  • A compilation of clips from Steam Toys In Action (STIA) 2024 held at the Abbey Pumping Station Museum in Leicester. In the video can be seen a great variety of toy and model steam engines from a variety of makers including Mamod, Wilesco, Stuart Turner, Marklin, DR Mercer, Bing, Doll, Cheddar Models, SEL, Maxitrak and more...
This year was the 33rd STIA and was held on 5th March 2024.
My display can be seen at 01:58.
If you'd like to exhibit or visit next year, then keep an eye out on their websites for details:
    www.abbeypumpingstation.org/
    www.leicestermuseums.org/abbe...
The Abbey Pumping Station Museum is a former sewage pumping station built in 1891 and contains four Woolf compound beam engines built by Gimson & Company of Leicester. The engines have been restored to working order by a team of volunteers, and the old pumping station is now the home to the Leicester Council industrial museum. One of the beam engines can be seen in steam at 04:37.
I will put together a video with some more clips of the beam engine running soon...

In the past, wind powered toys were also very popular. The simpler ones used a propeller driven crank to provide movement.
i.e.. two boxers lunging at each other; a horse's legs and head moving, etc. Some of the more complex one's were very intricate. ⚓⛵

Have never come across wind driven toys, shall have to look them up.

10:22 - Rare to see a poppet valve model steamer!
    Very nice video.

You can see two examples in this video, mine is the middle size example of the Bing poppet valve engines at about 02:15. The one at 10:22 is the largest size of the range.

Thankyou - they're both items from my collection - take a look through my other videos and you'll see some more detailed videos about them. The steam powered gramophone is my own creation, and there is a whole playlist on the channel devoted to its design and construction.

So much easier to see the engines here than on the day :-D. Maybe I'll take my one engine there to steam up one day?

    • @SteamandThings
      @SteamandThings  Před 3 měsíci

Yes, it can all be a bit overwhelming on the day! 😂 They're always looking for exhibitors so I'm sure you'd be welcome!

A fascinating video of more steam toys, mini electric generators, spy kit generators, locomotives both road and rail and even a Steam Gramophone! Great stuff sir. I hope you don't mind me sharing this video with friends. Many thanks for the post. Cheers!

Where do he get the threshing machine at 1:29? Does anyone know if they're being produced, if so, where, or did he make this? If so, would he sell the plans? I think that if one were to mass produce these that actually worked, even assisted by hidden batteries, one could hardly keep up with demand, for saw mills and threshing machines are in very short supply and I'm sure there is a pent up demand. How about 3D printing parts to be assembled?
