Peter, Paul and Mary - Blowing in the Wind

- Blowin' or Blowing in the Wind info:
"Blowin' in the Wind" is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1962 and released on his album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963. Although it has been described as a protest song, it poses a series of rhetorical questions about peace, war and freedom. The refrain "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind" has been described[by whom?] as "impenetrably ambiguous: either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind".
In 1999, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2004, it was ranked #14 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
-----------------------------------
Peter, Paul and Mary:
Peter, Paul and Mary were an American folk-singing trio whose nearly 50-year career began with their rise to become a paradigm for 1960s folk music. The trio was composed of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers. After the death of Mary Travers in 2009, Yarrow and Stookey continued to perform as a duo under their individual names.
Mary Travers has said she was influenced by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and the Weavers. In the documentary Peter, Paul & Mary: Carry It On - A Musical Legacy members of the Weavers discuss how Peter, Paul and Mary took over the torch of the social commentary of folk music in the 1960s. - Hudba
This is one of the songs that will last forever. I'm listening to this song in April 2024. This song was originally written by Bob Dylan.
So am I. What a great song!
Me too!!!😢😊❤
Great song
Yes we never will know
Yes, it's a beautiful song. Peter Paul and Mary made it famous. 💙
Here in March of 2024, still love this song! It's still important today!
Massive "Ditto" so profound!
so true.
...this masterpiece is what we call 'An Ageless Time Piece'...my kindergarten teacher was a BIG fan of PP&M and played their songs for us at recess, and my favorite was 'Puff The Magic Dragon'. I remember one time Walter Cronkite reported about a helicopter in Vietnam called the same as the song. I was only four years old but I remember vividly.😎✌️☮️
This song should be playing everywhere right now around the world. Peace. ☮️✌️
Especially in the Ukraine!😭
The world is into a rough ride: Most people addicted to: Drugs, orgasm, alkohol, shopping, power, money....Destroys peace, but nobody, especially Bob Dylan (loves money) seems to understand.
And Russia. It is quintessentially an anti conscription song.

The saddest part of this song is that it is needed as much now as it was in the sixties... we have a very hard time learning from our societal mistakes.
Seems like the nearly exact issues 50 some years later.
I believe it's worse now. Big tech has dictated who can comment on issues and forbid those who differ to their value. It's sick and alarming!
Timeless....
We do.
Couldn't agree more. And I'm not a negative person. It is alarming!
I saw Peter, Paul and Mary when they looked like this, I’d forgotten how young they were , but weren’t we all!🎩😄
This is a timeless masterpiece. 200-years from now they’ll still be listening to this after we’re all long gone. 🌬
You are so right..
I agree.
Very accurate. This masterpiece will last as long as life on earth will
That's an understatement! I am listening in 3022 already 😉

So beautiful and so true... no matter what year - this song is a timeless masterpiece!!! 🎶💖🎶
..auf der Beerdigung meines besten Freundes gesungen. Super Song ! Super wahr ! Endless !
A nice song with meaning.
I wish that it weren't, we have learned from history that human beings don't learn anything from history, except how to be stupid. I would love to see the Dove sleep in the sand, but too many would destroy it, just to be proud of being stupid. Today we seen another group of children slaughtered, How many death wiill it take till we know,
That too many people have died....
The answer my friend.....

One of the most beautiful and important songs to have ever been written, and this version by far has impacted me the most. I wish in 2022 we didn’t need these words as badly as we still do….

It's a powerful anti conscription/ miltary song, yet all the world's military expand non more so than in the USA, where money is more important than lives..
Arms deals make money, war is a profitable business for a lot of companies and individuals..
Sadly without wars it's impossible to justify any kind of military and that's a huge money making operation
My dad and I used to sing this together when I was really little, as I'm 14 right now. He died last month, and sobbing to old songs we used to sing while hiking has never felt better
So Sorry About Your Dad But He Had Great Taste In Misic
Beautiful way to honour your Dad's life and memories, by carrying on the song you sang together. He will be there with you somehow, singing along with you, Im sure. Much love to you.

Aww, so sorry🙏🏼
I’m so sorry you’ve lost your father, dad and best friend. Hold onto the memories you made together and pull them out to comfort you when you feel blue. Talk about him at family gatherings and share the love and laughter. It will keep him alive and vibrant in your heart and mind. Much love and virtual hugs coming your way.
Your father may have passed in life, but you're fortunate that he is still alive in your heart/mind. There are probably so many more moments you are fortunate to have shared. Write and share them with your children or others and he will live forever. To me a life remembered is a life that never ends. When born, a physical end is the inherent part of life. But I believe and find peace in a love lived and shared that goes beyond. Thank you mom.
The song is appreciated during Cov -19 pandemic

This song should be played at the Nobel Peace prize awards ceremony when giving out this year award.
WHY ? This song has nothing to do with "peace" ..... then again , the Peace Prize has nothing to do with peace anymore either so I guess it might fit after all .

