Maaaan... I know nothing about wrestling and honestly will probably never get into it but seeing these 3 get so excited and passionate about it is just a blast. what a great episode.
As someone who knows many wrestling fans and thus has existed on the periphery of wrestling Fandom, I can confirm that it is impenetrable from the outside. But I am happy for fans (well, the not shitty ones anyway) who get enjoyment from it.
Yeah honestly. A single question leading to a 3 minute tangent that itself leads into reminiscing that runs about 5 more minutes. That's wrestling fans in a nutshell
I love how on the last question, Trapp says "I'll reveal the answer and you can fight it out forever," followed by both of the answerers immediately conceding the point.
As a wrestling fan, this was a great episode. Would love to see more content where Trapp opens with "I know nothing about this, let's just see how it goes."
as someone in basically the same camp as trapp in terms of knowing nothing about wrestling this has been one of the most fun episodes of um actually (and that's a high bar because all the episodes are extremely fun) and i love it so much
Ditto, i haven't really watched wrestling since the 90's / early 00's and recognised maybe 25% of the wrestlers they mentioned but loved the episode, really hope to see more of these guests
I love that they finally did a pro wrestling themed episode! It's about time after seeing all three contestants get one wrestling question during their previous appearances
Um, Actually, in the the movie No Holds Barred, Hulk Hogan didn't play himself, he played a wrestler named Rip. This means that when Zeus came to the WWF, it was a case where a character in a movie came to life to challenge the actor that played his opponent in that movie
I was going to comment the same thing. With the wording of the question suggesting that he played "established wrestler Hulk Hogan" in the movie, that would be a point, right?
i enjoy the idea of statements that are wrong on multiple fronts and giving out points for every wrong thing that people can identify; it's especially fun that Trapp didn't intend for them but is still giving the points.
im not a wrestling fan currently, nor have i ever been suuuper into wrestling, but this has been one of my favourite episodes of um actually ever. the banter and enthusiasm is just unparalleled
These episodes are fun somehow because of, rather than in spite of, the fact that I know absolutely NOTHING about what they're talking about. In normal episodes I'll at least have a couple questions that land in my wheelhouse, but now I'm just watching a bunch of people get really excited about something completely meaningless to me. It's surprisingly enjoyable
Even as someone who knows barely anything about wrestling, watching these three gush about a topic they love so much was awesome! I understand from a production perspective why you guys might be hesitant to make episodes that focus solely on one topic, but from an audience perspective this was a joy to watch. I would love if DropOut team experiments even more with episodes that are strongly themed. The Love Actually episode was really cool, and shows that an episode an be themed around a concept rather than a single property.
Ive watched every episode. But i think ill come back to this one. 10 min and i am overfilled with their energy. Gunna go run a couple miles and try this again.
I loved this as someone who knows nothing about wrestling. The guests were great with their knowledge and banter, and I loved Danielle being there and the discussion around professional wrestling being about story and charisma, not just strength and athletics.
So glad to see this episode out to the public, this and the other wrestling episode single handedly sparked my interest into pro wrestling. I really hope you'll do another one of these! Bang bang!
depends on how you're interpreting the sentence "A ladder has held the title three times" it could mean that a single ladder has won the title three times, or it could mean that on three occasions the title was held by ladders, english is a pretty shit language at the end of the day WCYD?
@@stocktonjoans The statement said that one-time champions include a ladder. And then the correction was that the ladder had won it three times. But it was three DIFFERENT ladders who each one it once. Trapp is obviously racist against ladders, he thinks all ladders look the same. 12:07 "Ladder is a three time champion." Not "A ladder."
I feel like Trapp did get his research wrong. Kane debuted in 1997, but he was against the Undertaker at first. I don't think they started teaming until the summer of 1998 after their WrestleMania match.
The Hulk-Hulk Hogan issue was brought up, but no one mentioned the Sting-Sting trademark issue. Seems like the perfect question for an Um, Actually about wrestling.
This the most Um, Actually IRL of any Um, Actually episode. 7:04 is when the second question finally starts because it descended into that typical situation where everyone is at a party and a group of people are standing around in the kitchen getting into the weeds of a topic out-Um, Actually-ing each other. lol
Hmm, I agree but also disagree for 2 reasons. 1. The Rock was not wrestling at the time. Which seems like a pretty small disagreement until 2. The entire article (and cover) had almost nothing to do with him wrestling. It is mentioned in passing once in the article however the whole thing is actually about him as a football player and as a movie actor. There have been plenty of other people who have wrestled and appeared in Sports Illustrated but the question seemed to be about people who appeared in Sports Illustrated **as** wrestlers which The Rock did not.

