Lyrics:
Drifting in a far off place
I roam the countryside
Seeking wings of thought
Waiting in the blind
Enchanted and transfixed
I am pulled into the still
By a backward ticking clock
Held against my will
Illusions turn to dust
Scatter to the wind
Like dreaming while awake
Signals in the mist
Altered state of mind
Stars in the abyss
Transcending time
Midnight in the garden
Digging for a spark
Where seeds of inspiration
Lie buried in the dark
Attention starts to wander
As the poet lifts his pen
And the critic from within
Is silenced once again
Limits leave no trace
Ashes in the rain
Lost and far away
Signals in the mist
Altered state of mind
Stars in the abyss
Transcending time
Signals in the mist
Stars in the abyss
Euphoric obsession
Without conscious intention
Being pulled by the current
On a vessel steered by someone else
Transcending time

Great song, Amazing lyrics 👍👍
Thank you, love you guys
This song literally saved my life.... One year ago my brother and my grandparents died..... When I heard this one, I felt hope!... Thanks Dream theater!... My favourite band ever!!
❤️
Hughs from Argentina david. Peace.
@@nachogiles8541 muchas gracias mi hermano!!! Un abrazo!!
Keep it up brother .
@@fernandolima6335 gracias amigo!!!!
this is the most "Dream Theater" song I've heard from Dream Theater in quite some time.
DT will always be the greatest Prog Metal band ever. Love from India 🇮🇳
I'm from India as well and yes DT is the greatest Prog Metal band of all time! And Greatest over-all Prog Band too standing tall with Pink Floyd
A Dream Theater video just wouldn't be the same without a semi-professional animation, love it!
Haha. Underrated comment. 😂
Bro that fuckin eagle was killin me but that was the only thing lmao
100%
Perfect, huashauuauauauuauaua
@@jju7469 t-posing eagle
Favorite piece on album. Combination of Rush, Yes, Genesis.
Boston and Kansas too!
Did you notice the ending with all the instruments fading out at different times: bass, drums, guitar and then piano. Isn't it brilliant?
Yeah👏👏👏
Similar to In the name of God.
dream theater is brilliant
@@sampadroyy well it's a similar idea, but ITNOG seems more like they instant fade out all instruments but piano (also synth) then the outro. Also the piano was already present when they fade.
Here instead the piano comes in when drums and bass fase out, then the guitar fades, then again the piano fades. Imo is a different effect.
@Sampad Roy
No , not similar to past stuff
I really appreciate James accepting his voice change and not trying to emulate his past self. He sounds AMAZING in this album.
Idk. Kinda sounds the same as the last 4 lol Same presets and all.
@@FanaticDrummer but he's not forcing himself to reach very high note and ended up sounded like a very bad scream
@@FanaticDrummer this has a Six Degrees sorta feel to it. With a little Images and Words mixed in.
@@alieffauzanrizky7202 No which is fine, he no longer has that register so its good he’s restraining it. But theres a certain lackluster feel about the way new music is mixed and mastered. Just lacks power and clarity.
I don't know, he always sounds like on the first album with him... I personally have not noticed any changes. Never. Except that in Awake, his sound was tougher.
really underrated song. Everyone talks about the Alien or Awaken the Master
This song is real earworm.. Great positive vibes.
Dream theater foverer
Dream Theater forever.
The Looking Glass structure = instant love. Lyrically, another bigger picture. Beautiful.
Lyrics by Sheldon Petrucci.
I can't stop listening to this song! That ending riff proving once again that 7/8 can be catchy as hell :)
Gotta love that final unresolved chord. Beautiful song from a killer album.
I love how Mr. Mike Mangini sounds ❤️
One of the most iconic and Rush-ispired tracks from "A View from the Top of the World". Hats off!
I felt the same. Rush-esque song.
My fav song in this album
best song of the year!no doubt.Memory of Rush RIP Neil Peart my fav drummer.
Gives me a nostalgic 80’s feeling. One of my favs from the new album!
Exactly!
A strong 'Journey' vibe for me on this one with the chord progression.
Shades of Rush
@@fieryredpodcast Time Stand Still. I reckon this song is a subtle tribute to Neil Peart.
Love this album too... DT will always be in my heart...
Mike "The Man" Mangini!
What a joy to have Synth solos that sound like a synth and not like a guitar. 👍🏻✌🏻
That melody is just nice to the ears
I didn't see that coming. It really feels like something recorded between the late 90's and the early 00's. Great uplifting vibe. Beautiful guitar tone. James' vocals are amazing in this tune.