I'm 66 and I remember the 60's so clearly. Especially this song.
This cover was sang in 1963. Such a very iconic song. Not only music to my ears, but also tears to my eyes. Such powerful lyrics that really hit us rock bottom nowadays. Immortalized voices, timeless composition. I'm 32 now and everytime I listen to this song, I'm always crying. Much power from the Philippines!

The thing about their music is how timeless it is! They sounded awesome together. The message is still relevant today

Only Bob Dylan could write a song so profound, so beautiful, that it will still be relevant and revered 200 years from now. And he was only 21 when he wrote it. Amazing
After living 74 years and going serving my country from 66-69, I have seen a lot of things happen in this country. I managed to get through college on my own, with the help of Uncle Sam and a good wife who worked all her life. I even managed to get a Masters Degree and work over 40 years helping other people. During my life, I have always tried to do my part to make the world a better place but I realize now that will never happen. This is Veteran's Day 2021 and I have received a lot of texts saying "thanks for your service". While I do appreciate the thanks that many show us veterans, my prayer is that no more will have to serve and althought I am proud to have served, I wish that I had not had to. When I see leaders who evaded their sacred duty to serve , I know they really have no clue what it means to owe duty and gratitude to one's nation. It really enforces my belief that when the end comes, America will have long ended. I have never been able to find the word America in tbe Bible yet, but I am still looking. Just as it was during the days of this song, the answer is still blowing in the wind.
I serve 83 to 90 USMC and had some argument with a lady on Facebook telling me I serve for Big Corporation. It's hard to believe folks are out there like that but now really realize what Vietnam Veterans gone thru .

Mary was such a fox back then! She was enchanting to look at & listen to. She provided the feminine counterpoint to harmonies with Peter & Paul that offered a sentimental longing for better days, expressed in her voice and her facial expressions. Together, Peter, Paul & Mary carved a niche as the epitome of Folk Singers, a spin-off of the Blues tradition of emotionally expressing the pains of injustice, separation from loved ones, & hard-luck. There will always be a strain of Americans who feel this deeply, and see the beauty of humanity in Mary's face.
you"ve got a way with words
Amen!
Blowin' and Puff, The Magic Dragon are their two most enduring songs from the early '60s, IMHO. Bob Dylan wrote it, but PP&M nailed it for all time with their version that hit #2 on the pop chart. Rolling Stone named it the 14th Greatest Song of All Time in their Top 500 list.
Well said, Sim. Very well said. I had the great good fortune to see PP&M in concert a while back. Her voice, even at that advanced age, was no different from what we hear on this video. These three were the voice of my generation. I admit to shedding a tear or two upon hearing of Mary's passing.

I saw a news clip when Mary passed away (Can't remember the network) and they just raved about her and the news commentator called her the voice of a generation. They are arguably the best folk group of all time, and (IMHO), they are.
I think the Byrds are but they’re more of a folk rock group. and her voice wasn’t a voice of a generation in my opinion. There are more successful and influential ones than her

Being born in 1951 I was so blessed to be in that generation that saw so much change in music, life and history. There are just sometimes when you know the voices blend and Peter, Paul and Mary ranked up there with Simon and Garfunkel for that kind of "Sound". Folk music gave way to rock and roll and the world moved on but....Please remember that a lot of singers and song writers in those days made their statement to the world. If you know the lyrics.....aren't the questions that they asked still with us today my friends. And I guess we are still asking those same questions. I guess the answer is still....."Blowing in the Wind"

I just want to give a shout out to the bassist on this recording, Richard Kniss, who you can see off to stage left, obscured in shadow, at the end of the video. This is absolutely the definition of great bass playing for this style of music: The bass part never draws attention away from the vocals, but if you start listing for the bass part, you will realize that he is adding a lot to the song, and I guarantee if you took that part away, the performance wouldn't have the emotional impact it does. Mr. Kniss played with PPM for decades, knowing that most of their fans would never know his name. RIP Richard.
I was looking for a comment about the bass player. My thoughts exactly. Their later recordings of these songs without the upright bass just weren't the same.
What a kind and thoughtful tribute.

Tell me about it. All you hear now is violent gangsta rap and dance music.
Life is much better today than in the 60s. Today you have a lot more personal freedom and choice for the type of lifestyle you want to live, and there is a lot less discrimination and a lot more acceptance of different types of people. Yes, the music was a lot better then, but if you took a time machine back to that era, you'd see how restrictive society was, and you'd want to come back right away.

2021 The Covid-19 world. 65 yrs old and this music never ages, Peter Paul and Mary changed the world. Their music will never grow old or die out! Love to all!
I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
I am a teen and I love this 60s music. It just speaks to me so much😍😍
Yes songs had meaning.
I miss Mary Travers, a beautiful and unique voice.
Beautiful alto.
Me too. Before CoVid, Peter and Noel Paul did concerts and the audience would take Mary's parts.
She dressed so modestly and was drop-dead-gorgeous. If only the current 'stars' could follow suit....
And beautiful to look at.
Jazz,You took the words and tears right out of my eyes and heart. When will they ever learn?Oh when will they ever learn?
I grew up listening to Peter Paul and Mary, thanks to my dad. He just died 3 weeks ago, and I will remember him because of this connection
