    I am sitting here on a rainy day in the Mojave Desert with my guitar on my lap listening to this beautiful music while the rain gently falls on the roof of my patio. It's like I stumbled into a medieval dream with beautiful music as the soundtrack. I don't want to wake up. This is wonderful playing. Grazie.

    Lovely! So this what it did feel like to have my own personal lute band every time I wanted to hold a party in my court

  • @ReferenceFidelityComponents

    The lute playing sounds like a gentle prayer drifting up to Heaven. It reminds me that today we have too much harshness and noise in our lives and not enough of this gentle beauty. It is more in keeping and touch with the true human condition than the noise of so called "modern music".
    Thank you for sharing this. I will add that composer's work to my collection.

      I don't know what you mean exactly, but "modern music" is too broad a term to be used in such a negative way. And who said what the true human condition is? If somebody likes different music than you, it does not make them less human. I too don't care for some genres of music, contemporary or not, but saying all modern music is noise is just arrogant

      Modern life in modern cities is full of noise. Much of pop and comercial music is esencially noice. But in contemporary music, included electronic music, we can find fine works. The ancient lute music is a very beautiful one and, among others, serves as a farmaco against noise that surrounds us.

      I never found the lute to be particularly difficult. I simply have to "shift gears", as it were, when moving from one of (lute or guitar or vihuela or viol) to another instrument in that group. Shifting to viola or cello requires a bit more work, but now I'm beginning to think in cello/viola fingerings instead of just guitar/lute-like tunings.

    La sonorità del liuto specialmente se suonato da liutisti così capaci, è veramente magica. Dobbiamo, a parer mio, pagare un tributo alla grande cultura araba, dove abbiamo importato questo strumento e poi sviluppato dai nostri grandi liutai, nel corso dei secoli. Uno straordinario incontro fra due culture.

    • @ribeca100
      @ribeca100 Před 7 lety +31

      Il liuto, o laùto, strumento principe del Rinascimento, fu portato in Europa in epoca medievale dagli Arabi, che esportarono anche il termine: al 'ud (العود, ossia 'legno'), divenuto liuto (Italia), laúd (Spagna), luth (Francia), lute (Inghilterra), Laute (Germania) ecc. L'articolo al si agglutinò al sostantivo 'ud, come nel portoghese alaúde, mutando secondo le varianti linguistiche locali. In epoca rinascimentale non era ancora chiara l'etimologia della parola, tanto che Vincenzo Galilei, padre di Galileo Galilei e noto per essere tra i più brillanti e attivi frequentatori della Camerata de' Bardi, credeva che l'origine del termine fosse da ricercare nella completezza dello strumento, che essendo di grande estensione poteva intavolare l'intera gamma delle humanae voces, comprendente sette esacordi (tre duri, due naturali e due molli, ma sempre formati dalle sei sillabe da UT a LA o viceversa), secondo la complessa teoria esacordale di origine medievale (solmisazione) - da Wikipedia -

    • @umegghju
      @umegghju Před 7 lety +18

      Non dimentichiamo che gli "arabi" (nome con cui si indicano troppe popolazioni conquistate dagli arabi veri e propri) presero il liuto modificando l'arpa e/o la lira. L'arpa, uno dei più antichi strumenti usati dall'uomo, deriva a sua volta dall'... arco da caccia. Pizzicando un arco si ha un suono più o meno percettibile e bello, aggiungendo altre corde si perde la possibilità di scagliare freccie ma si guadagna la musica.
      Cioè un liuto, un'arpa, ma anche un pianoforte non sono altro che un'evoluzione degli archi della preistoria! Questo è un tributo a qualche uomo preistorico :)

    • @RenzoColameoIrlanda
      @RenzoColameoIrlanda Před 5 lety +16

      Non dimentichiamo neanche le violenze che hanno fatto gli arabi nei secoli nel territorio italiano, spagnolo, francese; etc. Prima di esaltarli; sarebbe meglio conoscerne la storia. La civilta' NON appartiene a loro; ma a noi. I frutti della nostra Cultura e' ineguagliabile. Infatti NON c'e' uno di loro (arabi) che abbia scritto queste (o altre) opere musicali. Meditate:
      Amen *

    • @thasecondman
      @thasecondman Před 6 lety +1

      Well, what I always find interesting and unsettling is that back in Renaissance Italy, the people who were the most beastly and cruel were also the people who cherished the arts, and science, think of Montefeltro, Ludovico il Moro, Cesare Borgia, Giulio II and so on. It´s a bit as if today the most thriving center of cultural production in the world would be the court of Saudi Arabia. I guess what went lost through the ceturies is the concept of nobility. Back then like now a large amount of wealth and power could only be obtained and kept by the means tha Machiavelli laid out, but back then it was not enough to be more powerful than normal people, you also had to at least pretend that you were better than normal people.

    • @RezMiser
      @RezMiser Před 6 lety +7

      I think perhaps it's more that the concept of culture was much different before the age of "mechanical reproduction" -- i.e. if you liked music, you had to create it or sponsor others to create it for you, even if you were otherwise a cruel beast. Their motives were just as selfish as the motives of most rich, powerful people today, but cultural production is beyond ownership, so it ultimately enriched society at large. Today, the rich cruel beasts of the world can just open a tap of virtually free, high-quality culture on demand (e.g. the internet) for their enjoyment (like everyone else), and spend money soley on material luxuries and political games which benefit only them and their entitled social class.

    One of the most heavenly instruments to make music. Who are the 117 idiots who gave a thumbs down? Even if it's not your cup of tea, really, can't you just appreciate the artistry of these musicians?

    wonderful - almost like a C.16th chorus pedal effect - was not unusual in those times to have a number of lutes together, for volume, also it's why there are so many pitches/sizes

    quando la tatsevali questa musica e amava la gente del posto. Ma ascoltando la sua, abbiamo potuto quasi sentire loro, pizzicare, suoni e gli odori ... non è un'ossessione
