- This is a video of Shawn Farquhar reacting to Jason Parker reacting to Shawn Farquhar on Penn & Teller's Fool Us season seven from Las Vegas.
Apparently, it's a thing for magicians to film themselves REACTING to other magicians performances on CZcams.
So I discovered a magician, Jason Parker, reacting to my video and made my own video of me reacting to them reacting to me. I hope it's as entertaining for you as it was for me...

Honestly, to the audience watching Fool Us, the “Fooled” vs “Not Fooled” decision is the least important part of the whole thing, in my opinion. It’s not even well defined. What mattered to me was that it was a great routine, a clever presentation referring back to your previous appearances, and it was a joy to watch. And the reaction and this reaction to the reaction were fun too 😊
Penn has gone on record, during the show, to share the same opinion: the show is about magicians showing off unique effects and entertaining an audience; the whole fooled-or-not-fooled thing is entirely secondary. (It was after Eric Leclerc's performance that he said this, if you want to look it up.)
I remember they said one of the reasons they were doing this was so that they can feel like kids again experiencing magic as magic.

Correct. Some of the best performances (in my opinion) aren't always the ones that fool them. I loved Xulio Merino's sponge balls, but I also REALLY liked D.K's light tricks. The former fooled P&T while the latter didn't but their performances were both extremely entertaining in their own ways. I honestly think that's what captivates me so much about Fool Us. There can be the Shin Lim's who do amazing tricks and fool P&T, but there are also fantastic magicians who put on arguably better performances and don't fool them. It's incredible.

4:05. I think that look was his way of saying, "don't blink, you'll miss something."
Also, especially so given his reaction to the similar presentation of Shawn's first appearance, and his discussion around that... I suspect it was sort of referencing that.
Now I expect that Jason Parker reacts to this reaction, and later Shawn to that one, and later Jason, creating and infinite loop of reactions. I love the positivity of these guys

Really thought you’d get a third trophy here, Shawn. You are my all time favorite magician on FU and I still can’t get over the trick you did on your first appearance. Nice video and I hope to see more of these!

I remember watching each one of Shawn's performances, and to this day I still can't figure out how he got that card back in the deck, but even if I knew every secret I'd still love watching it because he's one of the best showmen around, and that is real magic.
Shawn, as far as I'm concerned: if ALL you EVER did was that first trick on P&T, with the cards that re-sealed themselves in Penn's hand, that alone would make you a legend. You melted my brain! But to go back again and again and keep fooling them (!), well you deserve all the awards you get and more. Congratulations on all your success! P.S. I'm convinced you're not doing illusion. You're doing actual magic and passing it off as illusion. All good wishes, good sir!

I’ve watched a lot of these Penn & Teller videos, but Shawn is the first magician I’ve subscribed too. Very entertaining, seems a genuinely sweet guy and a great magician.

One of my favorite things about Shawn is as big as slice of the perverbial pie he has, he is delighted to share the rest with everyone else, not only that but he leaves plenty to go around. He is a literal champion in magic yet happily praises others performers. I'm willing to bet Shawn much like Teller loves watching magic as much as he performs it.

I had no idea you had a channel or I would have tuned in before now. Penn nailed it when he said that your magic is always full of joy. That's the best thing about your performances, and considering how good the actual magic always is, that's really saying something.

My brother and I decades back operated a tiny animation studio in coastal Virginia. Hand drawn & painted, traditional stuff. We were right out of college, just sorting out how to make money off the craft. It put us in touch with a lot of talented folks. One, John Cady, was a fine painter and we learned he was also a nationally-ranked "Close-up Magician." Finishing our 2nd 15-minute film was an occasion for what some folks call a "Wrap Party." We had a 10-foot-long Submarine sandwich, drinks, desserts, and other treats, and John surprised us at the end with a Wonderful 15-minute series of ASTOUNDING magic tricks. Watching someone do that and making it look so effortless is both stunning and humbling. Unforgettable, too.
My brother was a guitarist. Performing up & down the West Coast in Bands in High School, teaching hundreds of other kids beginning at age 15 and for the next 16 years.
*_I just remember how many thousands of hours he practiced and practiced, perfecting all those runs and licks to get them to sound effortless and utterly spontaneous. Of course, he also did a lot of improvising, too, which requires tons of practice._*
I'm guessing a magician has to do the same thing to achieve that ability to make the magic ... well, *_MAGIC..._*

Thank you - I enjoyed that! Have often wondered what magicians think of the reaction videos to their show. I like the fact that Jason doesn't reveal the whole secret but does eliminate some of the possibilities.
I have a problem with video that focus on exposure. Jason doesn't do that, I like him a lot.

Not a magician myself, but casually like to enjoy watching magic (and of course, maybe trying to figure out what moves were used...). On my first viewing on Jason's channel, I too was confused how the Jack/8/5 got there, but after watching this reaction, I at least have a guess and it involves Allison, or any person for that matter, on how they follow instructions. If I'm correct, it really gave me a new appreciation for magic. It's not so much about finding out the moves needed to get the trick done, but the timing of conversation and the language used. Everything seemed so natural and benign. Regardless, it was a great performance and I think you deserved that trophy....

It actually IS a first reaction to your performance, he just goes back and does rewatches between the end of the act and the part where Penn and Teller talk and doesn't record it.

My father in law is a world renowned Mentalist, he's shown me things I never thought possible. I started watching things like this because of him, and you made me love card magic! I don't know much, but my father in law has a pretty nice collection of books, so hopefully one day I'll be great!

This was pretty awesome. Watching Jason's videos is my main way of watching magicians because I don't actually have cable and I really enjoy his reactions and commentary. Getting to see the magician performing reacting to Jason's reaction is priceless
This guy ahs been twice the world champion of card magic and can't do faro shuffle or palming, but who cares because he's so nice, funny, interesting and the tricks he do by the way he does it (which I have 0 idea how it works) are soo great. You deserve your success, Shawn! You're soo good.

You don't seem like the type of guy that "needs" to fool them a 3rd time, but I felt so bad for you, because you would have earned it!
You're really a great performer and you spread nothing but joy during your performances and I think that's the aim of magic. As I watched your other 2 perfomances on fool us multiple times, I understood all the jokes and references immediately and I do even think the audience as well as P&T were a little stiff. But nevertheless I love your work and if I ever get to Canada I have to visit your show. Keep on doing your job ;D
It was the last day of filming, the pandemic was just becoming a real thing to most in the US and everyone was a little uneasy. I'm sure after two weeks of seeing countless acts that Penn & Teller were exhausted. You can hear it in his voice. I did a lot of references that were meant solely for my fans and the fans of Fool Us. Not everyone in the audience was going to get a lot of the hints... even Allyson as she wasn't host when I did my first appearance. I created the trick just a few weeks before filming and was still editing it on the day. You can see me pause just before the revelation of the Joker...because I forgot what card was going to be there! lol... I did it for fun...and I had fun.
Great video! I've said it before and i'll say it again. Shawn Farquhar is the nicest guy in magic. I had the amazing opportunity to see him Lecture in Calgary, Alberta. I was star struck meeting him and he was the most approachable and humble celebrity i've ever met. I purchased every effect he had brought that day, save for the wallet, I wasn't quick enough on the draw for that lol. If any of you have a chance to see him perform and/or get to meet him, it's totally worth it. My favorite magician by far!!!

When you see him watching it it actually is his first time watching. When he pauses it afterwards to give his thoughts he’ll go back and watch a second time to try and see if his speculations might be correct or if he catches more things.
