When Patrick first sang this to David, I was so moved but I cried when David sang it to Patrick because this took him so far outside of his comfort zone that it was truly an exceptional way to say I'm sorry and to say I love you. It's about one of the best love scenes I have ever witnessed in a show. Just beautiful.
This is the best (seriously, npi); I love that this is such a leap of faith for David but also that Patrick was able to trust and celebrate David's sincerity. This is love, too rarely seen.
they have received awards already, but if im wrong they can't receive an Emmy because this is Canadian television on Canadian channels...but idk...maybe it'll be different now that it's on Netflix...
People have said that they are the best television couple ever. I agree. Their subtlety is remarkable. Finding Patrick was wonderful ... they make me happy.
I love that both Simply The Best scenes are about the reaction of the other person as much as the person performing. Patrick bopping along, genuinely cracking up and throwing his hands in the air at the end was so unbearably sweet. What a new concept for a tv couple: actually *showing* two people who just love being with each other.
I also love that this is David letting go and not caring what anyone thinks, like how Patrick says, “You know people can see you, right?” And David Just doesn’t care. This entire scene made me smile so hard!
Everything about the Simply the Best scenes works perfectly. Both are "singing" the same song implying that they feel the same way about each other. Patrick does it in a quieter yet more public way, David does it in a more outrageous and intimate way, which I feel both fits their characters. And finally Patrick always appears on the left side of the screen during both scenes and David appears on the right, implying that they are mirror images of each other. Not to mention, yeah, the chemistry is off the charts.
David and Patrick aren't a dime store phony TV gay couple. Their love for one another is genuine and shows that the love that D and P have for one another will show no bounds. The way that they kiss each other and are physically intimate with each other makes me ugly cry. This is just the way that Dan wanted Schitt's Creek to be. No homophobia, bigotry, or anything that Dan didn't like about other shows and how gay couples are portrayed on TV.
Honestly from the beginning to this point, you see so much character growth for David. He never would’ve done this in season one. He never would’ve let someone this close. I just love it so much.
I love that Dan Levy has said this was meant to just be humorous, and it was totally unexpected that so many people thought it was so beautiful and emotional.
I’m not sure I believe him! How could he have written either scene without feeling what they were? (I don’t mean he’s lying, just that maybe he doesn’t realize how much he poured into these scenes. I can see where that would be easier, maybe even necessary, when creating something so emotional for the snippy, bigoted masses.)
@@monabear7287 From listening to him over the years, I've gotten a very strong sense self-doubt. I think he wrote this as primarily for laughs, but wasn't able to fully appreciate where it could/would go.
“You know people can see you, right?” Such a great scene and that line emphasized David’s growth throughout the series and the connection between him and Patrick. Such a great couple and the way it’s been built so fluidly shows the talent level in the vision for and writing of the show.
he went from being used to terrible and secret relationships with questionable, to being shy and terrified to be pda and conscious with patrick up to this, confident and free-spirited couple-d up person who’s so unafraid to show his happiness
I’m 55, have been watching TV since I was a kid, and this is hands down the best, most amazing, loving thing I have ever seen on a show. The arc of Dan Levy’s character David from such a self-absorbed unself-aware scared guy to what he displays here is just so powerful and moving. Yah Canada for creating this entire show!
I agree totally, same age demographic and this programme has become my go to feel good relief, as you say the character arcs are fabulous esp David and Moira.
I'm a straight woman, and I have watched this video about 14 times! Every time I feel blue or down, I watch this video and it makes me feel like a new person. Can't stop smiling. Thanks!!!!!
@@sigvaldisnr4666 because she wants to show how woke she is...she is straight and can still enjoy 2 gay guys (what a good person- at leasts thats what we all should think)...while in reality it has nothing to do with being woke but like many straight women she is just fetishizing gay men...nothing more
This wrecked me for 3 days. I couldn't sleep. It just replayed in my mind over and over. I have never had a TV show pull my heart from my chest so hard. It is so believable and magical. You know how hard that was for David to do, but everything about it seems so natural between them, because Patrick got to his heart. As a straight ally I hope this helps to normalize love between two PEOPLE!
oh my Lord - this is going to end up being one of the most timeless tv performances. Like you can actually feel his heart LOL... one of the best cultural moments of the decade.
I just watched Daniel Levy speak about this particular relationship and he said that it's simply happening this way. He wants it to be just a "normal" thing and they never bring in the issue of homophobia simply because straight couples never have to justify their love for each other. The David/Patrick thing works because while David is so anxious, Patrick is laid back and the two meet in the middle. It was wonderful to hear David confess that no one had ever taken him seriously before.
I've binged watched all the Schitts Creek episodes over the last 5 days, mebad for not taking this series serious sooner. Simply the Best 1.0 and 2.0 had me in tears, truly both memorable scenes - thank you Dan for bringing this to screen; Patrick's line "you know people can see", like you don't even care, that's love! PS the arms in the air at the end, so perfect.
