    Youve been looking like me, seeing the first scans from my Plustek 7600 :-) Nice to see you have better equipment now, enjoy it.

    Nice honest review, thanks. Been shopping for a film scan solution, I think I'll go for the Plustek 8200 i

    I've got the Plustek 8100 and I've been using it under Windows 10/11 without any problems. Pretty amazing results! And I think the last time I actually used my USB DVD drive I used it to install the software, har. Silverfast is a little bit baffling software at first but it's got LOADS of nice features.

      I'm excited to dig into Silverfast more! Seems like it's quite capable and it also plays nicely with Negative Lab Pro

    I've got a 7200, I absolutely love mine! I got it used, was still in the box but with no software, so I use mine with VueScan. The scan quality is outstanding, my only gripe is loading curled negatives into the holders is absolutely awful. Aside from that it produces wonder images coupled with Negative Lab Pro. My brothers Epson V550 absolutely can't compete with it for 35mm format scans, But of course the V550 can do medium format as well. Enjoy the scanner Luke! Always enjoy new content here, regardless of what it's about.

      Thanks! And uh, yeah I noticed the curling issues when I loaded up for the black and white test. I don't even wanna think about trying to get JCH StreetPan in the holder, that stuff's frustrating enough to just slip into an archive sleeve

      @@lukeisafinename The main problem is the hinged side of the holder pushing the negatives out of alignment, it catches on the edge of the frame closest to the hinge, It's not ideal but on really stubborn strips I will slide the strip over so the film is past the edge that normally catches, close the holder 90% of the way and then while wearing cotton gloves very gently pinch the film and slide it into position. It's a right pain in the ass but it usually works.

      How did you use vuescan on your plustek?

    • @HalidesAndHollowness
      @HalidesAndHollowness Před 2 lety +1

      @@rlo2367 It basically just works, I think if you've previously had Silverfast installed you need to uninstall the silver fast drivers. But VueScan should automatically see the plustek and give you all the options you need to start scanning.

    the best thing about silverfast is it's "negafix" options that you've havent mentioned. It's basically color calibrated for your film stocks and the colors are beautiful.

    very needed video. the dedicated scanner with no bayer filter is more analog friendly ,and than the dslr scan

    I bought the 8100 in January and never looked back. A bit of extra time scanning, but less time fixing. My workflow involves a beer or two and trying to get the scans close to good in silverfast. Then adjust if needed in Photoshop (usually levels and 3:2 crop).

    Something is off with these DSLR "scans". They rather look like a flatbed scan 🤔

  • @doozledumbler5393

    Dude, this is not a good comparison if you didn't do the DSLR scan correctly. But, in any case, you're not wrong about the Plustek.
    As for the Plustek workflow, Silverfast is just fine. Negative Lab Pro is a waste of time, for me it looks like it wipes out the grain. Just scan a tiff and edit in Lightroom. Really easy workflow.

    • @janulmann3232
      @janulmann3232 Před rokem +1

      I am definitely no pro, but plustek with the silverfast software will probably give you better results, because the epson software isn't that good (the colors don't look as good as the silverfast scanner).

    Sorry your DSLR scans look off due to your setup. Are you using a 1:1 macro lens? Is the negative being held perfectly flat and level with the lens? Are you sure you hit focus. It all looks off. Are you shooting RAW full image size? The first image looks like it's not even 24 megapixels because there's pixellation.
