  • In this video, we dive into the common misconception that renting a car is the best way to navigate Las Vegas. We uncover the hidden disadvantages of car rentals, such as the high costs associated with taxes, parking fees, and the hassle of finding parking spots, especially when hotel hopping on the Strip.
But it's not just about the costs; we also highlight the challenges of dealing with traffic and the inconvenience of remote self-parking facilities at hotels. Many travelers opt for taxis to avoid these issues, yet concerns about dishonest drivers and metered fares in heavy traffic can deter this option.
Enter the era of ridesharing with Uber and Lyft, which many see as a solution. However, we reveal a critical point often overlooked: rideshare pickup locations are inconveniently situated, far from the primary areas like hotel entrances or airport baggage claims where taxis are readily available.
We offer practical advice for navigating Las Vegas efficiently:
Use taxis for direct routes between the airport and hotels on the Strip, benefiting from fixed rates.
Opt for Uber or Lyft when venturing beyond the Strip.
Discover the efficiency of bus services along Las Vegas Boulevard, with all-day passes available for just $8, providing a cost-effective and convenient option for exploring the heart of Vegas.
Join us as we guide you through the best transportation strategies in Las Vegas, saving you time, money, and unnecessary stress. Say goodbye to car rental woes and hello to a smoother, more enjoyable Las Vegas experience.

Rental car prices + parking can be crazy high for sure! Uber/Lyft are definitely a better option in major cities for the price and convenience. Thanks for the info + video!

I took a local bus from the airport, think it cost like $3 or $4 or something, absolutely worth it. Although I will say the bus stop seemed very much tucked out of the way at the airport, don't get me wrong it was still at the airport but other airports I've been to bus stops were in the same area where airport drop offs were, this was kind of tucked away near a parking structure or something.

@Mike_B : Thank you for taking the time to share your tips with us. It seems like a great option for those who don't have much luggage and aren't in a hurry. A channel called "Vegas Nola Man" even made a video showing the walk to the bus station from the terminal. Thanks again for highlighting this.

@@roadtripparents Honestly I couldn't see a taxi as being that much cheaper, although I will say waiting a bus stop going back to the airport when it was 112° outside was definitely an experience... at least it was a dry heat :)
That said, I can't imagine a situation where you would bring a lot of luggage to Las Vegas unless you were doing some talk/convention there that required you to have multiple levels of clothes and what not.

@Mike_B, I'd love to try the bus next time I'm in Vegas. Thanks again for your insights.

Vegas car rentals are waaayyy overpriced. Buy a 3 day bus pass for $20 bucks. Unlimited rides.

I stopped renting cars because driving at night was not worth the risk and insurance was also stupid expensive. When i go to the expo, i get a hotel close to the tram

That is good advice for people that are first timers or just come occasionally. I go once a year, and I have nothing to do with the strip. Yes with all the add on charges renting a car is expensive, but I do not stay at any strip hotels. They charge parking fees. I stay off the strip on Boulder Highway. Also, you don’t consider the exorbitant prices on everything that you buy on the trip. When you get off the strip you can have affordable meals. You can even have the grocery as an option to save even more money.

Hello @cheap25 : Thank so much for sharing your insights! Do you have an off-strip hotel you would recommend, please? Also, do you find it more cost-effective in your case to rent a car and drive to these off-strip locations, or do they offer shuttle services? I'm curious to learn more about your approach. Thanks again for stopping by!

@@roadtripparents I stay at the Longhorn. Now most people would turn up their nose at this place but it is the only place that I have found that has just a $10 resort fee and has reasonable pricing on the rooms. Again, the first timer will want to go to the strip and do all the strip stuff. I did that back when that was somewhat affordable in the early 2010s and in the 90s. Before it all just changed into corporate greed, and just a pathetic, fleecing and tourist trap. There is no shuttle service or anything like that which is why I rent a car. I am looking into cheaper car rental options like Touro, but I know some people can get ripped off on bogus cleaning fee or damage charges on that platform. I stay for 10 days and pretend like I am a local . My affordable approach is what allows me to stay out here this long. With everything included the trip amounts to be 2000 and change which I guess averages to like roughly a little over $200 a day no way that you have a daily rate like that if you stay at a strip hotel. Also, looking into staying at friends or acquaintances property to save even more money.

Thanks so much for the details @cheap25! I have never tried Turo; I might still opt for Uber/Lyft due to my lack of experience. :)
