I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well czcams.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
Big SHOUTOUT to lojooo for standing in the stores for probably about an hour talking to himself and not giving no eff about other ppl lol 💪🏼💯🎣 keep grinding love the channel
My favorite line by far is the Berkley Tri-lene Big game mono. It is marketed as more of a saltwater line, but the abrasion resistance and low memory makes it amazing for all around freshwater fishing. also for a price of around $15 for 1500 yards you can't beat it.
Brother I'm with you, got a reel of it sitting on my office desk right now!
That’s my favorite line. It keeps on taking abuse which I love so much.
How many pounds is ya line bro?
This is what I use and its never let me down. 12 lb test.
My favorite line is power pro braid. 30 pounds moss green. It’s expensive but super nice
I have used mono my whole life and have wondered if I need to use something else and this helped a lot
Jacob.....try some good braid in 15 to 20 lb test and add a mono leader. The braid will last forever and casts better than mono.
@@danielboutin5739 After a hiatus from any real fishing for awhile, this is what I've ended up doing. All my rods are primarily braid but I use a lot of leader in fluoro (which I'm new to) and mono.
@@derrick9653 I hate fluorocarbon line. It has always been unpredictable for me. I much prefer Berkley Sensation co-polymer line.
@@danielboutin5739 Never used it. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
@@derrick9653 One thing that I can guaranty is the fact that thinner lines get you more strikes. I have often fished with others and I catch more fish with 4 lb test line than those using 6 lb test line. It's the same when using larger lines. I am basing this on the fish species I fish the most often.....brook trout and walleye. Where I live, the brook trout are often over 15 inches in length. Surprisingly, using light lines and light tackle reduces hang ups on the bottom. The light tackle leaves the bottom in a more vertical motion. Most of my brook trout fishing is with only a size 8 Gamakatsu octopus hook and the front third of a nightcrawler....nothing else. The very light line allows for long casts. There are no bass up here where I live. The lakes have very little weed growth. For pike, I use braid and a titanium leader.
I like using braid at my favorite pond because it holds up against snags.
I just wanna go fishing 😭😭
Julian Mendoza Same everything is completely frozen out here! And it keeps snowing😤😭
Kobe Hernandez dude I feel
Montana weather cant decide if it wants to freeze or be spring time. Makes ice fishing a little dangerous.
Same
Same here
Stren...just about all the oldies used it. Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Shaw Grigsby. I remember watching them on Saturday mornings. Ever since than that's all i used. I still use it and trilene. I use mono, im usually on a hard budget (broke) that i have used the same line for 2 years. My robs and reels are older that you lojo. I rebuild and maintain them. So yeah my gear is old. Ill still take on any fisherman. I may get laughed at but they are my trusty robs and reels
hey if it gets the job done.... tight lines...
My dad always used mono and still uses it because other lines are to expensive 😁
Mono #1 Braid #2 I dont use floro because it doesn't last long and is expensive to replace. Once its over stretched it gets brittle and breaks on big fish. Mono will return after stretching to a point. Also its knot strength isnt as good as mono and braid. It might get you a few more bites but im not risking a lifetime fish breaking off
Yea I agree I just get the Fluor coated
I use mainly braid. You can't beat the feeling and the direct contact with the lure. You feel every little tap. Though, when i fish hardbaits (jerkbaits, crankbaits, bladebaits) for perch I use monofilament because of the stretch. I will try fluoro for that purpose this year. For icefishing I also use mono, braid takes up water and therefor freezes which makes the braid break easily in cold temperatures.
I use 60lb braid on my bait caster although I am a pike fisherman from the uk
whats fishing like in the UK?
I’ve always used only mono but I’m slowly starting to use other types of line. This video gave me some great ideas for future fishing trips!
From being pretty knew i'm trying all sorts of line and my favorite so far has been a high vis braid.
My favorite line is... "Is that a mirror in your pocket? Cause I can see myself in your pants.." getsem hooked everytime lol..
