    recently invested my hard earned money on a 35mm film scanner...I risked myself to purchase a dedicated 35mm scanner...the Plustek OpticFilm
    before ppl will ask me for the URL for Silverfast SE VS AI comparison/difference chart
    www.silverfast...
    blooper alert I did not purchase the Pacific Image Prime film XAS my reasoning
    due to the reason of not achieving great results with flatbed scanner I thought it was time to make a video on my recent purchase...
    I debated thought and thought and thought did I regret my decision of not going with the XAS Pacific Prime scanner? I did not since in the video I would like to talk/display my personal biased opinion on the two scanners and my reasoning...It is a long super long video and boring for some....its okay the journey wont be painful....hopefully....
    Time links for those ppl

    I made the exact same choice as you. I was very tempted by the XAS. It has a focus feature! You can actually focus the image manually or let it autofocus. That part is very tempting. But just like you, I decided that the additional motorized features of the XAS were more points of failure. When my Plustek gets here in a few days, I’ll know for sure if it’s satisfying for me. I’ll put up with the XAS if I really feel like it’s necessary.

      Oh sweet hope you have a great time with it so far mine hasn't broken or haven't had any issues....as you mentioned the motorized parts make it vulnerable to jamming and since the Plustek is similar like a Nikon Coolscan where u manually push in the film holder the holder might break in extensive use fingers crossed it won't long term.
      XAS doesn't have a presence in Japan so Plustek was like the only option but the silverfast software that gets bundled together performs really well

      thanks Elijah M. Stephenson your welcome hope it helps like I said this scanner might be overkill for alot so I highly suggest the 8100 or maybe the 7100 that might be really cheap on ebay or craiglist cheers

    Hey Ryo, this calibration slide is only useful for scanning color slides. Mostly analog photgraphers are shooting c/n or b/w.

      @@RM.TokyoPhotographer Interesting idea. I would read that comparison. Plusek also has a new upgrade, the 8300i. Perhaps you could review it as well....

    Great video. After 11 months, do you still scan at 3600 dpi or have you tested results scanning at higher resolutions?

    • @RM.TokyoPhotographer
      @RM.TokyoPhotographer  Před rokem +1

      I could do that but realized it takes roughly 1.5x more time to scan compared to 2400dpi that I usually scan at.
      Really depends if you want a large print as a final output 3600dpi would be best but unfortunately I'm mostly posting for web so the happy medium is around 2400-3000ish

    Do you recommend epson 850 pro or plustek 8200i ai ?

    • @RM.TokyoPhotographer
      @RM.TokyoPhotographer  Před 2 lety +1

      I never used the V850 but if your only scanning 35mm the plustek is way better IMHO since the flatscan type of scanners originally are not meant for scanning 35mm...Medium format it does a decent job though... Hope it helps and go ood luck on your journey:)

    Great information, but a piece of advice for your presentation skills…. You HAVE to stop saying the word “Basically” SOOOO much when you are speaking. You literally say it at times upwards of 4-5 times per sentence at times and it REALLY hurts your presentation..!!!
    Again though… GREAT information and I thank you for your time..!!