I got hooked on this show kind of late and now I can't get enough of it. Thanks to CZcams and Amazon I can get a fix now whenever I want. (Is there a ten step program for this addiction?)
I cried the first time watching this. I relate to David the most. seeing him stop being so cynical and putting his true self out there made me so happy for him
I know right? I thought this show was just going to be like surfacey sort of slapstick comedy and yet I got choked up like 4 times in this series. Alexis's graduation, the two Tina Turner song scenes, and the first kiss.
The genius of showing humiliation, sexiness, and nerve make this such a touching scene. Everyone should have someone sing "Simply the Best" to them once. Well done, Daniel Levine.
He’s been so self conscious about this part in a lot of interviews & this scene is what made me fall in love with him. He’s the whole package! Funny, sweet, goofy, & good looking. I love love love this scene!
As great as the first one was, this makes me tear up more than Patrick singing to David. I think it’s just because it feels so out of character for David? Someone who is so image conscious becomes happy to embarrass himself for the man he loves 💘
Just saw this scene for the the first time on netflix and I rewound it so many times. I'm in tears and grooved so hard to this 😭❤ I came here for the positive comments 😍
You need to see a therapist if this scene didn’t grip you from the first note of this song to the end. Personally for me, the sexiest, most emotional love scene I have ever watched, smiles tears and joy. The talent on this show is unsurpassed. When I read that this scene was barely prepared, makes it all the more real. Fantastic show, watching for the first time September 2020.
I am female 73 yrs old. I play this every night. It is the most beautiful scene I have ever viewed . These 2 actors are so convincing a wonderful love story. Wish they would do a series 5 yrs down the track. Daniel Levy is gorgeous.
This is where I came when I heard of Tina's passing. I hope she loved this use of her song as much as we did, all three times, but this one is Simply the Best! ❤💔❤
This scene is one of the reasons why I've been watching this show on Netflix and the scene where Patrick pops the question. Schitt's Creek is hilarious.
I wish this show would never end. We are now finally seeing their character development in ways we never saw in the beginning. David is AMAZINGGG here. You realize you love someone when you are able to dance in front of them goofy and know they are head over heals. This show is a gift.
Love is pure, love is real, love comes in all shapes and forms, LOVE is all that matters in the beginning, the middle and the end, no matter what anyone sayis, all of oss have loved atleast once in our life ❤❤
Patrick & David... my favorite television couple ever! At 2:01 it looks as if Patrick is almost about to tear up. Such a great moment knowing that things are going to work out for the two of them.
RIP Tina Turner, and thank you for giving us this great song. ❤️❤️❤️ Watching Dan and Noah perform to this, it's like I'm hearing it again for the first time. So moving.
I’m a straight man who enjoys every minute of this. Both bits when Patrick sang to David, as well. This one, though, at the end, when Patrick raised his hands in excitement, gets me smiling every time.
I have watched this sooo many times. It makes me happy. I have numerous 'gay friends' - deceased (due to AIDS) and with us that, I cherish. This clip is so pure and beautiful. It makes me cry- not an 'ugly cry' but a loving cry. For those who gave it a 'thumbs down', I can only say - watch it AGAIN with an open mind. God doesn't make mistakes.
One of the most beautiful and lovely couples on tv. Thank you for that tv show. You gave me freedom, courage, peace and love. You gave me energy to keep going in my life.
I adore Schitt's Creek, but this scene alone is a good enough reason to watch this entire show. It is genuinely so fucking good! I think about it all the time, and it still makes me cry. Can't wait for the final season to drop on Netflix.
I have binged watch this show since I found it... I love love love David's character. And love Patrick. They are at their best together. I cried over the episode "Olive Branch". I played it over and over. Everyone should have that chemistry.
David rose is my new crush in this series. Just love their chemistry in this. They make us believe love comes in beautiful ways and at unexpected times.
I genuinely can not choose which is better: Patrick serenading David or David serenading Patrick. They are both such pure, beautiful moments. Patrick's version made me cry because we finally got to see David being loved the way he deserves; but David lip-syncing to Patrick is equally emotional because we get to take that to another level and see David actually ACCEPT that love fully. His walls are down. He is in the incredibly rare situation of simultaneously being immensely vulnerable, yet unquestionably safe. It's such an intimate moment that feels unbelievably authentic despite being a fabricated, scripted scene between professionals. Just the epitome of TV love stories. I find it hard to imagine this could be beat.
David is me whenever I hear this song! Started as a kid ice skating and now even just doing dishes I will stop just to belt out this song in the same way. You can’t help it!
The amount of times I've replayed this scene on Netflix and then again on CZcams is probably unhealthy.
That and a little bit Alexis. I cannot get enough of both those scenes.
Guilty...