I used to use 6lbs Strength Stren, I just started fishing baits, and I upgraded to 30lb braid today, I have my poles rigged, and can't wait to go fishing, love the vid!
Hey! I sure enjoy your videos. I am a 74 year old bass fisherman living in New Mexico. Born in Oregon and living there most of my life, I did most of my fishing with my dad on the ocean, fishing for silver and chinook salmon. Also because of my age I used mono line exclusively. I started throwing fluro a bit a couple of years ago and really liked it. I use spinning reels only. I tried braided line, but just didn't like it and there is not much heavy cover in our lakes. in New Mexico. Again, I really enjoy your posts, and my vote goes for fluorocarbon line. I also make my own soft plastic baits.
Braid is my favorite because you don’t have to change it as often as other lines and cause I fish near heavy cover
just a way to save some line and money, I fill the bottom of my reels with some cheap mono, then use the good stuff the rest of the way
I like this channel. I am a Thai person who likes to watch foreign channels. It's fun
That's cool brother! If you live in Thailand, what kinds of fish do you catch?
I’m in SoCal. I’ve used mono for years but have recently switched to braided. And I use it all year long. Power Pro 20lbs for lake with my Shakespeare Cirrus 6’6 spinning reel and Power Pro 50lbs for pier/surf/ocean fishing with any 7’0 Spinning Reel. I love it.
I don't need another rod or reel! I have plenty but my favourite is the Spider Wire 25 lb. test line. I have used this for 20 something years. I have never had a problem with the wire itself and it has been the best hands down! No backlash or hangups like you get with monofilament wire. My least favourite is just that - monofilament because it stretches and it snags easily because of that very property. Thank you for sharing this with us. Most people don't understand the difference between the three but I do because I've used them all. I have been fishing for over 40 years and I just went fishing yesterday (6/13/2021) and I just can't seem to catch ANYTHING but babies from the shore. This is why it's best to use a boat! Thank you again and have a great year.
Not sure I have a favorite yet still learning about what lines to use thanks for your videos
Suffix makes the best braid and mono in my experiences.
Thanks for the info - planning my strategy for evolving from medium spinning mono rods for northern and bass to tools better suited for the job. Matching line with other equipment is confusing to me, so specific recommendations like yours are very much appreciated!
My absolute favorite fishing line Is stren 20 mono bc I just like how it cast how smooth it is coming out of my reel and the durability or it.
For NY bass fishing, I’m pretty much a straight braid girl! I use Power Pro 30 lb for pretty much everything, with an occasional Berkeley Vanish 15 or 20 fluoro leader. I find that our cover here is light enough that I can use 30 braid in the heaviest cover we get and never get broken off.
I just don’t use mono very much for bass because I don’t do much topwater at home. When I do use mono (on saltwater trips, usually) I throw a really heavy mono onto a 5000 or bigger spinning reel.
Hope you feel better!
100% if I could only fish one type I’d have to choose 20lb braid
YakPak Outdoors I’ve only ever used 20lb braid on a spool one time and it was two years ago and half of its still on the reel lol I use it as a backer now on a spinning set up Godline baby to mono for small top water like popR etc
Andrew Wolf yep people underestimate how long braid will actually last. That GodLine is good stuff 👌🏼
Unless your big catfisher men or big spoonbiller but especially catfishing that braid sits in the water and rots away slowly. Trust me every year line needs to be replaced for me.
YakPak Outdoors plus you can reel a spool down onto another empty spool and basically get brand new/ slightly used line. All the braid that usually stayed on the spool is now your fishing line of this makes any sense. Basically you’re inverting your braid spool from inside out
I go for 40 pound braid bec i live in a country were there are huge pike of around 35 pound
I have only used floral so I don’t really have a favorite 😬
I really love using braided line and the sound that they make is so satisfying and i don’t have to worry about it getting broke
I’m glad you mentioned the noise that braid makes because I live that so much when I’m reeling in a fish ha ha !!
