    Hey man. Musician and instrument lover here, I’ve seen that piano in a few of your videos and I beg you not to throw it away. It’s probably over a hundred years old, just like the house, which makes it very valuable as an antique. It’s in very bad condition but I’m certain that there are piano technicians wherever you are, who are willing to restore it. Please send it to a piano service for the sake of preserving a piece of music history.

The farm house still has rock and trees as beams in the basement. The barn is all mortise and tenon joints. It is easy to criticize someone on the internet. The strange part about that is that those criticizing someone took the time to record, document and then share it to the world, they would likely become the criticized for one reason or another. After having done a few rehabs myself, I probably would have done a couple things differently than you have chosen. But at the end of the day, I am also learning things from you that I could potentially apply the next time I have a rehab project. I follow this series religiously. I love the rythm of the videos. Normal then speed up portions then bits of quiet when you decompress. My fear of heights would make working on literal floating boards rather nightmarish. I keep loving the interior of this house a lot. Take care of your health people & furry friends. 💙 from France.

    Using synthetic winch rope to replace the pull-start rope on that engine was a good idea, you have a smart/common sense buddy. Solving problems and improving tools, equipment, rigs and so on is an opportunity, it's helpful and it's wise. ;)

    • @99Projects

      Yea I thought that was a great idea

    • @numberyellow
      @numberyellow Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@99Projects Conversely, with a very small amount of modification, you could just remove the pull-start assembly, and start the engine with any cordless drill, then you'd never need to worry about the rope breaking ever again. The only downside to that, is if you find yourself in a situation where you don't have a cordless drill available.

    The thing that amuses me most about your work relationship is you two are in sync after (I'm sure) many discussions about how this is going to be done and NO arguments (at least not on screen) and still you have fun together and can laugh. Keep on keeping your sense of humor & stay warm. I am looking forward to the finish and the "surprise" you plan with the old floorboards.

    I'm really enjoying watching the way you're repairing and remodeling while trying to keep what you can. You're absolutely right about homes being built to save on cost rather than being built to last. Lumber alone isn't even grown the way it used to be, so even if boards were cut to the same size, they're just weaker. Keep up the great job, and give Max lots of pets from me and my pack!

    I love all things construction/renovation and restoration. Especially turn of the century homes.
    I formerly owned a home built in the 1930’s, so I understand the challenges. And yes, they sure were built to last.
    Great job on the restoration thus far! Can’t wait to see the finished project.

    Would maybe be good to put a trap door into that little stone box. Could use it as a cellar or storage area!
    Saw someone else mention this but figured I should also repeat it to up its likelihood of being seen: if you still have any of the rough cut wooden structural beams that aren’t rotten, keep them. You will need them for framing windows and such.

When you finish this project, you should make a video discussing how much it cost you to purchase the property and how much you put into it to get it finished and maybe your plans for it! I think this channel is awesome and inspires me to try to do something similar with abandoned properties as there is a lot here in the Appalachian mountain range!
