    Changing the water pump impeller on my Mercury 20 HP 1996.
    Plus a bonus tip near the end.
    Its a step by step ,long version walk trough.
    I just found out that the little gasket that was over the impeller and the one under are "No Longer Available"...

    The water tube should go into the powerhead first, then put it in the lower unit grommet . That way you know its hooked up right

    Also when you put the top housing back on the shaft make sure it is lined evenly spaced in the housings center hole so it won't rub on the shaft and cause shaft scaring.

    Vidéo trés utile malgré certains raccourcis pris pas son auteur et notés par divers commentateurs. Personneĺlement, j'ajouterais de graisser les rainures (pas le dessus) de l'arbre de transmission pour faciliter sa réinserion dans la tête du moteur et éviter qu'il saisisse dans les années à venir. Finalement, le thermostat ne contrôle uniquement que la circulation d'eau dans la tête du moteur et non pas l'écoulement de l'eau par l'indicateur (pissotière latérale). Bravo ! Les boulons du pied sont serrés à 54 Nm.

    Thxs exactly what I needed to see for my 93 merc 20hp impeller change my impeller is working great I was concerned that the slow and steady telltale stream meant i had a bad impeller but now that I've seen yours running it does exactly the samething as mine yours does a slow dribble then a steady stream then slow then steady so I guess I'm good to go. Does anyone know if the four black grommets in the kit go in between the pump plates or straight through both plates from the top between the washer and the top plate?

    • @rogern5368
      @rogern5368 Před 4 lety

      Good point ! Frenchy didn’t take the plate off so it would have been hard to tell. The grommets appear to be under the plate below the impeller. I believe it’s called a wear plate. I am getting ready to do the impeller complete kit on my 1999 20 hp Mercury I will post a removal and replacement video if I can. No offense but this job was shade tree at best mechanic work. With missing parts he may have issues in the future. My engine btw has never had an impeller change but perhaps after 21 years of service a new one is needed. The engine shows no sign of having water pumping issues but at this age I would hate to be 30-40 minutes out and have it fail.

      @@rogern5368 I did my 18xd after sitting 20+ years. We called it the one jerk Merc before it sat around. The original impeller looked new except it had a crack in one spline from dry rot. Haven't put it back together yet. I'm waiting for the new decals. Good luck with yours. And when you tighten it up don't use too much torque or the plastic bushings will twist and squeeze out.
