Does anyone else start out saying "I'm just gonna do a simple soft glam" and then get carried away with a green pink duo chrome carnival look.
yes and I just commented asking for help with that lol I don't wanna go to work looking like I should be at the club
That really made me laugh out loud. Been there!
I did it just yesterday with a red and dark brown smoky eye inspired by an old MCR video 😂
@@BlueberryCrisis *shakes fist at Danessa Myricks and her gorgeous liquid liners and shadows*
I’m the opposite. I wanna do something creative but I end up doing something soft and simple because I’m too lazy and always late
this is such a nice reminder that make up is just a fun little way to enjoy your time. no need for stress
My best makeup days are when I don’t overthink it and kind of rush. When I sit down and really take my time, I find that It looks worse
Mine looks better when I do it in poor lighting then look at it in better lighting afterwards lol
@HRae87, same here. My lighting sucks, but outside, it looks amazing ❤
after all these years, alex is still being hella patient with us
I think the best tip I can add is to keep your makeup brushes clean, washing them long before they get gnarly. I always think my makeup looks best when my brushes are clean, but I am also very prone to procrastination when it comes to cleaning them. It really sucks to sit down to do your makeup and realize your brushes are overdue for a cleaning.
literally did my makeup for a night out over the weekend and was like “wow, i kinda hate this” haha so this is perfect!
also, would you consider doing a video where you do everything except foundation and undereye concealer for us girlies that like to go low-no coverage but still add a little liner and lashes and stuff on the daily? i feel like it’s hard to add stuff to my eyes when i don’t add coverage-y stuff to the rest of my face too, but i don’t always want to add coverage-y things to my face, especially in the hot summer - if that makes any sense? also, sometimes i just want to embrace my dark circles haha
YES, I so agree! I love mascara and lip products, but hate wearing base products. But I think the only two products look weird without some kind of coverage? I would love some help in this area!! ❤
agreeeeee! especially when i go into work and then everything melts off at the end of the day bc weather/humidity or in general just being hot
I agree when it's hot it just mixes with sweat and clogs pores. Gross. I stopped wearing foundation everyday for like 5 years now and skin has never been better. Embracing what you have got is the way forward. However, two things I love - eyebrows and mascara. That's it.
I’ve been working on that too- my sunscreen has a tint and I have a more sheet tint like foundation and that definitely helps. I’m very blonde and pale so when I just do lashes and eye brows (can’t skip brows with invisible ones like mine) thing look a bit unbalanced unless I have some kind of tin on.
If you haven’t tried Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Base, I think it will achieve what you’re looking for. It’s a mineral powder that doesn’t look powdery and gets better as the day goes on with a soft focus subtle sheen. As much or as little coverage as you want.
I think the beauty industry is in a bit of a rut overall. I can't remember the last time I was excited about a product, everyone is busy duping everyone else. My makeup today will be pink and green because I saw a picture that reminded me how much I love that color combo this time of year.
My thoughts EXACTLY!!!
So it’s just not me? Lol. I thought I just was strange. I like my makeup one day & literally hate it the next. I swear our minds play tricks on us. One day I look into the mirror & like what I see & another day I say, “Oh my do I look bad!!!” 🤪😂
Seated, taking notes, class in session 👩🏽🏫📝
This video sounds a lot like a LESSON PLAN, Alex! A TED talk is actually a good idea. You're a born teacher, and I've learned so much from you. Always learning so I know I'm alive.
Yes! I always start my makeup by assessing what my objectives are. Such as does this need to be long lasting? Do I want an eye or lip focus?
A tip I would add, is once you have applied your makeup (bronzer, contour, blush etc) take a large fluffy clean brush (I just use my powder brush) & buff over the whole face. This takes away any harsh lines & blends everything together. Whenever people say my makeup looks nice I swear that's the only difference, that I do that step to ensure it's all blended. Especially being pale bronzers can look a little harsh, doing this step just softens everything!❤
Alex droppin' some real wisdom here: Pick a night when you have nothing else going on and play around! Not only can you practice new (or old) techniques, you can also figure out how to fix something when it doesn't go as planned. I think younger folks who grew up with online tutorials are so afraid of "doing it wrong" that they're missing out on all the opportunities to FAFO. FAFO can be a really positive thing when the stakes are low.
Remember: doing something right usually happens after having done something wrong a bunch of times first. Practice makes perfect. Blah blah blah.
(Yes, I know I need an editor for these long-ass comments. I'm old.)
