Very nice and human! I’d like to add/speculate one more thing about Sarat’s so called silence over the matter: he, until his death, believed that Subhas was alive and would come back any time. Wouldn’t it make sense then to wait for his arrival and let the man declare to the world that he has a family. A hasty declaration, after coming back from Vienna, by Sarat would be out of place, when you harbour that hope!
That is a possibility, but he didn't know where Subhas was and when he will come back. Possibly he wanted to wait for some time and unfortunately his death intervened.
Exactly, this could have been a good reason for keeping silent. His untimely death created all the confusions, lies etc. As for Bose family, being the descendants of that parivaar, does not give them an authority on the subject. They shiw themselves to be highly confused lot. Uf they cared about their Uncle/Grand Uncle, why didn't they investigate on their part about Baghwanji too. Did they really want him to return, did they really like the idea of him having a family?? Because that would lead to his wife & daughter be the sole heir to Netaji's property, belongings & legacy. Probably the descendants did not want to let go of this opportunity.

The line of descendants who did not believe in the crash theory, and they seem to far outnumber the ones who believe in the crash, certainly should explore the Gumnami theory seriously, and they seem not to do so, judging from their public responses. But it is also to some extent understandable where they are coming from. At least reading Conundrum, I get the impression that Bhagwanji was making many tall claims, being involved in important global affairs like Indo-China war, the war in Vietnam, the Bangladesh war of liberation, his other works for his `horizon' etc etc. But, there is nothing that comes close to being called an evidence, except as far as I can recall, a letter bearing the insignia of the GOI in which GB claims he was in the high seas in and around Bangladesh during the liberation war. But that is, I'd say, a weak evidence. In the end, one cannot but wonder if GB was just daydreaming at that stage. To have lived thirty years of his life in India, when the country went through myriad of problems, entirely daydreaming is strange, not to say that it's unthinkable for someone like SB. Now it's possible that towards the end of the INA days Subhas may have grown more inclined towards mysticism (the book Breakthrough in Burma by Dr. Ba Maw has him saying that as soon as India wins freedom he'd retire into spiritualism, in one of his speeches during the INA days, addressed to Gandhi he does say, 'many of us would retire after the liberation of India is achieved', etc etc). Maybe as a response to that call he gave up everything. But again, would Subhas feel that all that had to be done was done around mid 1950's/60's... Bhagwanji himself says India is in a real mess! Of course, he was much older then, had suffered possibly torture at the hands of the Soviet, was disillusioned by Indian politics etc.
To sum it up, I'd sympathize with the initial fear of family members that the pre-1945 fiery image of Subhas would be tarnished. But, of course, I cannot understand by now, when initial fear should have been replaced by rational thoughts, why they don't investigate this matter honestly and seriously when Conundrum has presented several strong evidences. Somehow, they are not able to overcome that initial impression and fear. It is worth mentioning that one grand-niece of Subhas, Jayanti Rakshit, who is much more open to the Gumnami theory, in an interview with Kunal Bose (available on youtube), does explain the response of the children of Amiya Nath Bose in a similar fashion.

Ms Sharmila Bose seemed very hurt, to learn that her Uncle has a his very own family, to have written in such toxic words about his marriage & then going ahead with his mission of the country's liberation. Then she should have well been able to give examples of great men in history, who did have family & yet dedicated their lives to the cause of their ideals. In that their family too stood like a pillar of support. We have to respect Madam Emile for supporting Netaji when he moved on to S Asia in pursuit of his goal.

Not only did she support him in his pursuit of India's liberation, much later in 1951 she scribbled the following note to a visiting correspondent of Ananda Bazar Patrika in Vienna: `May God give him many more years to live and fulfil his sacred oath' (source: Conundrum, page 742, where they credit it to National Archives, New Delhi). So even in 1951, much after Subhas left the family behind and was not traceable, Emilie had only affection and respect for him, and no bitterness.

@Chandrachur Ghosh, If Gundami Baba was Netaji, then we should respect his decision on this matter rather than trying to establish some hypothesis on the basis of some assumptions. The person who claimed to be wife could not produce any clinching or circumstantial evidence. Gumnanmi Baba or alleged Netaji refuted the story of marriage in inner circle. The so called logic of safety of family doesn't hold good when there is subtle official haste to establish the theory of marriage. You indeed had done an excellent work on Netaji against the heavy odds. Still, you must admit that you couldn't insist on some hypothesis when especially the concerned person repeatedly denied the rumour. It may be very difficult for you to differentiate between your hard work & lapses in this tedious process. With total respect to your total research work, I must admit that you seem to be prisoner of your own theory without any clinching and circumstantial evidence. You are not ready to accept Plain Crash theory without any clinching or circumstantial evidence. You acted conversely in case of Marriage theory.

দাদা আমি একটা কথা বুঝতে পারছি না যে অনেক জায়গায় পড়েছি যে অনেক সাধু বলেছেন সুভাষচন্দ্র বসু বিয়ে করতে পরেন না তার হস্ত রেখা অনুযায়ী তিনি বিয়ে করতে পারেন না। তিনি সাধু হতে পারেন এবং যদি তিনি বেচে থাকেন তাহলে তিনি কোথায় আছেন নিজের দেশে নিজেকে কেন নিজেকে সামনে প্রকাশ করছেন না কেন ? আমরা বাঙালি সত্যী সুভাষ চন্দ্র বসু স্রধ্যা করি এবং ভালবাসি। আজকের ভারত বর্ষ তে খুব দরকার। কারন দেশের মানুষ খুব দুর্ভোগ এ আছে ।

To my belief, Netaji was never rigid in his opinions & beliefs. That is why when on one hand he could explain Brahmhacharya to his nephew, he also could change his views about marriage & family. A leader cannot be rigid with his thoughts & principals, because, situations change, people change, and its important to accommodate that to move forward.
Bhramachorjyo is appropriate for the adolescent and young men who are still not ready to establish their family life. It is much better than suppressing the natural passion and lust for the females. But if all adults were to follow that practice as a "Dharma", then the human race and their civilization would collapse. Subhas Chandra Bose committed himself to marriage only after his 35 years of age. That was also important and useful for conducting his patriotic mission from a faraway country in the midst of a devastating raging war. He never for a moment flinched from his total commitment to the mission of freeing his motherland. His wife Emile did not stop him, nor stood in his way with tearful eyes to hold him back. And through the next several years when he was forming and conducting the battle of the Azad Hind Fauz, he never spoke or regretted about his own wife and little child left back in Austria. That was a time when thousands of youngmen over the world were leaving their families, parents and wives, and siblings to throw themselves on to the fire of the war; -not a time for looking back.