This actually sounds 70s, specially a mix between Rush and Boston
@@HansfordCrousehow is anything he just said an insult to either band?
5:23 - 6:25 that ending though!! Mangini's playing shines in this song❤️
I agree Shoubir. I also think that Myungs bass stands out during that time period.I wish he would "stand out " a little more often. He is a great bass player but too shy . GO FOR IT JM!
they say that this album is where mangini belongs he shines the brightest here, the entire album
Vote for Mangini - those drums sounds AWESOME!
2022 masih berkarya dan luar biasa...diantos kasumpinganna di Indonesia.
about 10 years ago, I became prog metal fan by DT.
I want to say thank you DT, I always looking for and sometimes found new grate prog metal bands, because I understood prog metal is just for me by the band's amazing music.DT is forever.from 🇯🇵
Bridge in the sky parte 2 😍
Saludos de chile 🇨🇱
This album finally sounds like the next generation Dream Theater we all been waiting for! It is so good! And finally it makes me NOT miss Mike Portnoy behind the drums! Top work from all the guys.
Thank you all!
Yeah
Agreed... all members kicked it up a notch. Or two... sounds much more organic.
Totally agree!
Mike Portnoy is a Signature of DT forever....!!!!
Nah this made me miss portnoy on drums more
The INTRO is something else... One of Jordan's best performance for sure
The outro is also very moving. Some transcendental quality to it, no pun intended.
Did you know that he made an album with speedway blvd. In 1980. You can hear it on youtube. Real good.
Listening to DT always makes me feel good. It's a bit of nostalgia and a bit of just pure appreciation of musical mastery, but it still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to anything of theirs.
Ikr!
Amen brother
My favourite on the new album. It's uplifting with a hint of nostalgia.
I’m stoked for Oakland, DT.
Sonic bliss, start to finish. Performance, lyrics, music, mix - all perfect. Definitely a new #1 favorite right above Blind Faith and Take The Time.
3:06 gives me goosebumps!!
This song has both Rush and vintage Dream Theater vibes going on at once. One of my favorite tracks from the new album.
Also, that pre-chorus is so good!
For ever dream is best off
Mangini era is the only DT stuff I enjoy.
Gonna miss ya, MM.
You've given me so much inspiration through these years with DT. It's been awe inspiring, the highest level of music I've ever heard.
Love ya, and thank you.

Love this song, it really seems like a through back too Images and Words. I hope they play this one live, it will be a nice mellower break and yet is a killer song with one of John's best, and oddly most rocking solo's. This song just makes me smile.
My favorite song now
wow... love it! feels like magic of early dream theater - fantastic lyrics and overall amazing
I agree . I miss the beautiful and technical song days from Images and Words.!
One of my favorite songs on the album. The vibe is an homage to the old days, but the new techniques shine through! I love the mix and the bass line. James sounds amazing!
Awesome song. I just wish the video showed the band playing. Good thing I have tickets. ;-)
Best song on the album and best from song from DT in probably a decade so of course it's not in the live set....ugh.
Totally feels like a Rush tribute which makes it even better.
Dream Theater never fails to amaze me. What a gr8 song. Now & Always it's Dream Theater.
A beautiful song.
traaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanscending tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime 🤘🤘💜
Today I rode my bike back from work listening to this beautiful tune and wondering how life can be great if you keep your mind in a good place and let time do its magic (transcend). Then I get home and see this awesome gift to finish my day the best possible way! Thank you, DT, I'm sure your legacy will transcend all barriers of time!
One of the best and most catchiest songs on this record.
The sound vocal harmony like Uptown Girl
Top band 🎸🎤🥁🤘
Can Not wait to see you guys in a few months!!
My aviation nerdish is showing. The feather movements of the eagle are dang near as mesmerizing as your music. You guys ROCK.
I always get some Red Barchetta vibes when listening to this song.

Another fantastic piece music
One of your best songs.Brings me to tears.
As a drummer myself - OMG, Mike Mangini's playing is amazing. THANKS
DT genius, super musicality and super peoples, love at first sight
One of their best songs
Another addition to playlist.
Always awesome.
This sounds absolutely RUSH ! Brilliant 👏 stuff
Wonderful song! Copied the original CD for the car. No car ride without DT! An incredibly good CD/album! 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
They never disappoint. Been a longtime fan since the beginning.
I admire your loyalty. I was a huge fan until Portnoy was gone. I tried, with Mangini, but the last two shows were a struggle for me. Things change.... I am just glad that I was there from the beginning, and we got to take that amazing ride, with them. This tour, in a few weeks, will be the first one I miss. I am just a casual fan, now, and followed Portnoys journey, instead. I feel like Sons of Apollo has more appeal, now, like my dream theater part two. I'd never insult DT. I just did not make the transition like you did.
