This is Soul! episode from November 15th, 1972. Hosted by Felipe Luciano. It featured Tito Puente y su Orquesta playing Para los Rumberos, Tus Ojos with Frankie Figueroa in the vocals and Niña y Señora. Then comes a very young Willie Colon and his orquestra including the famous Hector Lavoe in the vocals. This section was introduced with a clip from Fania All Stars' movie "Our Latin Thing". They performed Aguanile, Sigue Feliz and Timbalero.

So, that's Hector Lavoe on vocals. I see that this program was taped on November of 1972.Let'see, I was twenty three at that time. I remember watching this TV show back then. It was on WTTW in Chicago. Also back then I was playing sax and flute in a band called the Bagg and we were influenced a lot by these guys like Tito Puente and Ray Barreto. .

I remember this show!..this episode was fantastic… I used to watch these on PBS when I was a little kid. EVERYBODY was digging it. Of ALL Ethnicities. We were really coming together back in the 70s and 80s. ….And then came the 1990’s 😷😔 Oh well, good to Reminisce tho ☮️

This was a year before I was born, and I have Puerto Rican Lineage in Salinas, and Ponce, Puerto Rico. I love Salsa, and have been learning Puerto Rican Spanish from Rocky Rodriguez. This was a wonderful experience to watch an archive on the legends doing their thing.

I found out about it when I was 10 years old, and since then, haven't ever been ashamed of where I come from. I'm still learning Puerto Rican Spanish, which hasn't been easy, due to the fact that some words and phrases don't translate to English. And when it does, there's still no translation for it. However, I'm determined to learn, porque es parte de mí raíces.