Right now I'm in an era where I feel super inspired to create makeup looks, but often times I end up looking a little bit on the heavy side for day-to-day work makeup, so I either go to work looking a little bit too "dressed up" or wearing no makeup at all in fear of doing too much and missing the mark of a fun little bright enhancing (this aspect is exacerbated by the fact that I work on and off camera and we all know camera makeup has to be heavier). I would love a video with tips on how to "tone down" different aspects of your makeup once you've done a little bit too much or a little bit heavy handed. Like removing elements or muting them once the makeup is complete, to make your look softer. LOVED this video btw
The practice is key! Especially if I'm trying a new look, palette, or bold colors. I do it on a random weeknight before bed to just wash it off and troubleshoot and have fun. Also I think understanding what works for you means you enhance what you've got versus blindly following a trend or buying a product or using techniques that are best suited for non-hooded eyes, etc.
I don't wear makeup everyday but I love it. I'm 58 and my needs are different. I also wear glasses - contacts are not an option. I'm blind as a bat with out my glasses, so fancy wings are not happening. I have also realized I look better without concealer, like, at all. I love a good pore filling tinted spf all in one situation. I love watching you and your ideas. I have started to experiment just before face washing to try out new techniques on your advice. Love it.
She has an older tutorial for fun eye looks with glasses!
Not hating my makeup… I’m in! I just gave myself permission last night, as a matter of fact, to not have to ever wear foundation again as long as I live if I don’t want to. I don’t have to wear foundation just because everyone else is and just because I’m old. I’m not olive, but I have discovered that I do have a skin tone that’s hard to match. Why torture myself trying zillions of foundations, when I don’t like the way it feels, anyway, and I’m much happier and more comfortable using a glowy primer as foundation or wearing only sunscreen with a dusting of powder over it. yay!🎉
Yes to this! I agree. I hate foundation. I only wear mascara, eyebrows and of course SPF moisturiser most days.
@@glittergoat91 as much as I prefer my Lisa Eldridge foundation over any other, I find these days I dread putting it on! I will use it up, but after that, I’m not sure I will replace it. Over the winter I really enjoyed using just her highlighter all over the face with no foundation over it, just bronzer and blush or whatever I chose to do that day. It felt so good and looked lovely! Hooray for a more natural base, if that’s what a person enjoys!😊
And by the way, the RMS glowy sunscreen is absolutely beautiful on its own as a base!
I feel inspired by this comment. Zero sarcasm to be clear. ✌️🌻
@@awaitingSaint777 thank you! I appreciate that very much!
Girl, your videos are always right on time and right on point. I'm four weeks into my tretinoin journey, so hating my makeup has been a real thing lately. I will implement some of these steps when I can. Having two little kids means I can't dedicate the time I used to to getting ready, but I still love the process.
Wow… this is the video I didn’t realize I needed till I watched it. Was just finishing my makeup, getting ready to go out to dinner… all black outfit (my Johnny Cash look) and I did some neutral makeup and was wondering why I looked blah even though I technically did a good job. I watched this video and… Oh yeah… switched to a red lip and that made ALL the difference!! Thank you, Alex. You’ve saved me yet again!! ❤❤
Love this pink and brown on you. You have a tutorial with pink and brown that I have saved and used often.
Oh, so happy to hear you go back to it! 🩷
Which one please? It’s my favorite look and I don’t have a pink eye shadow even close in my bag.
@@kt9495yes I’d love to know too!
Today your eye look is totally inspiring me. I had just finished prepping my skin and laying out my products when the notification came in for this video, and I instantly switched out my eye makeup products. Thank you for the inspiration! I feel pretty today.
I love that you have said "Take extra time ". Make up should be fun and something to enjoy. Sure we may not always get it right but you know you have nailed it when people say how good you look.
That duo chrome pink/blue eyeshadow is FABULOUS!
I have contact dermatitis and hay-fever at the moment, so with the puffy irrirated eyes and flaky skin I am definitely not loving my make up at the moment 😔, so I'm feeling this video right now!
Hey, how are you now?
Skincare/prep, Xtra time & playing around/practice...3 things that have helped me exponentially!
I love your delivery!
You are a ridiculously pretty human.
Yes. Yes she is. A lot of women (*cough* me *cough*) cannot pull off a cropped pixie, but I swear to you, this woman's face was MADE for this cut. It's absolutely stunning.
Omg you're so funny but informative and just a pure joy to watch. ❤
I love when you get philosophical about make up. This is a pick me up I needed
I really needed this. Recently finished chemo and radiation and for some reason, I feel like my entire Ph balance and skin changed so much. Now getting back at doing my makeup once im healing Im dealing with extra sweaty underarms and oily skin and i NEVER had that problem before🥺 So Ive been feeling very blehhh about myself and especially my makeup. Not to mention how my hair is barely 2 centimeters long so I cant do shit to it either, just a messy part of recovery for cancer patients that no one talks about. But thank you, Alexandra, for your informative content!!! I love you babes❤️
this video is so helpful! I wish more brown/black makeup artists/enthusiasts would make videos like this one
I experiment with eye makeup before I get ready for bed pretty often. Thanks for the video!