My favorite line is braided 20 pound fireline
Hey you are one of my favorite youtubers and you help me a lot with me being a new angler and this video helped a lot and my favorite type of line would be 15 lb braid I did all the steps and shared the video to my twitter account
I agree Lojo, I often use mono with crankbaits when I don’t bring my medium rods, if I only have MH I like the stretch
I agree with throwing a lipless crank on mono line, have used it and the stretch helps keep the fish pinned while you reel him in.
I'm new to fishing anything but cat and trout. And always used fluro. But just switched into learning some top water stuff and really like 30-40 braid now.
I usually use 30lb braid and then a leader of either Flouro or Mono depending on the technique. I think the reason you are having better luck with mono on the lipless crankbait is due to the MH fast rod you are using. If you drop down to a Medium Moderate rod then the rod is the shock absorber instead of the line.
I was thinking the exact same thing..
I like braid and fluorocarbon I have mono filament on my spinning rod and he keeps getting twisted and coiled and it's very frustrating
After I started switching my bail before I started reeling instead of using the reeling to switch the bail I started getting bird’s nest a lot less
LOJO is my favorite CZcamsr
Levi Nolan same Levi
I use the pro cat braid line in 30 or 50 pound test for heavy catfish, especially Flatheads. Flatheads move slow and have big meaty lips. Their tough lips make setting the hook challenging but they don't strike hard so you want more action in your rod to feel bites . Since your rod is going to be more flexible so you can feel the strikes you want line with less stretch to help you set the hook in their big meaty lips . It also seems to me that pro cat braid line is more durable when a big kitty takes you around stumps and underwater snags.
I use fluorocarbon line for fishing for anything with a moving bait fishing like bass, trout and bowfin . I use light weight 4 to 6 pound mono on light action rod combos for catching small bait fish . I have a pond with a lot of sunfish 2" to 3" that bite fast . I can almost catch one on every cast using micro spinner baits.
I learned a lot in this video a lot of fisherman don’t do their research before they give advice on what equipment to use during bass fishing so I appreciate you knowing your stuff and making this video easier to understand for beginner anglers like myself. Thank you
They all have different uses! I use them all, and think its kind of tough to compare which is "best".
same here, gre up on mono and trust it the most. im a simple man
You ever mess with co polymer?
@@Mass_bigbaits yea i have, i like it too, basically a hybrid between flouro and mono. great if you only want one line as its neutral in the water.
@@One_more_cast does it float or sink? Thank you for replying
@@Mass_bigbaits its basically neutral, as in it doesnt float or sink, so can be used for topwater and for baits like jerkbaits and wont mess up either one. kind of right in the middle between flouro and mono.
Logo l love the vids you are a great fisherman I want to be like you
Spelled his name wrong but me too
Lojo
Lojo and he is awesome
@@koltfeller7279 i know i said that
Personally I prefer 12lb mono line cuz I normally fish sunfish or largies. It’s cheap, and works fine.
12 is good but if i was you i would go 20 lb mono just in case you get something over 12lbs better safe than sorry
@@karstenmeanor8812 You can catch massive fish on light line if you play the fish . I've caught several bass over 12lbs on ultralight gear with 6lb mono
Fishing line for me, fishing down here in Louisiana, I prefer to use braid or fluorocarbon, 30 lb for braid, 15 or 17 lb fluoro. That’ll do the trick for just about all the fishing down here around me!
Braid - fireline. Cus, it the ultimate line for My setup, predetor fishing.
Denmark 😁👍
My spinning rod and reel says 4-10 pound line and my baitcaster says 10-20 pound, could i use 15 pound fluorocarbon for both? I usually use crankbaits and Texas rig
I like Fishing and Diesel 66 yes you can... on the spinning reel you will just loose some casting range.
“I think I have enough” boi I don’t even have a rod and reel yet
if u need some advice walmart has some between 9-30 dollars i have one and it is lasting for a few weeks now
Another banger
Down in Miami, I always use braid with a fluoro leader. The peacock bass fray the braid too quickly. Snook and tarpon fray ot even faster.