I love so much how they're all knowledgeable and having fun sharing that knowledge. Even without being a wrestling fan this was a great episode to watch!
I am not a wrestling fan or know anything about wrestling, but this was a really fun episode! The personalities and passion of the contestants was a very good energy!
I have no idea what these people are talking about and I'm entertained by the banter in between questions. This must've been how non-musical nerds felt during the musical Um, Actually.
The Real-Life Question's outcome didn't really matter in the end, since they were tied at 4, but I love that Mike didn't give points 'cause they were both technically wrong, which is the worst kind of wrong.
As a life long wrestling fan, and someone who random knowledge just STAYS in my head. I love this episode, and (Before starting it) feel like I would have done REALLY well.
The best thing about this ep is Trapp's genuine openness to talk about it. I've always said wrestling is a nerd fandom like any other, and it's nice to have that validated by the UA crew. 🤘
Hodge was explicitly an _amatuer_ wrestler when he was on the cover of SI. He didn't turn pro until 1959. Otherwise you could say that Dennis Rodman, Karl Malone, Shaq, William "the Refrigerator" Perry, and Lawrence Taylor were professional wrestlers on the cover of SI too.
when the contestants said "dusty finish" i had to mumble under my breath "um, actually...a dusty finish is when a referee reverses a decision due to cheating revealed to them by outside means"
Um, actually, Jay shouldn't have gotten credit for hard way. Hard way doesn't have to be a shot to the head, and it specifically requires the person to be busted open, which wasn't part of the given definition.
I love the part about two concussed pro-wrestlers trying to solve a mystery. I'd love to see that! "So the perpetrator came in through this window, stole the documents, and killed Mr. Jones before fleeing the scene." "Okay... so what do you... what do you want from us...??" "Look for clues, perhaps? Interview persons of interest?" "Alright... how 'bout... the dude this stuff happened to. Can we like, talk to him?" "No. This was a murder, Mr. Jones is dead. That means you can't talk to him." "Oh. Damn. Okay... Hm... um... how 'bout the guy... like... who done it? We talk to him?" "We don't know who did it. That's what we need you to figure out." "Uh... ... ... ... Can you give us a hint...??"
Um, actually, in the movie No Holds Barred, it's not accurate to say Zeus is Hulk Hogan's nemesis. Real-life wrestler Hulk Hogan plays in-movie wrestler Rip, and Zeus (played by 'Tiny' Lister) is Rip's nemesis.
if um, actually does another wrestling trivia episode im hopping to see Brain Zane, Steve & Larson And The Cultaholic an WhatCultureWreastling boys since they got knowledge on Wrestling! great ep by the by :]
Man, I never could get into wrestling when I was younger, it was always seen as more of a soap opera back then, or I guess in todays standards maybe its more of a reality show? but seeing the energy in this video makes me wish I had enjoyed it at this level. One of the most "superfans" themed episodes of Um, actually to date.

Take it like soap operas. Find you a freind that'll geek out and get you up to date with the drama. You can catch em randomly and still get it.
It’s awesome. Let go of caring about anything other that showmanship and wh-ild spectacle!
The in-between-questions banter is extremely on-brand for a pro wrestling Um, Actually
Yeah honestly. A single question leading to a 3 minute tangent that itself leads into reminiscing that runs about 5 more minutes. That's wrestling fans in a nutshell
I love how on the last question, Trapp says "I'll reveal the answer and you can fight it out forever," followed by both of the answerers immediately conceding the point.

right? I barely understood a single word that was spoken in this episode but everyone was so passionate that I was just happy to be along for the ride
This episode has the same feel as the horror/halloween one, just wholesomely enthusiastic and the players working together. 😄
The reaction to the half brother part! Omg that’s the nerd passion we come here for
I had the same reaction!
I literally yelled it out, perfect Um Actually Question.
I had the same reaction. It is on the same level as the B-sharps question.

Loved seeing Danielle's excitement at the mention of wrestling jargon
This is the first Um, Actually where I knew the answer to EVERY SINGLE STATEMENT. I appreciate the stroll down memory lane.
The joy these three have in their wrestling geekdom is a wonderful thing!
Um actually Kane debuted in 1997 at in your house bad blood to get revenge on his brother for almost killing him. They only started teaming in 98.
Jay's "HE WAS ?!" at 26:37 is just nerdy joy.

Always love wrestling questions in Umm Actually, and this was a treat to watch 👌Also Ify should be in the second one of this

Mat and Jeff Hardy, solving the mystery of Broken Matt and Brother Nero
Um, Actually, it wasn't the same ladder that won the DDT Pro Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship, it was three separate ladders.

Um, Actually this was the most "Um, Actually" episode of Um, Actually
"I do not know the people's elbow" blew me away. I thought Hulk's leg drop, Rockie's elbow, and Austin's stunner were more famous than that
I think I realize how deep my wrestling nerdom really goes. I had almost each of these.

Breezango did a whole detective gimic a few years back in WWE and it was really over with the fans. You can probably see the old bits on youtube.

This must've been how non-musical nerds felt during the musical Um, Actually.
I think the Brothers of Destruction actually didn't team until 98. Kane only debuted in 97
