Im a stage hand. Seen alot of bands, heard ALOT of music live. Ohana festival 2022 Brittany and her band came and played mid afternoon main stage. Until then i hadnt heard of her. Myself and 4 of my other stage hands who were on break enjoyed her set from the eagles nest backstage. I couldn't move, i couldn't speak. Literally took my soul for a ride unlike it had ever been on before. They played this song about halfway through their set and this one brought me to my knees! It's been 30 days since I was told I have cancer. It's taken this long to get a second opinion and my port in. In two days I start dose dense chemotherapy. I will be honored to listen to this song during the next six or seven months of my treatments. I thank Alabama Shakes for sending me this message.

Good luck, friend. I'm battling cancer myself at the moment. It took me about a month to start treatments as well just because of port and had to get kidney stents put in. It's a rough road. The radiation is what really kicked my ass. Hang in there .

Wishing you all positive thoughts to get through it the shit. Lost both parents to malignant melanoma & 2 best friends to cancer. Personally fight skin cancer 3 surgeries in past 4 months & 2 rounds of chemo. Have biopsies every 3 months. Gotta keep fighting. Nah, not gold. More like someone melted down a big chunk of rusty iron and added some honey to it. I mean that all in a good way. Gold is like some pop singer. This chick has some pipes and a roughness to her singing. Been listening to them most of the morning with my 1 year old daughter, dancing and singing along. Hoping I can get her started on the good stuff so she doesn't get into just the pop stuff that her friends are into when she gets older. I was listening to 60's 70's rock and old blues before I was a teenager and never got into most of the contemporary music of my youth. Fortunately I moved before high school and it was cool to like that music at the new school.

I am over 70yo. I am proud to say that when I heard this band back then I was so impressed I bought an outdated CD format recording just to get access to the sound on my old system.
My families home burnt down Nov 26th and we lost everything but each other. I start and end every day with this song and a prayer. I have NEVER posted personal stuff about my life, but in the last 18 days, I've lost my job, my relationship and my apartment, health insurance and medications at the end of this month and I'm 55 yrs old. I had cancer in 1991at 16 and was treated along side my mother fighting ovarian cancer. This spoke to me.... goose bumps.... I read her bio and she had cancer too and lost her sister to cancer.... what an anthem for cancer survivors!!!!

BUT my mamma loved us unconditionally!!! But alcoholism will destroy your family. I promise you that. I love you and know that you will find the strength to move forward . My parents would have never admitted to struggling with alcohol, and they were committed to that, till the day it killed them. I miss them.

Just wow, what a voice, melody, guitar playing and song!!! I'd never heard of Brittany Howard or the Alabama Shakes. (guess I need to keep up more lol) But, I'm a big fan of both now, and look forward to listening to more of their music.

Much love and strength to you. I lost my brother to suicide when I was thirteen. I'm 26 now, which was his age at the time. I've considered doing the same many times but the thought of putting my parents through the loss of a second son has kept me alive.
This song appeared in my queue shortly I lost my mother to alzhaimers then my older brother passed shortly after at 49. This song is so powerful and no coincidence that it appears to the ones who need to hear and heal . Thank you for your gift of music and music's magical ability to heal and inspire . I listen to this every time I consider giving up. I don't give up and will continue to strive . Music heals all.

Back playing my playlist. This number grabbed my attention when released. That driving chug of a rhythm, the slow crescendo, the kbd pushing with simple chords, the lead guitar is tasty, the bass is just driving it along, and then there's Brittney, holding it all together.
