they were a rookie group, so I can understand they weren't as stable back then as they are now, I'd say later they became one of the most stable kpop groups!
They were so new and didn’t have much stability - glad you pointed out that they learned. For I’ll Be Back, they had to train their singing on treadmills, so that also helped. Their boss, JYP (guy in black in first performance), required them to sing live unless a show said otherwise, which isn’t the most common thing in Kpop, so mics and sound settings aren’t always set up for live (you can hear the difference during music show performances - those groups who sound perfect are often lip syncing).
Performances at awards shows are tough, especially at drama awards - the audience at those always looks dead inside. Actors typically look down on idols. As for music awards shows, the other idols they show are quite likely exhausted
2PM is the group that coined the title "Beast Idols", which means they are very athletic, muscular and toned -- they had/have a much more masculine image then the typical boy group when they debuted. (This year is the group's 15th anniversary.) As you have seen, in their early days they were also known for their B-boy skills and for their tricking. A lot of their early songs have choreography where they were doing a lot of tricks and tumbling, which was something new in the world of Kpop, and it made them unique.
However, over the years they kind of stopped doing all the tricking in their choreography because they realized that they have to be able to perform these dances on music shows and live in concert, etc. and that meant they had to put a lot of extra training in to make sure they could execute the moves well. I remember in the early days, during their dry run rehearsals for music shows, they were always falling or messing up and they would take a lot longer to film some of their performances because they were so stunt heavy.
2PM is a 6 member group made up of members:
> Jun. K who is a main vocalist
> Nichkhun who is a vocalist, rapper and the visual of the group
> Taecyeon who is the main rapper and a vocalist
> Wooyoung who is the the main dancer and a vocalist
> Junho who is a main vocalist and lead dancer
> Chansung who is the maknae, a lead rapper and a lead vocalist.
Fun fact: They used to be a 7 member group which included Park JaeBeom -- Jay Park -- the founder of AOMG, which is one of the most well-known and influential hip-hop music companies in Korea. Jay Park is Korean-American and he originally was the leader of 2PM, but because of some misunderstandings and controversy he left the group about a year after debut and became a solo hip-hop artist and music industry mogul. As a teenager in Seattle Washington, Jay Park was a member of a B-boy dance crew, so his skills as a dancer are where JYP got the idea for 2PM's group concept.
2PM is a JYP group, so their choreography is very JYP-like. If you have ever seen any of JY Park's songs (Park JinYoung -- the founder of JYP Entertainment) you will understand what JYP-style dance is like. JYP is known for his dancing and he has a hand in, not only producing his groups' songs, but he often participates in creating the groups choreography, so you will see his style and influence, especially in the early days, of all of his groups.
2PM's fandom is named Hottest because 2PM is supposed to be the hottest part of the day. And they were actually created as the counterparts to JYP's ballad boy group 2AM. 2AM's fandom is named I AM because 2AM + 2PM = one day and when combined they become "I AM Hottest." The groups were sort of designed to be the polar opposites of each other as part of their concepts.
Fun fact No. 2: 2PM was also one of the very first Kpop groups to have a Thai member. Nichkhun is known as a prince of Thailand.(He's the one that most often has the English lines. Nichkhun and Taecyeon are fluent in English because their families lived in the U.S. for several years when they were growing up.)
2PM debuted in 2008, about a month or so after SHINee, so even though 2PM is a JYP group and SHINee is an SM group, in the early days, 2PM and SHINee appeared on a lot of variety shows together and they were often paired together. So, 2PM and SHINee are fairly close.
On a side note: GOT7, a former JYP boy group that debuted in 2014, originally was created to be the junior version of 2PM. So, GOT7 was supposed to take after them, that's why GOT7 debuted with the song "Girls Girls Girls." It is also one of the reasons why GOT7 members Mark and Jackson trained in martial arts stunting and tricks because JYP was hoping to replicate 2PM's style and skill set.
This was in 2PM's early days so they weren't as experienced and trained as they are now. The conductor dude is JYP himself. Not sure if "magically delicious" is how I'd describe him personally, but okay🤣 Most of the audience that they showed in the video were other idols who were at MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards), so it's understandable that they can't let loose like regular fans.
2PM incorporated a lot of acrobatics and were known for them when they first debuted. For Heartbeat, they would always decide beforehand who would "die" at the end of the song. The guys have gotten older and had many injuries over the years though so they don't really do acrobatics much anymore. If you see Junho sleeveless (or topless😏) in videos after like 2013 or so, you'll notice he has some circular scars on his right shoulder. They're from when he had surgery for a really bad accident during rehearsals. He was doing a flip and landed very badly. Bless 2PM and all their shirtless moments back in the day! My sister was a 2PM stan back then and I got to witness all her flailing with every striptease. Bless them, they really were a breath of fresh air compared to all the boyish idol groups that were around back then.

I hope you give Again & Again and Heartbeat another chance. Those are two of their most iconic songs, and they usually perform them flawlessly live. In fact, their stable vocals while doing insane things is one of my favourite things about them. (See: Junho's big jump in the choreo for their song Hot, only to slide right back into the chorus.) I'm gonna choose to blame the issues on MAMA being MAMA lol.

Yeah their vocals have gotten much more stable with time and as they’ve been allowed to find their own groove as a group. I think a lot of the more scientifically interesting recommendations have been made, but I haven’t seen anyone recommending their performance of “Good Man” at the House Party in Seoul concert which is the performance I felt most personally attacked by. But I’d also put in my rec for Go Crazy! It’s the song that (to me) looks like they’re always having the most fun performing. Also, re: the glowing thing, for more cool lighting effects (as well as a sick party jam) deffo check out the MV for Hands Up.

They did have some microphone issues at the first MAMA Award show in the video and were not the only performers to have poor audio at times. I also think it was their first big performance at any award show. I think you should react to ‘I’ll be back’ rock version since you liked the ending of the last song I’ve attached the link for you. Love Scandal 😂 Khun was dating Tiffany of SNSD back in the day, yes. But that was a few years after these performances ☺️ Miss A was the only 'hyper' over 2PM since they were also part of JYPEntertainment 😁
