    • @brycepoole7697

      Hmmm, probably a SmallHD monitor, or SmallRig camera cage. It can be so hard to gauge focus on those tiny in camera screens, (especially outside!) the SmallHD has saved the day so many times for me!

    It's amazing that this is the most thoughtful, entertaining, engaging video review with some of the lowest views. I appreciate your effort/skill pre/post production with a sub. AND I HATE SUBSCRIBING! But videos like this always remind me of Captain Disillusion.

    Shoulder rigs are essential imo. Maybe mention that this one is less than $100 without the follow focus ring and matte box, bc that's definitely a selling point. I've got a Smallrig which is similar in alot of ways.

  • @KevinMullarkey

    Another advantage of using a shoulder rig as opposed to handheld is that it makes it look like a 'proper' video camera and not a stills camera. I've lost count of the number of times I have had to tell the people I am filming at events that it is video and not a photograph when they take the 'still pose' when i point the camera at them!

    Growing up I watched Smokey and The Bandit three times at the movies so the opening sequence was very funny. Neewer are selling a foldable shoulder rig which folds up into a small carry size and it is slightly cheaper but I have not seen a review on that yet but your review on the focus feature looks great cause a couple of years back I bought one of them focus clamps but never had success using it on its own but with a rig like this it would work

    • @Film_It_Yourself
      @Film_It_Yourself  Před měsícem

      Hey there! You could probably put one on the hot shoe of your camera or get a camera cage and put it on there. There isn’t a place to attach a light directly to the shoulder rig.

    I liked your review. I still dunno If I should buy this shoulder rig or a ronin s...I mean, sure ronin is more stable but not the best option with my BMPCC4K, this might be better for it...I dunno.

    • @Film_It_Yourself
      @Film_It_Yourself  Před 4 lety +1

      Oooh both those are really cool! I've been wanting both for a while! I think it'd work great for the BMPCC4K, but definitely won't be as smooth as the ronin. It's great if you want that handheld look without killing your shoulder though!

    • @Film_It_Yourself
      @Film_It_Yourself  Před 2 lety

      Hey there! I’m not quite sure what you’re talking about, but if you mean the matte box then yes it’s removable. You can adjust the position of all of the pieces except for the distance the rails are apart from each other. The matte box and follow focus are removable. Hope that makes sense!

    How easily can I go from rig to tripod? Can I use my tripod quick release plate on this rig or does it have to be a Neewer compatible tripod?

    • @Film_It_Yourself
      @Film_It_Yourself  Před rokem

      Great question! The shoulder rig has a quick release plate that’s probably compatible with some tripods but not all. For example, it looks similar in size and length to the longer Manfrotto ones but I personally haven’t tested it out. But the quick release plate does make it easy to swap to a tripod plate, but you’d have to unscrew the Neewer quick release plate. Hope that helps!

    • @jameskeen8331
      @jameskeen8331 Před 10 měsíci

      Screw a tripod release plate to the base makes setting up a lot easier and means you can drop it onto a tripod. Or use a tripod head on your grip trolly for setup.

    Unfortunately, there is no explanation on how to change the gear that is on the follow focus assembly, there are several sizes given to fit different camera barrel widths. The gear that is attached to the follow focus knob is too large and I wish to change it to a smaller gear. It appears to be pressed on and needs to be pulled off. I would like to try it but am afraid I will break the plastic.

    • @Film_It_Yourself
      @Film_It_Yourself  Před rokem

      Hey Julian, the knob works with various different sizes and comes with an adjustable band that you can put on your lens if the size doesn’t work for you. You shouldn’t need to take off the gear at all. I’ve used it with cine lenses as well as photo lenses and it’s worked just fine.

    • @julianosterhaus4694
      @julianosterhaus4694 Před rokem

      @@Film_It_Yourself Umm hey! The lens gear is not the issue in my case. The issue is the gear that is controlled by the follow focus knob. It is too large and I have to replace it with a smaller one. The diameter of the barrel of my lens is too large and the follow focus gear will not allow me to place the camera on the rig. To repeat, the gear controlled by the follow focus knob is too large. Neewer has supplied several other smaller gears in anticipation of this problem, I was just wondering if anyone has ever replaced that gear. Guess not. Hey, maybe I'll do a video on that!

    • @Film_It_Yourself
      @Film_It_Yourself  Před 2 lety +1

    Awesome vid - awesome channel. Def gonna subscribe! Ive been considering this shoulder rig but had a question about the hood/mattebox..how large is the opening? I shoot mostly using 67mm lenses and am concerned they won’t fit the hole

    • @Film_It_Yourself
      @Film_It_Yourself  Před 4 lety

      Thank you! Oh good question! According to the amazon listing for it, people are saying it fits up to 62mm lenses, so sounds like it might not fit your's. 🙁But here's the listing if you want to check it out: amzn.to/30M61Y8 I'll try to double check that and get back to you!

    • @Film_It_Yourself
      @Film_It_Yourself  Před 4 lety

      Oh you know what might work for you though? You could get the shoulder rig without the matte box and instead get this matte box that's about the same price: amzn.to/37KYGd3 According to that amazon link, it says this one is 85mm diameter.

    • @Film_It_Yourself

      Hi Spencer, the review isn't for the camera, it's for the shoulder rig. There is broll showing it in use at 0:28, 0:57, and again at 4:14. If you want to see even more footage shot with it, you can check out my short Infectious here: czcams.com/video/O7OkAkvG64c/video.html. While this shoulder rig is not top of the line, it's a really great low budget option, which is what my channel is all about. I've personally used it on several short films and even paid professional shoots and have always been happy with it, but gear is always a personal preference. I just strive to offer indie filmmakers great low budget options that won't break the bank, and I stand by this shoulder rig as being one of them. Sorry it didn't work out for you!
