Okay so this next part of the description always used to say: "Trying to document grad school one CZcams video at a time, from lab equipment to genetics lessons to interviews with other scientists! Each video is a new view into life as a grad student, and the rollercoaster that is getting a PhD." But now I have my PhD. I'm not a grad student anymore! On to new adventures...

You probably don't remember, but I was following you early in your channel, and when you got accepted to grad school at Stanford, I wrote a comment to you about my Bio PhD experience there and wishing you well. Over the years it seems that your videos just weren't coming up in my feed, and so I'm just now seeing this as they've started showing back up. A very belated congrats on your successful defense!
I went back to Hopkins Marine Station, where my lab was, when my mentor retired, 20 years after I finished my doctorate. I was there at a time when everyone in my old lab was away at a conference, so I was able to go in and look around in the place all alone. It was amazing how little it had really changed, but also very noticeable in the ways that it had, and very weird to look into my bay and bench and know that not only wasn't it mine anymore, but that it was someone else's whom I'd never met. It will always feel like an old home, and I hope you get many opportunities to return to yours.

Congrats! I remember I started watching your videos like 5 or 6 years ago, Bite-sized was still your channel. Back then I was finishing my Middle High School and now I'm one step away of getting my Bachelor's Degree on Biology. Certainly you were one of the people that I admire and who pushed me to continue in the wonderful world of science. At the begining of this year I took a course on Culture of animal's cells and tissues and I understood your fascination with them. I'm not sure if after getting my degree I will continue on the culture's branch, but at least I learned a lot and I know I can use that tool in a future.
Thanks for everything until now, congratulations and be successful in whatever you chose as your next step!
