- How to fix a GM or Chevrolet P1682 engine Code: Driver 5 Line 2 "Ignition 1 Switch Circuit 2." There are two ignition voltages supplied to the ECM.
The first ignition voltage (Ignition-1) supplies a constant voltage to the ECM even when the key is off.
The second ignition voltage (Ignition-2) supplies voltage when the key is on.
A P1682 Code is set when there is a voltage difference between these two circuits.
Possible Causes of a P1682 Code:
Bad Relay / Blown Fuse (ECM / IGN)
Faulty Ignition Switch
Wiring (Open Short)
Bad ECM ('U' code U0100)

I had that code yesterday;
I did the Ignition sensor, mass airflow sensor, replaced most of the 10,15,20 fuses, (not the relays) all eight spark plugs. Check engine light went off. 2012 gmc sierra, 5.3, 2wd, ext cab.
Did you get it to start by changing all of those things ?
what were your symptoms other than just that code?
Truck went into creep mode until the temperature warmed up some and the stability track went off. I replaced these and stab track turn back on. I would've started with my throttlebody, because my throttle body was what was causing the problems, the sensor in it. Start by replacing your throttle body or the ignition sensor.
@@j.anders6895 Never just start throwing expensive parts at something before running some electrical tests. You gotta test first.
Just got it on my GMC Acadia Denali. I'll try a new ignition switch first. Thank you!
How did that work out
Did that repair work? Having same issue in 2013 Acadia.
That or the throttlebody
Oof, never just start throwing expensive parts at it. You gotta test first.
I would start with ignition sensor and make sure all surrounding sensor clips are tight and not loose around the ignition
Had it code pop up on my 2011 Malibu one day car had no power to radio and no crank next day started fine but is in engine power reduced, I have change throttle body maf sensor and still won’t come out of reduced power and rpm’s are jumping and car runs terrible
Have you fixed it yet ?
Very nice exploration
I’ve got this code on my 2016 Express 3500. Van has started fine and run but with engine light on. Then goes away. Now it won’t start. Any easy thoughts? I’m about 2 hours from home.
I got the p1682 code and a p2227 code after i installed a rca converter to my factory system in my 2013 equinox.
This code came up when it was -5 degrees the switch stuck on the on position , then wouldn't start , I tried again and then it cranked real slow and battery was up enough to start , re set code and see what happens, once it warmed to 16 degrees it started drove it 4 hours no trouble we will see , I think it was so cold it just stuck ?
What happened to mine, it was the throttle body sensor but you can only replace the whole throttle body on some trucks, I just replaced it $200
I have this code and it goes into power reduction mode I can unhook hot wire and about 15min it may or may not go away and drive fine....it only does it first time with a start up for the day most of time.
I haven't had it do it while driving yet
Ignition sensor or throttle body
Thank you for info
Hi.. I have 2011 Malibu lt 2.4L code p1682 sometime run normal
21 Canyon 3.6l
I'm getting u100 and have been battling Firestone and my Chevy dealer to even admit theres an issue since May.
No voltage to abs pump, brake booster, no average wheel speed, no maf sensor reading, etc...
Calipers drag slightly and feels like slight intermittent pulls against my steering wheel in the rack area.
Any way to make sure make sure it's actually the ecm without a tech 2?
I have a decent scan tool and can tell the data is off in multiple ways, but not sure how to know definitively.
Troubleshooting a bad ECM is difficult since it may also be in the wiring, but here are a few basic things to do. Be sure the alternator is charging correctly since the computers all need a good, stable power supply. Sometimes, they can have a bad ground wire, which can often be checked by attaching a jumper wire to the case to a good ground. Also, sometimes, components on the circuit boards can get burn spots, so try to check for any burning smell.
I got this code after changing the head gaskets
I'm having this problem as we speak right now with I don't get no power to the fuel pump and when I run the code it says p1682 and it says ignition switch but I tried to change the ignition switch and it didn't work it didn't even turn over so I put back the original ignition switch it turns over but it won't could you give me any hints on what to do I just went and got a new brain for the truck today it's a 2008 Chevy Colorado
I’m having the same problem , I changed the starter , starter relay , mega fuse on the firewall , ignition switch , TCM , and fuses truck still having a no crank no start problem
I'm having the same problem did you ever resolve yours just need something point in the right direction went through everything
@@dktv2331 hi friend. did you ever resolve that's ?
With me it was the throttle body sensor which means replacing the throttle body
I have an AC issue, it became hot all of sudden. After I checked with the electrcan he found this code p1682. He cleaned the throttle, also changed the alternator, not to mention spark plugs, but the issue still there. I forgot to mention that I changed the AC compressor, but nothing changed. Can anyone guess what the problem is? Impala 2016.
I would check the power train relay and run/crank relay
@@UlfricStormcloak69guess what? It was the ECM that made all that troubles. I have changed it, programed it, and thanks God everything back to normal 😊
