I'm a little baffled why such a Melbourne icon has been left to rot like this.

Amazing video; best footage of the ballroom and gym that I've seen. I hope they both get restored and used with public access again.

I remember doing examinations for my Export Diploma in the ballroom in the 1960s.
The course was run by The Australian Institute of Export. Seeing this video certainly brings back memories

Obviously nothing came of this ‘design competition’. And a good thing too, because the ultimate winning design was a bloody eyesore.

It's heritage listed, and not one of the stupid examples thereof. Why would it need a design competition?
Restore it to it's correct historically accurate self.

A wonderful building. I hope it is restored and put to good use as it is a treasure.

If it wasn't for privatisation I reckon that the ballroom the gym and the old uniform shop would still be used as a public space

Better remove that sign about "reserving the right". Very Draconian and not very welcoming.

Draconian my ass. I long for the days when individual freedoms were respected.
Who the hell cares if people didn't feel welcome. It's quite obvious that if you didn't make an asshole of yourself, the sign didn't apply to you.

It's an historical sign in a currently disused part of a building. Why would you remove it? Don't be such a snowflake.
