The movie "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun" is actually an "urban remake" of even an older movie "Nadiya Ke Paar" which was "exactly the same story" with same placement of songs but with a rural background and dialect. The original movie was also a great hit. Both the movies and their songs are very well known till this day.
The older movie is a known favorite of most of the "grandfathers/mothers" and some of the "fathers/mothers" of current generation and newer one is more known amongst the younger generation.

I mean I can't recall a hollywood drama that promotes family values that one could sit an watch with parents and children as a movie together without unnecessary sex scenes, graphic violence, gore, LGBTQ refrences etc.
It's as if Hollywood producers think, it movie is not about violence, crime or murder then they have to rely on sex to sell the movie.

The main reason that makes this movie big blockbuster is the songs and music album of the movie. And another reasons are that time mostly movies which are running are may be action or action comedy, but this movie is full based on our Indian culture and rituals that is one of the reason of movie's big success. Salman Khan and madhuri dixit's chemistry loved by everyone. They came together 3rd time in this. Rajshree production and salman Khan combo plus salman Khan's name as prem in their movies also one of the reason both these actor directors duo share good bonding and whenever they reunite they created history their together success ratio is 100% every movie they worked together was a big hit.
After the success dressing sense and clothes of Madhuri dixit and salman Khan became trend. Everything from rituals, dogs ,songs became common in mostly families and in their marriages till now.
This type of movies made only once in a lifetime.
Now looking forward to watch next collaboration of Salman Khan and Rajshree production which is titled as " Prem Ki Shaadi " as per now. Now let's when they make and release movie. They just announced title.

At least one of the many reasons this movie was a huge hit, although may be a small one, was that the original movie "Nadiya Ke Paar" from 1982 was a huge hit, too, almost having an "evergreen" status, esp., in North India. The "urban" remake successfully attracted people across all the generations.
Although, it is always a risky attempt to "re-make" previously successful films but both the versions were equally loved.
I still remember that when we were little kids, we used to sing songs from "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun" while our grandparents were always humming to the songs from the older movie. Our parents were in the "middle", crazy about both the movies.

This song has one of the most iconic insult lines of all times. A lyrical parallel of what you might call a diss or a rap battle insult.
"Kisi betuke shayar ki besuri wawwaliyon
    Dulhe ki saaliyon, hare dupattewaliyon"
He refers to the girls or the bride's team as "dulhe ki saaliyon" meaning "the groom's sisters in law". Refuses to identify them as the "bride's team". Keeps IDing them in reference to the groom. That's cold. "Kisi betuke shayar ki besuri qawwaliyon" meaning "(he is addressing the girls as)some lousy poet's non melodic verbose compositions". Again, very cold and innovative slam.

Though I don't think it is possible for anyone outside the culture to truly understand this movie and this song without understanding the wedding related rituals and celebrations which are spread throughout the movie. Mostly North Indian centered marriage culture/rituals. This is a song where it is showing a custom that in a wedding, the sisters of bride try to steal shoes of the groom and the friends/brothers of groom try to save the shoes. Yes Bride side has to steal the shoes and groom side tries keep them safe….here situation was that Girls couldn’t find the shoes as boys has hidden them and were keeping a tight watch on them, so girls were asking money first as they didn’t have shoes actually, boys knew they were claiming false that they have shoes so he was asking shoes first to tease them.

Perhaps u don't know but Madhuri Dixit is considered "greatest bollywood actress of all time".she was the main hero of this movie n she was credited for this movie's success most.
She was the number one actress in 90's.
She charged more than Salman Khan for this movie.
U can react on her other songs.there r so many hit songs of her.
    N u didn't mention her.
