    I've made a strictly single-pigment watercolor collection and palettes, but these paints are so tempting. The price for the whole 24 watercolor set is reasonable too. I love how Holbein names their multipigment paints, especially their Irodori gouache line, cos they use nature words, and it strikes my fancy.

    Thanks for sharing this info! The cherry blossom pink looks like a mix of potter's pink (PR 233) and Holbein's Shell Pink watercolor (which contains PO73 and PW 6 and is my favourite pastel color from Holbein). I should try this mix soon since I have the W&N Potter's Pink and Holbein Shell Pink 😃

    And I agree that nature inspired colors have a much stronger draw to them, that's what I love about DeepDeepLight brand, the color names already tickle your imagination and some unexplained feeling of serenity and meaning. And you want to draw their namesakes using these colors.

    Very interesting analysis! I think most of them feel like specialty colors that would have limited use as they have so many pigments. As a Holbein fan it would be great if they released single pigment versions for some of the pigments used in them. Of these I could definitely see the cherry blossom pink and some of the separating greens (or yellows, as they are named) as useful convenience colors.

  • @nadeaner.cowley513
    @nadeaner.cowley513 Před měsícem +3

    I wonder why Holbein decided on the fugitive colors...like I feel like instead of PO13 they could have used PO71- which is another bright transparent orange....
    I don't know much about florescent dyes but aren't they all fugitive? Because Holbein gave the colors with florescent dyes a decent Lightfoot score....please some comment their opinions....Anyway, I love so many of these colors and I already can feel the want monster growling inside my chest. Lol. Great video. Thanks for sharing ❤

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  Před měsícem +5

      considering their regular watercolour line still has fugitive pigments like bright violet, opera, PR83, and NBr8... i think they just dont care too much about using the most lightfast pigments.

    • @Mmmmagu
      @Mmmmagu Před měsícem +5

      Holbein uses their own lightfastness grading system and it's not know how exactly they check it, so in general their ratings shouldn't be fully trusted. Fluo pigments are definitely NOT lightfast

      no, chalkiness usually means there’s a lot of filler in the paints, which makes the paints cheaper/more affordable. sakura koi are very beginner paints. the quality is even worse than student grade paints like Vangogh and Cotman. granulation, for lack of a better explanation, is when ur able to see pigment particles. this is due to how the pigment was processed or an actual characteristic of the pigment itself.

    Personally, I love all the new granulating colors even when they’re way too similar to other colors because the less exclusive a color (combo) becomes, maybe the more affordable it will become

    I'm super disappointed. Not a single, single pigment tube. These look pretty but they I find them gimmicky. Given their price, I'd much rather mix my own granulating mixes from the paints I have.

      if it's just a single pigment, i think they're just add it to their regular watercolour range. hopefully some day they'll expand :)

    Is it just me, or this is conflating granulation with separation? Some of these swatches look granulating, but most show off separating tones…
