It feels like Currents have finally perfected "their sound". This song sounds like everything and everyone in it are just comfortable and doing exactly what they want to.
Hope they stay heavy like that!
It’s always a safe bet to assume a band has found their sound when new singles sound like they would fit right into a previous album.
This band does not miss, it usually takes me 3-4 listens to figure out if I REALLY like a song or not. It took me like 45 seconds to decide this was one of my favorite songs of the year, if not my #1. Can’t fucking wait for these guys to drop more and catch them again on their next tour
I love the fact that i can't decide between Currents vs Invent, Animate which is my fav band. Technicality, heaviness, emotions and atmosphere are all in music of both. What a exciting time to be a fan of these perfect (for me) bands!
What’s amazing about that is that Brian and Chris have both listed Invent, Animate as one of their biggest influences
@blue I’ve always described currents as a heavier, gloomier sounding Invent, Animate. Both are fantastic bands. Currents just has the edge for me
Bro, thank you! I was so onboard with Veil of Maya after Matriarch, and have started to fall off waiting for something to hit the same way. Currents had Life // Lost in the same year and I couldn't decide which album I liked more. Invent, Animate had Stillworld the year after, and has only gotten better with every release. I check their pages weekly for new music. Currents and Invent, Animate have yet to disappoint. Can't wait for both of the new albums to drop. Will be a good year.

This is by far one of the heaviest currents song I’ve heard from them apart from poverty of self which didn’t do much for me but this single was just so freaking good. And when this dropped I was in the middle of teaching a lecture and I got the notification and decided to cut the lecture short and showed my students this song to end the lesson but yeah this single was an absolute banger and I can’t wait for the future releases 🤘

The vocals sound much more like the place I feel safest, which is still their best work imo. Makes me excited for the album now!
Listened to it last night before bed and went to bed with a smile on my face. As soon as it started with that low tuned guitar i knew it was going to be an absolute smacker. Love the ambience and guitar riffs.
The way it ends was my favorite album and by God this wait was well justified.
What gets me with this song Is when he switches tones and then goes back to the deep voice, it sends chills down my spine!
2:31 + the best moment of the whole song, love that contrast.

Regarding the chorus, to me, it sounds like he's gained way more control over his vocals so there's still a bit of restraint instead of him letting out the energy he did for The Way it Ends. Curious on other's thoughts?
My first thought was the chorus was just too chill vocally compared to the rest of the song, but after a few more listens I've loved it more and more and more
Also, the screams in the background of the chorus are beautiful
