Queen & Elton John - The Show Must Go On (Live, 1997)
/ queenofficial - Hudba
john deacon's final permormance.....
my favorite bass player..amazing.
Queen isn't the same without him, insanely good Bass player, makes them that bit louder aswell. just a powerful player he really is.
he left the band, right ?
A1WAN correct and into retirement. Which is a shame, he's my favourite bassist, but nevertheless it's his choice and I hope he is doing well in retirement.
even a calm person....but a super star in any sense!
Elton lost sooo many friends to aids in the 80s and 90s.. He covered this with Queen as a sign of his love and respect for Freddie.. I love this version...
I agree. Loved your opinion.
@@oaspich I agree. Loved your opinion.
Awesome version
And in that same year, 1997, he lost Gianni Versace and Lady Diana...
I agree totally, but queen can't cover their own song bro 😂
you can tell just by Johns face that he doesn't want to do it anymore, such sadness.
sam wilkinson yeah, I saw a video about the rehearsal for this and Brian said that after this performance John said, “I can’t. I just can’t do this anymore.”
it's also sad to see how he barely moves...
I don't blame him, i would be so depressed as well.
@@minicoopertrooper5643 I didn't blame him, I know how he felt about Freddie's death and how it affected him...
@@evyakoyg718 John Deacon was so good friends with Freddie.
Deacon last performance with Queen.
Elton John was very good here.
Elton John put his heart and soul into this song u can tell. He was friends with Freddie
He also lost many friends to aids
Just friends? Lol
Elton for what it's worth rocked it. Unfortunately John Deacon looked so detached and so lost without Freddie. It was time for him to go and move on and he knew that.
Never seen Elton sing so high in a live performance. He was up there to honor a legacy.
@@fwoink1659 This was 1 key lower than the version he did at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley 1992.
Well, this version was the best I have ever heard, of course right after the original version. The trick is that, Elton didn't try to sing it like Freddie did. He sang it in his own style, and this is the result. :)
I agree, and i also like him,But fred's version is something unique
Unfortunately we will never seen Freddie sings this song in live version, even in studio version he sing only one take.
Agree. But it's also in A minor... one tune lower than studio version ;-)
@@sarascarpati887I like the 1992 version better.
@@themaeglin its in G minor, the 1992 version its in A minor
My God, John sounds phenomenal. Such an imaginative, interesting bassline, without getting in anybody else's way.
I mean it’s a good bassline but wouldn’t say it’s imaginative
Last performance on stage of John Deacon: a real Sir.
Parole sante @gianluca socci
Imagine if the whole band got Knighted: Sir Freddie Mercury, Sir Brian May, Sir John Deacon and Sir Roger Taylor…😔
@@theplushkingoftsumtsum785 I wouldn't give a f.
@@english3082then, don't even bother commenting in the first place. Such a disappointment.
4:18: 'I'm doing this for Freddie. Your a legend Freddie Mercury. Screw everyone else who doesn't KNOW this yet.' - Elton John.
Of course nobody can replace Freddie, but I'd say Elton did a decent job in his place!
elton john is a great singer.
Andreew guitar **was**
still is
Only Elton can replace him!!
Berrrrrrrr!
Deacy had aged so much :( and yet, somehow, Brian looked the same as he did in the 70s.
no, he looks older bro
Deacy became depressed after Freddie passed, I think the depression and stress aged him a lot
Lau Brian just got a little bit of those wrinkles, but now it’s rocking the white hair
Still has the same crazy hair to this day lol
tapi john guanteng di sini
As a piano player Elton is always seated and whenever he's stood up and sang he's always looked awkward and out of place but he absolutely kills it here! love this
You see that too when people who usually play guitar while they sing sing without their guitar. They have no idea what to do with their arms.
*pianist
@@frontlinesnerf1651 imagine deciding to start correcting grammar on a 4 year old comment 😂😂😂
Deacys final performance with queen. He took Freddie's death the hardest knowing that he was queens youngest member, and Freddie's go to band member when he was at his lowest.
last concert with john deacon :(
Mercury's appeal was not primarily his voice, but his musical genius; his writing was powerful, profound, epic. I have to say it, Elton John has not only the gift of writing, but his musical range being lower makes this song even darker, and to my opinion, better.
Leonel Cantú de Llano 1. This is not better than Freddie's version - middle of the road at best.
