become. I truly believe if it weren’t for my obstacles, there’d be no way I could’ve grown into who I am now. So appreciate these struggles, and use them as fuel to keep pushing and become a better you. Even if you never make it into the Air Force, always appreciate the struggle and become stronger. Then 1 year, maybe 5 or maybe 10 years from, you can look back at this version of yourself and just be grateful and humble that you went through everything you had to go through to become successful.
Also, make a plan of where you see yourself in 5 years. Then ask your self how are you gonna get there. Do as much research, find as many mentors and grind as hard as possible. If you do that and stick to it everyday, you’ll reach that goal. I promise. 🙌🏽🙌🏽💪🏽

Whats up Jody! So right now I’m waiting to get cleared up from the doctors at meps since I had three surgeries. I’ve been going back and forth trying to show prove to my recruiter that I’m physically fine and ready to join the Air Force but it just seems to be taking forever. After watching this video it actually motivated me to be patient and wait on God’s timing because when God opens door he will open them at the perfect time. I’m glad you never gave up and got the chance to become a recruiter because without most of your videos I wouldn’t really know much about the Air Force. Thank you for your knowledge!

You look like your Dad! Anyway, I wish you were my recruiter. I have decided to join as a nurse and I have an arrest in my background. It really scares me. I know someone like you would fight for me, but not all recruiters are you unfortunately. My charges were dismissed but it still scares me since I want to be in the Air Force so badly. I'm also almost too old to join and I hear that the process to join as a nurse officer is lengthy. I worry that I will age out. Your videos have helped me immensely and I want to thank you not only for your service, but for the videos you put out that have made me decide that this is where I want and need to be. Thank you!

Because of your arrest, it may be impossible to get accepted as a nurse officer, because they are so strict when it comes to officer qualifications. So that’s something to think about. I hope this helps.

Love this video. I always tell people that joining the Air Force was the best decision I ever made. I grew up in an urban area where not many kids out of high school do much with their lives. It opened up many doors for me during a time where I was looking for a road to my career. I got my full time job as a result of a veteran hiring initiative and I’m here 8 years later in a leadership role as a Foreman. Your story is almost identical to mine in terms of wanting to be a rapper at age 15-25 and working dead end jobs. I’m currently 31 finishing my bachelors degree in hopes to apply to the Air Force as a clinical psychologist officer. Praying and working hard to get that acceptance letter 🙏

Yoooo. This is so normal for people wanting to join, especially if their family isn’t supportive or familiar with the process. Most of the parents I dealt with who were unsupportive, were so proud seeing their kids when they grew into professionals after all the training.

Let’s just say you look at a lot of video and imagery, and potentially have to confirm the video you’re watching is the bad guy. Then bad guy go bye bye. I mean there’s a lot more to it, but that’s the stuff you need to be aware of if you’re thinking about doing it.

Yea man. I try to get away from my past as far as possible, but sometimes people need to know that not everyone’s perfect, but you can still become the best version of you no matter what. @@Jodywithawhy how would you recommend approaching the recruiter about retesting? When my son was texted his score his recruiter stated that he didnt qualify for any jobs and offered to find contacts for other branches of service if intetested.
He can just request to test again. If it’s been a month since his last test, he should be able to test again no problem.

Ayee. Congrats. I’ll see you here when you get here. 🤙🏽. Recruiting DSD is that bad. I couldn’t make any rank in 1N1, but I made two back to back in recruiting. So for me it was the best decision. But then again, I’m more of a people person than an analyst.
Exact reason i want to be a recruiter at one point in my career when i make it in. I had a felony waiver just approved & waiting on 1 more felony waiver & 4 more misdemeanor waivers, ik its alot but i trust God & i want to be a recruiter to help other kids in my situation. I had about 7 recruiters (army/navy) tell me no chance, it just took 1 army recruiter to do the paperwork. Im forever grateful & hope i will make it in.
I'm glad we have recruiters like yourself. I'm amazed at how similar our paths are. My experience with my recruiter has been phenomenal. Just cleared my MEPS and scored well on my ASVAB. Next I need to pick a job and hopefully swear in. Wish me luck!

Where you were at mentally after having to spend the night in jail is where I’m at right now. I was super close to 220, and the day after Christmas I lost my job at FedEx. Took me 7 weeks to find a new job. It was mentally draining and I did not keep up with my strict calorie deficit diet and exercise. 2 weeks ago I finally picked up a job making the same money and sometimes more than what I was making at FedEx. I haven’t weighed myself since the Tuesday before Christmas but I know I gained some. So today I’m back at it. Just a speed bump in my journey, that’s all.

Hey Jody! Just wanna say I love and really appreciate all your videos and advice you give. All my life since I was a Child I wanted to enlist in the military, I am currently trying to go for the Airforce, but I'm worried.
I had Childhood asthema it was bad when i was 6-13 but after I haven't had any issues for like 10 years, I spoke with my doctor and he says its been beyond fives since I had any issues or attack he put it as its controlled. The last time I said I had childhood asthema the recruiter said he wanted my med files but my clinic gave me a hard time and didnt want to release them so my recruiter bailed on me. He said come back in five years, im 25!!!!! XD AINT NO BODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!
So i consulted my doctor and I remember what my recruiter said, so thats why my doctor said its been like 13- 15 years since my last asthema attacked and that my status is that its controlled asthema. He also said if they ask about my Asthema that I can tell the recruiter No if I wanted to.
But what is your advice???? I want this dream... bad... I dropped 30 pounds i need 30 more to reach AF standards to get in. Can I say no? Not mention it? I know you said at meps they ask you your medical history.
I am going back to my university and thinking about getting a BA in Ethical Hacker. so i want to do AG and do 6 years so i can complete my degree in 2 years, then maybe somewhere in the future try going to OTS thats my goal and dream. Any advice will be appreciated
Hello. Thanks for the support first off. But to answer your question, it sounds like an easy medical waiver. If you haven’t had any issues in that long, most likely you won’t have any issues getting accepted. I definitely would bring it up, because let’s say you get in, and for some reason your asthma resurfaces, if it wasn’t documented you can get fraudulent enlistment.

I never recommend don’t talk about it. The reason why is let’s say you go to basic and for some reason you experience asthma like symptoms. If you tell them while in basic you used to have asthma, that would be considered fraudulent enlistment and they’d kick you out. So just be honest. Aye bro, if the recruiter in your area is non responsive, you can find another. Download the aim high app and, click on the three dashes in the bottom right, then click on find a recruiter. Input surrounding zip codes near you, and call all the surrounding recruiters. You may have to travel some, but that might be the way. 💪🏽

@@wb2605 it’s same happened to me man. I’m here in Las Vegas. I went down to the office twice but the office and both time were closed. Trying to text them, and I got no response. I don’t know if it’s because of the COVID, but I also saw Navy and Marines were both open. Keep trying man, it’s not too late. I have a friend his now 40 years old who regrets never try to join the military. 💪

Thank you for this story! My wife and I just had a convo the other day and I told her I wanted to go back in the Army National Guard after being out of uniform for 18 years. After seeing your videos though, I’m thinking about heading the Air Force route. Did 3 years AFJROTC in Highschool and was an E3 when I separated from the ARNG. I just turned 35 last month, have a wife and 2 kids, and left the ARNG with a general entry discharge back in 07. Think I have a shot at qualifying for the Air Force Reserve?
I would say give the reserve and air national guard a shot. They should be able to work with you.