The Stren mono is what I use for this cooler weather
My Walmart don't carry half the amount of fishing line to use to.
30 lb braid is my favorite line, keeps me from loosing as many lures when I'm snagged
If you want something that doesn't float like braid for jerkbaits or deep diving cranks try P-line cxx copolymer. I use it and it is very strong, haven't lost any lures yet.
@@AdventureAddict-m8v I caught a few 8 pound trout on P-line copolymer this year and yes it's strong but from my experience doesn't cast very smooth.
@@lowkeykeylow5526 No it's definitely not the absolute smoothest casting. But I've caught all my fish on it for a long time.
@@AdventureAddict-m8v Yeah definitely not bad at all
Nice video and could you go catfishing
I’m in north jersey, we have a ton of cover from Lilly’s to nasty 🤢 grass to nice hydro!!!! I use only 20lbs braid it’s very very good super thin cast perfect 👌and I catch a lot of bass a month SLX MED. 6”10 with a 7-1-2 SLX reel
I like floor the best. I think that it is the best all around fishing line I use this for Texas rig a lot. But Lojo I truly agree that the higher-priced lines are going to be the better line choice
You the best
My favorite line is braid.
Like 30lbs braid 100%
Heyyy i love u lojo
I am out of line so I have to line my spool. I already love your videos this is gonna be great. Gonna try to take my 3 year old fishing this weekend.
By far my most used line is 20-30 pound braid. I really only fish thick brush and trees so it's hard not to use anything but that. Great video man keep them up
Thanks so much
First
What’s up lojo, my favorite overall is most likely Fluoro. I use braid too, but the majority of the time I’ll use Fluoro, 12-17 lb line
I use mono for everything but flipping and top water just because of expense. Luckily now flouro is getting cheaper and more affordable seems like. Thanks for the vid!
My favorite top water has to be the jitterbug! Caught alot of big bass on it and the action is just amazing! You should try that top water lure!
Great video! I am a braid guy and I several rods spooled up with 10lb to 40lb braid. I would like to try floro in the future. Thanks for the info.
Lol I'm the complete opposite
Tucker Anderson no problem with that. I was a mono man myself for a long time. Braid and mono have pluses and minuses
Main line braid throughout. 15lb spinning, 50lb for topwater and flipping, 30lb for everything else. Then I just use leaders. 8lb for spinning, 12lb crankbaits, 15lb for anything else that isn't in too heavy of cover, 20lb for heavy cover applications.
My favorite line is definitelyono just because I love to have the stretch. My least favorite would have to be braid surprisingly because it doesn't fit well for me up in Michigan.
My favorite line is mono, but a close 2nd is braid. Most of the time, with braid though, I tie on a floro leader. I love the look of that spinning combo
I used my first buzz bait today with a 20lb braided line and the line snapped after a few casts. It snapped in a weird spot too. I had just gotten a big bite too then casted again to try and get the fish and it snapped. I didn’t get a backlash nor a knot on my bait caster. But it also snapped on a 1/2 oz brushless jig. Now I know I’m going to try and use minimum 30lb line thanks.
I have used most all brands of line out their on the market but what has stuck around is 15 lb seaguar Vis X. This is by far the main line I use the most of.
My favorite fishing line is definitely braid, and if I had to choose a weight it would be 30 pounds because I can still throw a top water and a possible lipless crank bait or normal crank bait.
I'd be more than happy to take anyone of those combos off your hands lojo!!!!! Helpful video
Man, I really miss your old videos. Every now and then I watch them again :)
I like to fish a braided mainline, with a mono/fluoro underline. Especially when you are bottom fishing and you run the risk of snagging, use a low pound dragline with the weight on it and if your weight gets stuck, the swimbait above it will be saved!
