    That's my car! Massive thanks to LHT Performance for making it run again. It runs great. Put over 200 miles on it the day I picked it up, no issues. After 2 D15B1 engines this 1991 ED6 (Civic base model hatchback) has little bit more power now. I owned it since 1998 and over the years it kept me mobile on a tight budget. These cars were truly 'bare bone' from the factory. Not even a cigarette lighter or right side mirror. Of course it was relatively easy to upgrade it with the features from the higher specs. Swapping the 4-speed for a 5-speed and putting in the SI MPFI intake and fuel injection system made it a lot better. Next I will try to save up for the paint shop....

      I did replace the 'new' ACDELCO starter (Denso motor) with the old one I still had (also a rebuild but with a MITSUBA motor) and now it doesn't grind anymore on starting (note that the starters look exactly the same on the outside).
      I got and an alignment done and the car drives perfectly straight now with the steering wheel in the middle.
      Next I got to address some pre-existing minor issues such as the oil pressure light bulb in the instrument cluster not working, the speedometer needle wobbling and the cat. converter rattling (will probably replace it with the rest of the exhaust).

    This hits the heart. I had a 1988 cr-x from Saitama. Stock zc. I put in dual valve springs, titanium retainers, light weight pulley, act street clutch, header, tanabe exhaust with mid pipe, and a 50 shot of nitrous. Drove that car like I stole it for 4 years. Maintained it and it was the only consistent thing and my life. Someone stole it unfortunately.

    That engine bay turned out nice! Honestly, these may not make the most money from a business standpoint, but man, these restoration/rebuild/bring back to life builds are awesome to see. You could probably buy a decent shell and throw a clean swap in it once every couple months and do decent on them and it'd be good content to watch. Good job!! I had a civic same color with a dohc zc too. I put b18LS main bearings to keep the crankshaft from vibrating, (not many people know that is possible), D16Z6 rods, DohcZC pistons polished, block milled, head shaved, intake ported and polished with close to 13:3:1 compression, lsd D16a6 with zc final gear transmission, and a 100 shot of NOS. I would smoke B16’s and GSR’s back in the day lol. It never blew up. Take care of that thing!!!

    I am missing the simplicity of these cars! I had a 1991 Base Civic that I swapped to a ZC and man what a difference in power! Gas mileage wasn't all that much different but it was close to double the HP! It reacted well to intake and exhaust as well! That car ended up getting totalled and I moved the ZC to a 1988 4 door with a gutted interior and it was a beast! Loves that one! Eventually I got a 1990 Si with a B18C5 in there and that was so much fun! (I did the work my self on those cars too! ) Thanks for the throw back and I would really love to get a Civic EF 4 door again and make it into a track car!

    I have ALWAYS wanted to build a ZC and boost it. I have owned a few turbo Hondas in my lifetime. I boosted my 1992 Integra GS with a B18A2, I boosted my 1989 CRX with a JDM D15B that I swapped to OBD-1, I just sold my 1997 Civic coupe that had a FULLY BUILT LSVTEC turbo that made 709 whp at 34 psi from a Garrett GTS3582, but in the past it also had a boosted JDM D15B, and a B18B1 that I rebuilt, gapped the rings for boost, BC Stage 2 Turbo cams, and used alot of K-tuned and Skunk2 parts. It made 412 whp at 18 psi with stock internals.

      Sorry for the novel John, I have always loved my Hondas. They're my favorite brand. My first car was a 1979 Civic 1200 4 speed, and I also had a 1986 Prelude 2.0 Si 5 speed (the first year for PGM-FI) that I bought off of a lady who bought it from MotorTrend Magazine. The title even showed that it was their test car for 1986.

    Im not sure if you will see this or are already aware but i found this trick for timing on i know for certain the b series and h series cams, they have a hole in the cam rail and a dimple in the cam and if you line up them you can put a punch or something similar down to line up both cams in perfect timing every single time, I'm not sure if any other hondas series are like this and would like your feedback (if you wouldn't mind) if they are as i don't have access to any other series.

    apologies in advance for possibly a silly question, but this late in the game what would be the main driver of picking to drop in a dohc ZC motor instead of a VTEC b series? I guess just cost if all you're needing is something to keep the car usable since ZC are essentially D series so transmission, engine mounts etc are all the same?

    • @LHTPerformance
      @LHTPerformance  Před 5 měsíci +1

      You pretty much answered the question. It’s a direct bolt in with no need for custom parts or kits. It’s more plentiful than the original motor and makes more power.

    • @ElbertWR
      @ElbertWR Před 5 měsíci +1

      When the 2nd D15B1 engine finally gave up, I considered my options. Finding a low mileage B series motor for a decent price is close to impossible these days. This ZC had less than 70K miles on it (documented, because the supplier imported the whole front end of the Japanese CRX it came from). A B series engine would have need a very costly complete rebuild. Plus a lot more specific parts, transmission, wiring, etc.
      For me the goal was not to turn it into a super fast racer, but rather a reliable runner with a little more performance with a 'reasonable' price tag.

      @@ElbertWR ah so cool, thanks for the detailed explanation! Definitely makes sense. My first car ever was a 1990 Civic DX sedan 5spd and honestly I still miss it for basic commuting. I hate to sound old, but it really seems like cars back then were just more reliable/durable and easier to maintain or repair - but i remember exactly what you said, super easy to upgrade the lower model car with a lot of parts from the higher trim levels.