2. Elton's range is too similar to the music, makes it sound flat and some of the words inaudible
3. Freddie was dying when he sang this so you miss the point - I'd take another listen to Freddie's with this in mind.
Peace :)
swingingmonk 4) Freddie didn't write this song, Brian May did :P
Maximiliano Penna I knew this already which is why I wrote 'sang this song'. It does not take away at all from what the song meant and how it was sang :)
swingingmonk Of course, but it's really touching that Brian wrote the song because of Freddie. It's one of my favourites. :3
Wonderful bass plying by John Deacon. Beautiful arrangements. He was such a great bass player. Miss him so much.
Obviously, there is nobody on this entire planet that could possibly match Freddie's unbeatable lead vocals on the original 'Innuendo' studio recording from 1991, but the great Elton John still does a sterling job of it, so hats off to him for that.
In fact, I'm sure the legendary Freddie Mercury himself will be looking down and beaming with huge pride and delight at his four old friends brilliant 'Live' performance of this unforgettable Queen anthem.
I personally think its amazing for Elton to do this
Imagine if Elton John stayed to continue with Queen after Freddie's death and John stayed with the band. And let's not forget how much we wish Freddie was still alive today.
Probably not too
I don't like this version, Elton John would need to perform Queen songs a few octaves lower
@@wdlkmpx 70s Elton would def be able to sing Show Must Go On in studio key, but not late 90s Elton no way
There are some voices that reach deep into the soul of man. Elton John was one such voice. It is heard here to devastating effect. Freddie would have been proud.
It makes me sad. With Freddie singing, you didn't need dancers, or people prancing around the stage. Just Freddie, and his musical genius. Rest In Peace.
it was an event that those dancers should be really there
The Wolf is Awesome get out of here and develop some sense
Ryan Harris because for Queen Freddie was the dancer who pranced around the stage. He was one of a kind and I'm sad I was born after he died
@The Wolf is Awesome fuck off little shit
Ryan Harris Queen were guests at a ballet performance??
I really like this version. I love both Queen’s and Elton’s music, and together it works so well. Only thing I don’t like about this version is the “I’ll face it with a Grin, I’m never giving in, on with the show.” is lower and less powerful than the original. Also I like how John still has that swagger with his little turns, bounces and dance moves. Even though he was older and this was his final performance.
as soon as i read this lol it played the ill face it with a grin, i guess its all coincidence my queen freddie mercury
John Deacon contributed alot of songs to Queen. He loved Freddie and he was good to all the guys, he became sort of a bookkeeper for them, and they didn't make a move without John's OK...He loved Freddie- he was the extrovert to John's Deacon's introvert..ying and yang..We love you Deaks..The show must go on..
I want Cry!!! JOHN PLEASE COME BACK!! 😪
Same, feeling like anytime tears are gonna come out of my eyes
Yep... he looked so sad. He probably felt lost on stage or in the wrong place without freddie :((
last time Deacon put a foot on stage... how much I wish he would have been more involved after that day
This is the first time in my whole life I understood the power and magic of Elton John as a singer... Powerfull, soulfull, legendary!!!
Is that the last John's performance with Brian and Roger?
yes :(
Gabriele Gomes really?
Sara Scarpati Yeah, after this performace he recorded No-One But You in studio Brian and Roger and then, announced his retirement.
A,ok
Yes
Deaconnnnn!!!!!!!! ;(
Tremendooooo, sii calculo que ultima vez!!!!!!
I am the 500th comment it has to be special. This is my comment:
John Deacon we will never forget you, for me you are the greatest musican in the world.
Special indeed.
Don’t forget Freddie!
Deacon ♥
My god, look at John! Usually he's always vibing, jumping, a lil dancing and enjoying it, but look at him here! You can tell he's had enough!😓
Goosebumps. Tears. How can I miss a man I never met?
Elton John was a good friend of Freddie Mercury, I looked that he visited Freddie a day before his death, and he saw a very sick Freddie, now I know why he wanted to sing this song
amazing music
EDUARDO?
Te encontré Eduardo
That last part where Elton sings out "SHOW MUST GO ON!," to me is the most epic moment in many live performances. Not saying is better than any others out there but this one performance gives me the chills every time!
It’s sad to see how Deaky is in this vid before he was smiling and dancing around now he’s just still and u can tell by his face he can’t do it anymore
Well this particular song isn't exactly supposed to be happy.
I think it was to emotional for him to continue with Queen. It's sad to see John like this but i think we need to accept that he's done with it sadly enough..
@@TheaterPup well i mean elton, brian are still rocking out and being relatively theatrical and deaky was normally very bouncy and thrilled to be preforming and it’s sad to see how his character is so altered
look at John he don't move as usual when he play, he just looks like tired and sad, not funny for his last appearance 😓
Looked at.
