🎬 Connor heads to Africa for an intensely moving film by Cary Fukunaga, in which we see the life of child soldier Agu under his Commandant, played by Idris Elba.

This is a genuinely fantastic film and it’s sad that the actor for striker got all his money stolen from him by his manager
I had no idea 😮
WHAAAAT?! That's horrendous

Glad people are still talking about this movie. One of the most compelling stories I've seen.
💯💯👍
It really is - thans for stopping by!

The fact this film turned up for me just after doing a deep dive on General Buttnaked really made it hit diff'rent. It really made me sit back and wonder whether he had changed or whether it was just another way to make money and have influence. I tend towards cynicism in this regard, but this film really brought me back to the angle of everyone being a human and how anyone could wake up one day to the horror of what they've done. I still don't know what I think, but I know this is one of the few movies I can't rewatch w/o needing to show it to someone.
As an aside, it's great to see you're blowin' up. I knew you would, and I knew you'd keep up the quality. Just don't burn yourself out w/ your work rate.
This is one of the most powerful movies I’ve ever seen it’s stuck with me ever since i watched it for the first time in 2015
dude this channel is so good they put so much thought into all of their videos. each one is like a video essay
Great content.
Thank you Cooper! We do take our time with the Nightmare Fuel videos, each one around 1500-2000 words for the scripts, twice a week if we can!
The book is far more brutal and vivid in its descriptions, however the ending of the book compared to the movie I argue is more rooted in justice that the movie doesn't necessarily touch upon
glad to see an episode on this amazing movie. its so underappreciated.
💯💯
this , jar head and all the versions of all quiet on the western front are my favorite types of anti war film. they show you how just how hellish war can get.
Thank you for covering this movie. I would love to see you cover Wolf Creek 2, Soldier Blue, Men Behind the Sun, Hamburger Hill, The Deer Hunter,Platoon, and Dead Man's Shoes! You do the best reviews and give great insight!!
Seconded on Soldier Blue!
men behind the sun 🤮🤮🤮
Thank you for the kind words and recommendations grimtea!
I remember watching this when I was 14 and wow did it shift up my perception
Maybe I should give it a watch
@@chasehedges6775 it’s a wild watch
Through 66 and 7 they fought the Congo war, fingers on their triggers, knee deep in gore
Days and nights they battled the
Bantu to their knees
They killed to earn their living
And to help out the Congolese
Rooooooooland the Thompson gunner

Strika dying made me think everyone was going to die eventually. Glad to see they chose to surrender and leave him in the jungle. The film could have ended much, much worse.
Films like The Nightingale(2018) and The Divide(2011) should be reviewed next. Both disturbing movies that explore the darkness and brutality of humanity. Anyone agree?
2 movies I'd love to see you do justice on are girl lost and girl lost a Hollywood story. Those are definitely nightmare fuel
OMG, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Love this guys content
I hope it was worth the wait for you! Thank you for the recommendation!

I have the Criterion Blu-ray of this, which I bought before we learnt about Fukunaga being complete human garbage.
Complete human garbage.
Humans are terrifying
I'm not familiar with Mr F, but I'm fairly certain someone who used former child soldiers with ptsd as extras in what must have seemed like a live action flashback might not be the nicest person in the world...Oh well, it's a great movie
@@daniellewillis2767 Oh, did that happen? Yeesh. I was referring to his multiple assault allegations.
@@rowanc88 Having never heard of Fukanaga I was just saying I wasn't surprised a director who put child actors and former child soldiers through their paces like that might not be very pleasant to work with. Anyway what are the allegations?
@@daniellewillis2767 Multiple allegations of s**ual assault.
Glad we agree children are impressionable and can be turned into anything. Sp lets stop telling em sick shit in elementary school and let them grow up before filling their heads with adult ideology.