Amazing!!!!
Dream Theater Indonesia mana suaranya 🇮🇩
my New morning booster , cant wait to enjoy the show at Solo Indonesia @august 2022
Just released and I am really enjoying their music.
Hugs from Brazil.
Wanted this. Didn't expect this. Thank you.
This isn't heavy metal, but happy metal
Loving that bass line!
Excellent unintentional RUSH tribute all around....All instruments. Great work guys.
This song is so good
This song will always hold a special place in my heart as my first DT song.
Really great cymbal work throughout
Listening to Mangini, but imagining Neil Peart playing those drum lines.
I can "see" his expressions, camera shots of his drum kit, ... Wow!
I really hope the whole album gets played on the tour! 🙏
This is the reason I loved Dream Theater to begin with. As much as I admire their technical prowess - In the Name of God and This Dying Soul are two of my favourite DT solos - their melody is what drew me to them. That's probably why I miss Moore's contribution to the band; his melodies were incredible.
Simply beautiful
As always. Dream Theater delivers. A brilliant video with a brilliant song. Thank you!
Continue to be impressed by the kind of music DT continues to churn out. My favourite group. Greetings from Papua New Guinea.
Good job, meaningfull & creative; INDONESIA ❤
Cant wait to see you coming into indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
wow. DT is always awesome
Вы мои любимые!!!!!
Minha favorita do álbum. Me traz uma sensação boa. Forte influência da banda rush.
Nos primeiros acordes também veio o Rush na cabeça.
Concordo! 👌🏼 Fiz a cover do instrumental desta musica na bateria, e é algo simplesmente genial! Composição e feeling de loucos 🤯👏🏼👏🏼

Every dream theater track is perfect
Nos vemos no Rock In Rio ♥ the best
This is the DT I loved way back in the days of Images, Awake and A Change of Seasons. I lost track after Scenes. But this hits home. Nomen est Omen.
This song and album in general, it feels like Mike Mangini got more freedom to experiment and use the whole kit. He simply sounds great, and has lots of personality in his playing.
In general I always loved the way Dream Theater had this variety in drum kit sound. Unlike many other bands, where perhaps the drummer was more talented than Portnoy, but the drums in general sounded uninspiring because they had their drum kit was quite limited. Despite having a lot of drums, they would use 10% of their kit most of the time. And several rock/metal drummers also suffer from having zero dynamics, meaning that they would hit every single drum and cymbal with the same intensity, making it all sound monotone.
Mangini when he just joined DT suffered from this at first, despite Mangini being an extremely talented drummer. In part it is the mixing, but most of it is Mangini as well. He uses so much more of his kit now, and plays with the dynamics. It makes it all sound more loose and with more personality. I think it is the reason people said he sounded like a drum machine, not because he was bad but because he lacked lots of dynamics. But now, I do not think anyone can se he sounds robotic in here, in fact it is the oposite.
In this album, he sounds awesome, he has always been an amazing drummer, this was just the piece that was missing. You can hear everything here, how he chooses an specific drums for a part of the song, and then another, how he goes through a variety of cymbals. It has a lot of ghost notes, and each hit has a deliberate amount of weight to it to give variety in volume. In general it seems like Mangini is having more space to express himself, and I love it.
Again, not to trash Mangini, because this is something that happens with most drummers, specially in metal and rock.
👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Mike Mangini is the BEST Drummer in the world right now in my opinion!
Mangini ROCKS!
🤘🏻
Would you believe that I own a pair of his drumsticks? Real, used, scratched from cymbals drumsticks directly from his hands? 😆😆😆👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My friend who was in stage crew at Woodstock Poland Fest 2015 got them for me just after the show ended.
Very, very rare stuff. Even if someone gets a drumstick (even if!) - he gets ONE.
And I got a PAIR from specific show 😆🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
@@MisQot 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Interesting point.
Maybe today's drummers get taught in music school to play "tastefully", like a funk drummer, and stick mostly to the snare, kick, and hi-hat - even when playing metal, which is all about overdoing it. Whereas Portnoy's drumming heroes would have been Peart, Bonham, Bruford, Phil Collins, probably Buddy Rich - guys who played a lot, but made it fit the song.
beautiful. the best song in the album.
This song and the title track are my favorites from the new album, hope you play both on the upcoming tour 💙
Full easy listening and melody