Wasn't really meant to be funny.
Honestly what did you expect? It was John's final performance, he was never the same after Freddie's death and went into a pretty bad state of deppression after his death, of course he wasn't going to be playing like normal.
@@thegamingcrew5789 It makes me so sad 😥
¡Tremendo John Deacon! Esperemos que este gran bajista vuelva a aparecer en el futuro junto a Brian y Roger.
+Pat González La esperanza es lo último que se pierde. Sería tan bonito que lo hiciera.
Lamentablemente no creo q vuelva a aparecer
Aunque sea una aparición de deacon tocando junto con la banda.
Su caracter timido no lo deja :(
El maestro John deacon
Man this song hits hard...whatever happens the show must go on.
This performance gives me chills
It's amazing
Inside my heart is breaking. For Deaky. He's crying poor man. Love you Deaky xxxx
Aside from Paul Rodgers, Elton John is one of those who gave justice to the song.
Aside from obviously freddie, this is the BEST cover of the show must go on. Elton puts his all into this!
I really like how they decided not to sing the last part that says "show". It seems to me like a tribute to Freddie, like saying he is the only one who can do that and we are going to honor it. Great job by Elton John by the way... he is no Freddie, but that's the best version I've ever heard after the original.
Could not agree more about the first part, could not agree less about the second part. No need to explain why I agree with the first one, so here is about the second: I simply believe Elton does not have the appropriate voice to sing things like this. Hate me all you want, but in my opinion he cannot do the honors to this song, he cannot convey the power that Freddie did. Then again, I have yet to find a Show Must Go On cover that I like...
I totally agree with you on the part that he cannot convey the power Freddie did. However I believe that the way he decided to sing it, I his own style, is what makes this version so good. I am sure that if he decided to sing it like Freddie it would be just a bad attempt.
Peter K Definitely easier to sing along though :D
caliczumanapakcza much better then lambert or paul rogers though...
What about the 1992 version?
Elton gave it his own touch, which I think was very unique and powerful. Fantastic!
We Miss You John Deacon🙂
Amazing. Thank you Sir Elton John xxx
I feel about to cry for John. His final performance, he must have felt so strange there. Elton John is great, but he is not Freddie. And Freddie was everything to him, until the point he felt he couldnt do that without him, and decided to leave 😢
To this day, I lost my best friend since grade school, without even knowing..I called her to see how her move went, and two days later she died of Cancer she didn't even know she had. I didn't find out till months later when I dedicated her favorite song to her on FB, like I do when I'm thinking about her- the rest of the band saw my post, and called ( they literally didn't know how to tell me)---Its really heartfelt and normal to care and dedicate a song to someone you've lost..its our way of saying-"I still love you"
Thanks Elton for singing for me whilst i was busy recording new songs in the studio ;)
john we love you!!!!
ELTON JOHN AND QUEEN MATCH VERY WELL HERE I ADORE THIS VERSION
Oh John Deacon. Depressions are horrible. 😓 He's the only one who's really suffered from the limelight. 😔
And he got extremely effected by Freddie's death. 😓 I hope you feel a bit better now John. 😞🙂
R.I.P. Freddy. ❤🕊🕊
B R U T A L ! ! masterpiece performance from Sir Elton, Freddie approves.
THIS SONG ALWAYS MAKES MY HEART SAD. THIS SONG MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME I HEAR IT!
Thanks , Elton John
It’s breaking my heart... 😢💔... Oh,Freddie, I miss you so much.
😭❤️
~Inside my heart Is breaking~
Don't worry
Ladies and gents, the trademark sound of Brian May and Queen @3:48
Awesome version! Elton on his own style make it great. May brilliant as always, never repeating a single solo and pushing the band to perfect metric riffs! Roger with the tidy and power of the great drums player as he is, making magic alone. And as rubric this fantastic tribute to Freddie, last appearance of Deacon with Queen ever. During the whole song, John plays crying along May guitar sad radical cords!! #LonglifetoRock #Showmustgoon
We miss you Mr Deacon
What a glorious tribute to Freddie.
Bless Deacy’s heart, his last performance.
Elton John is great, but nobody beats Freddy on this one, especially when you take the fact that he recorded it (in one take!!) right before he died.
With freaking AIDS
Hell yes!!! The original it's just unbeatable, if some of you think otherwise, just think again and go listen to it.
Juliana Viana Why compare them though? Why? What’s the purpose? It’s a tribute. Please think before you write .