My funnest setup is a cheap Shakespeare 6’6” light spinning rod with s cheap Kastking Mela II 1000 size reel spooled with 10LB spiderwire braid. Hauled in a 8LB largemouth on a micro shad color crankbait around a fallen oak tree after Hurricane Michael early last month and it had to be the best fight of my life against a fish. My dad watched in disbelief that I managed to work that fish in around that cover without losing it. Man I’m ready to get on some water soon!
very nice
Here in North Alabama I stick to mostly flouro and braid, flouro on everything but most topwaters I use it also on my finesse rigs because of how it is for the most part invisible in the water so I feel it gives a better presentation personal opinion though great video lojo keep it up
Last year I went with J braid 20 lb test . Used for just about everything I fish with but mainly Texas rig senko . Great video
30 lb braid is the way i go on almost all my rods! I like Power Pro on spider wire the color gets on your fingers and it just looks weird to me it works though.
Logo, think you nailed it with the breakdown of why you choose and use many different lines. There is no best line. Each situation dictates what type of line you're going to use. Watching you, your were in my head as far as when and why I choose all three types of lines and how I set them up for the specific styles of fishing I am doing. I have been a subscriber for a while and watching this video reminded me why. We need to wet a hook together. Appreciate the effort, even when sick, to help others with our great spor!
I love braid but will also use mono as it does help set the hooks because the pike here in the UK can't throw the lure as easy
I am new to fishing and we don't have the money to buy any fishing gear so I watch you on CZcams have fun fishing
As a crankbait primary fisherman, a good tip is not to use heavy line on a crankbait. I use 10 maybe 12 if I'm around structure. The heavy lb line actually keeps the bait from running as deep. Mono is my go to cranking line because with a moderate tip and stretching line it really keeps those trebles pinned. Just a tip for you in your crankbait future.
I don't know about new York state but in VT, YES we DO have areas with heavy cover.
15lb fluorocarbon is pretty universal up here you could almost fish anything with it
My favorite braid is power pro for flipping I go anywhere from 50-65 pounds and for mono is Stren 15 pound line for all around fishing and for fluoro its probably pline but suffix is good too
Don’t have much experience fishing but I use braided line so still have a lot more line to give a try I’ve been fishing for only 2 years but I love it so far
What u said bout the mono makes a lot of sense I never thought of it that way I’m have to try it out
I'd also suggest buying your most common line in 1000 yard spools. Much cheaper that way.
I usually get my braid from the mom and pop shop. You'll get exactly the right amount you need and won't waste the rest of the spool or run out of line before the reel is filled on a high capacity reel.
I have a zillion partial spools of braid i use for catfishing leaders from my old days of spooling my own.
I thought I was the only one who fished mono with lipless cranks. Glad to see you recognize the benefits of it. I fish more clear water in Southern California though so I stick with 12lb izorline mono. Awesome video!
I usually use 12 pound lo-vis green Trilene on most of my reels. I will use braid when flipping heavy cover or top water. Thanks for the video!
Godline makes black braid, super price friendly online. 👌I use mostly fluro for all around, and braid for topwater.
New to baitcasters. Just ordered a new SLX. Planning to use it with 12lb yozuri hybrid and switch out my 10lb on my current daiwa fuego to 30 lb power pro. This vid came out at a perfect time since I was trying to figure out my set ups.
I love your Mono explanation So many anglers Lose a lot of fish because there using Braid and floro and the best and easiest adjustment is Mono people who super set hooks should stay away from Straight braid and Floro unless no choice!
I have been searching for a video like this to help explain fishing lines to a beginner like me. LOJO this video was perfect! Thank you for all the information!!
This has helped me I’ve used mono and barely braid but never floro but in the south in North Carolina where I’m at I use 15 pound mono but up in Indiana for like steel head I use braid idk I just like it better for that
Love using braid here in New Mexico lots of ponds have lily to throw around
My favorite is 20 pound braided fireline , I fish mostly pike so I like the stiff line for my jerks :D
Still adjusting to all of them but braid for top water. Thank You for all the tips!
I use Mono, Braid and Flro . I use Braid with a Floro leader in saltwater . I use Triline Big Game for Bass and Stren mono . All this I use in bulk spools.
Thanks for making such a great video! I definitely love using mono over anything else because it’s cheap and works.