Same! It’s a great time to try out colours!
This aging process is really throwing me for a curve. I'm having to relearn how to deal with and treat redness and sun damage. I find myself really applying more and more layers. With summer almost here I really need to get this under control
the colored background is back!!🙌
it looks so soothing
Ok, I am a massive lurker but I finally made a channel out of my account so I could comment lol. Anyways. I LOOOVE that you are giving people the tools to improve and make their own looks; talking about warms and cools, shapes, goals. People can take these tips and not be beholden to following someone's exact tutorial with their specific palette (unless they want to). You're awesome
Thank you, Alex. I needed this pep talk!
Appreciate all the reminders, suggestions, insights! So helpful.
Always practical and useful advice with a touch of humor!!!
🩷
I needed this talk. Thank you❤
the MOST interesting conversationalist at the top of the morning w/ pre-roll I LOVE this!
I'm loving my make up lately thanks to you!
Gentle! That's the key!
Here to say that I LOVE your videos with a simple monochrome background! I can see your beautiful face and makeup so much more clearly! Clearer? Clearlier? You know what I mean! 😂
I love your honesty and humor. Keep making your videos.
Love your videos and tips. She's right. Perfect the prep/base and your makeup will be gorgeous.
I needed this! Thank you 🙏🏼
I for real needed to hear this! THX
You've inspired me so much... I found your channel at the end of last year and you have CHANGED the game for me when it comes to loving my face and makeup
You always look amazing! Always have great advice for us girls . Thank you
100% agree with the suggestion to experiment and play around. I love trying out ideas/colours/looks for events beforehand, that way the day of is not my first rodeo, and I know which products to reach for tonachive my desired look. Always love Alex's vids.
Merci Alexandra pour tous ces bons conseils. Super vidéo😍😍😍
I love love love your makeup today !!! Would love a tutorial
The fact that you have a video for each reference is sending me!!!!❤
I needed this! I’ve been in a rut of just doing skin prep, highlighter and lips but love my makeup and need to start waking up early to do it again!! ✨
Hi Alex! Those are really nice tips, thank you!
I feel like we defs needed this!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Hope it helps 😘
@@AlexandraAnele definitely!! especially for dry/acne prone skin!!
Such a great video, love the recommendation to make time for ourselves in sense of prep and application and to make time to play with products and looks more generally. 🙌🏻
Love this reminder ❤
Excellent video, thank you!!! 🙌🏽
This video is so encouraging ❤
Also your makeup is amazing. Might be the best look from you I’ve seen!
I love how real she is ❤ naturally beautiful inside and out ❤
Hey girl ! Your 100 % right..the more you practice the better you get. My aunt taught me to put on makeup when I was just 7 or 8 years old and I am 44 now. I love doing my makeup and my skin care it brings me peace. But again you are right about the skin care or he proper skin care your makeup is not going to do for you what you needed to do. Again I absolutely love your videos please don't ever stop doing them and giving us this amazing tips. Much love from North Carolina.
I would love a video focusing on how to mix warm and cool toned makeup or how to use vibrant colors on muted skintones
I have been feeling this way recently, great timing.
Agree with taking time. When I go to work, I have a very simple, non experimental routine. However, the weekend is my time to take my time and enjoy my makeup process.
You have the most beautiful skin I have ever seen! 😍
Every video I think to myself gosh so informative. Everytime 😂 but seriously I love your videos. See where your skin is at each day so you don't hate your makeup!! This has to be the best advice I've ever heard. Thank you a million girl xo
Growing up, I always blamed my rut/not liking my make up on my lack of skills. Thank you for making this video.
Another video on how not to hate your face, please 😭😭
❤I really like these talk/tips sessions❤
Thank you for sharing with us❤
The vibes you give from sharing your knowledge, as well as how much you enjoy the entire process; are confidence boosting and reassuring that it should be fun 💙
🥹😭🙏🏼
This is great advice in general. I definitely do all stages while doing artwork but I never thought doing the same with my makeup.
this came at such a right time for me. Thank you
Thank you 🙏🏼!!!!