He recorded this song in 1990
A year before he died
@The Wolf is Awesome Freddie puts more, because he was fucking dying, and if you are dying, you sang the show must go on better, because you are fucking dying, and you fucking want the fucking show goes on because you are a fucking famous and if you die a lot of people are going to fucking cry 😁😁😁 Now, been serius, Elton is great, but the shit you put in a song that represent that moment in your life, when you know that you are going to die in a few months... I can feel it
Probably the best live performance of The Show Must Go On
What about the 1992 version? Personally I think this one is better
Deacy looks like he's about to cry... I do not blame him... At least they all did their best. And I mean ALL OF THEM.
Ο Τζον ποτέ δεν θα ξεπεράσει τον θάνατο του Φρέντι :'( [γράφω στα ελληνικά γιατί έχεις ελληνικό όνομα]

Maaj Majewski not even Sorry seems to be the hardest word or the one?

I mày be the latest addition to the fan list of Freddie Mercury and i am in love with the person he is..i feel him, feel connected with him..and as he wanted "Your legacy may be taken but you are still the most energetic, handsome, charismatic personality and can never be boring". Luv luv luv..
Thank you Elton John for making me cry at midnight 😣😣😢😢😭😭😭
the epicness cannot be described in words..
John Deacon, please come back!
This performance was from early 1997; had it been at the end of that year in light of the other greats we'd lost(Michael Hutchence, John Denver, Jeff Buckley, Notorious BIG), still in the city where Princess Diana lost her life..the excess poignance would've been nigh-unbearable. But we continue on with life bc that's the only way to live; the show does go on🙏
Great performance. Elton has a completely different vocal style from Freddie and he does it his way producing an amazing potent sound. Unfortunately we could ever hear that live on stage by Freddie... It would be divine!
Empty spaces, what are we living for?
Abandoned places, I guess we know the score, on and on
Does anybody know what we are looking for?
Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
Hold the line
Does anybody want to take it anymore?
The show must go on
The show must go on, yeah
Inside my heart is breaking
My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on
Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance, on and on
Does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess I'm learning
I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning, round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free
The show must go on
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairy tales of yesterday, grow but never die
I can fly, my friends
The show must go on
The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin
I'm never giving in
On with the show
I'll top the bill
I'll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on
On with the show
Show
Show must go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on

Whether it’s the original recording or the Elton collab, for me, this song is proof that Freddie may be gone but his spirit lives on. And even though Deacon is long retired, like the song says...SHOW MUST GO ON!!!!
It only could be Elton John & Queen!! Epic !!!!!
Просто потрясающая музыка. Элтон, ты прекрасен ❤️ Ну и Queen, конечно же)
Last appearence of John Deacon, he looks sad or boring
Julian Collante he always looks like that he is the most quiet member of queen
Rayhan Sultan Yes I know what you mean, but I agreed when he said that "without Freddie there's no Queen".That was honourable from him.
Julian Collante it's like he knows this is it for him. the last time he will ever be on the same stage as them.
Some say that it was because of Freddie's death that he retired.
Stuart Wells After Freddie's death John became deppresed until 1997 he decided to retire from all music things.

This is simply a POWERHOUSE of a truly great song! Heartbreaking really! Imagine writing the lyrics for your dying friend. It's almost like Freddie is comforting Brian through this song.
Queen gigantic.John Deacon ❤
This is SO much better than the version from the Freddy Mercury tribute concert. Especially Elton, his voice is in much better shape here for some reason.
Maybe he has a cold or something at the tribute concert so he couldn't do it to the fullest potential

This is the last time John performed with Brian and Roger. We love you John..! I'm 16 years old, and I really dream of the day you gather with your band mates once again, I think all the Queen fans are waiting for that historical moment to happen, you gotta put some order right there... Haha.
Dante Sánchez Well spoken.
We love you John.
And we want to hear you again. Does not matter if with the other two guys left or with someone you developed on your own, or something you developed with other folks.
We just want that you try again to make some music, because we love your music too. And if it does not work out? Who cares, you still tried at least.
Yes
Dante Sánchez Sadly I think we might never hear from John Deacon again. From what Brian has said in documentaries since this John has become a bit of a hermit and doesn't really care for the company of his old bandmates anymore although I believe there's no hard feelings there...
+Alex Green Yeah... i think last year i read something where Brian and Roger said they "barely keep in contact" with John. I can understand though. I was an active martial artist and karate teacher before making the choice to retire after 18 years. It's not always possible to carry on, unfortunately.