I'm not going to lie, I love the colors on your eyes. 👀 👀
Thank you! I filmed it 😉
This is exactly what I needed to hear, great advice, Alex! I never practice looks, I simply imagine what it would look like in my head but because they're mostly techniques I have never used before therefore have no idea on how to apply correctly and to my liking. So I seemed to have developed a default look, just switching it up with different lip colours! And because I don't wear foundation, do I still need to think about bronzing, contouring and highlighting? You make it look all so effortless and with stunning results, thank you for trying to educate me! 💜
Thank you for the precious advices. My make up is better since I watch your channel. I love the eye brow pen l&s from nyx make me happy. Step by step even the skin is better. So a deep thank.
the things you mentioned normally go unspoken/ are assumed but putting language to it all is like detangling a ball of strings. super helpful 💖
I really love your videos, it's always so refreshing hear such good tips that really help to improve our skills on make up. Cheers from Mexico 🇲🇽 🎉😊
Took me until i was 35 to understand that using less is better when it comes to foundation/face makeup lol. Skincare and prep is the key to successful make up, you are bang on... that also took me until I was 35 to understand lol. You are so cool n calm it's admirable and makes watching you so easy and enjoyable.... you're just awesome 🤩
Such an amazing and useful video, thank you Alex ❤❤ From an eyshadow look lover a cool tip I use is try the blending on my arm before I put it on my face so I am sure I have the result I want
Thank you for the chemical exfoliant tips. I've definitely noticed I need that as part of my routine. I'm focusing on skin care (a mix of CosRx, Beauty of Joseon, and La Roche Posay) because if I try to use foundation, it gives me old lady forehead.
Thank you, I enjoyed this video.
Your eyes are always stunning but these colors!! I couldn’t find it listed can you plz share? 🙏🌸
I LOVE just taking my time. I love throwing on a YT video, like this and just enjoy it.
It’s literally the best, therapeutic
Light Emotions when you made your makeup, Inspired me :)
I was stunned to see this post today! I have been going through the "hating your makeup" thing for about two weeks and yesterday and today have been the worst! I actually felt like giving up on it all together. Lo and behold the guru of makeup and beauty - you! - posted this video! Thank you so much! Your suggestions are spot on. I am in a difficult place with my sunscreen and foundation. My go-to sunscreen was discontinued and I still haven't found a good replacement. Thank you so much for your suggestions, tips and wisdom!!! You gave me hope that I will figure this out! :)
Ughhh, that’s my nightmare. Finding a new sunscreen is so difficult. I hope you find a good replacement soon! 🙏🏼🩷🩷🩷
Thanks Alex for a great video and reminder to take time for ourselves! 😅 You are my favorite Makeup artist for a reason ❤️ it's ok to make mistakes, makeup is fun ,so many things I can relate to. I have had some major issues with my makeup creasing lately not sure what I'm doing wrong 😮 have an amazing day Peace from Canada 😊
I do hate my makeup right now, because my eyes get irritated and red. 😭 It's not due to allergie. I hope creamproducts instead of powders will help. 😢
Love your makeup in this one, could you share the eye look and products. This video gave me a lot to think about when going in with makeup ❤
Your hair is always so gorgeous 😍 could you please do a pixie styling video for us pixie cut ladies!?!?!
Can you talk about the difference between drugstore and high-end makeup, and which makeup products are worth investing in?
I clicked because I haven't been feeling all that great about my art either lately. But this is really helpful! I may not exfoliate before I draw, but it's still a good idea to be more intentional about my work surface and process. And taking my time! Having a singular objective like you said at the beginning is probably my main takeaway. I think I've been too general, wanting the piece to just "be good" at the end, not really thinking about a single, specific thing I want to come out right.
Thanks for the practical art block advice, hope you triumph through it too ❤
Hey Alex! I was wondering if there’s a way to make dark purple eye shadows not look gray on me? Also….can you do a video testing out the new Urban Decay Face Bond foundation? I would love to get your input on it. Another possible video idea: show us an eye look using only eye shadow pencils, crayons, liquids, etc. Thanks! Love your videos!
Thanks, I picked a shape, color and new Fondation to focus on. Had a better day.
Happy to help! ❤️
Awesome tips Alex! One of my fav parts of going out for dinner or to a party is the two hours I spend doing my makeup. 😂
Looove the Lisa Eldridge Lipstick pendant ❤ 💄 ❤ 💄 ❤
great tips, I definitely play at the end of the day or pre - shower, it's a great way to play and learn.
ATM I've mostly been loving my makeup, noticing its better when it's lighter and subtle enhancement. But I'm still practising heavier, darker looks too :D
Today my friend said I looked great and I swear it’s not because I got sleep, I just spent an extra ten minutes on my skincare 😅
You are just amazing
Yay my favorite creator ❤🎉
Alex, can you do a short moisturizer tutorial on recommend products? Eyes and face moisturizer products.
