Yeah, I don't know when the definition of cameo morphed from 'actor/person playing themselves in a fleeting appearance' to 'actor actually playing a small role.' Hitchcock used to cameo in his films; Channing Tatum himself cameos in This Is The End. I suppose people are saying the character is cameoing rather than the actor, but it's still an actor playing a proper role.

That's the one thing I LOVE about Gambit, and Deadpool & Wolverine as a whole. You can really feel the passion and love these people have for the characters. And through this love/passion, they will give the role and movie their absolute maximum effort. And as fans, we can see the results of their passion on screen. Differing a lot from previous Marvel projects where actors legitimately stated they never liked or read comics in any way before the role. I mean, if you don't have passion for the movie/role, why should I?

I think gambit got transported to the same x-men universe that monica rambeau got stuck in. That way DP can connect into the MCU characters/plot line by the time secret wars comes along.

Ryan said he knows why Thor was crying, a Dr Doom comic was an Easter egg in Deadpool and Wolverine, so I bet Ryan knew about the RDJ casting as well and it's a set up scene. To c gambit on the screen as more than a cameo is the dream come true. Gambit is one of my favorite xmen who has not b on the big screen as much as the other xmen in which he deserves the equal amount of time. Hoping to c gambit throughout the next few marvel movies and even a tv show leading up to a brief time away from the xmen so when he links back up with the xmen it a b an epic battle of some sort.

He needs to be a main X-Men cast member in the new team and franchise of movies. That's it. Nothing short of that. Not some background character, but one of the main ones. Not another X-Men series that is 95% Wolverine, but one where there is an actual team and Gambit is a key member of the team that is in every movie, the same way that you couldn't make an Avengers movie without like Captain America or Thor.

While I doubt that Channing Tatum will be the official MCU Gambit, I do think that he'll be in Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars and hopefully Taylor Kitsch can reprise his Gambit too.

I think this Gambit definitely works in a more serious Marvel movie. Because even in movies like EndGame, there's still scenes of comic relief. But also, there's enough to Gambit, and Tatum is a great enough actor, to where he can drop the funny, and draw people in to the character's backstory and get sympathy.

People were complaining about Gambit's accent? That makes no sense. Deadpool called it out . . . several times. It was a part of the joke!
I think it's a good sign that the ONLY complaint I hear from comic fans is that his eyes weren't black and red. Really well done and I was surprised with how well it turned out.
Honestly they can use him to introduce the X-Men. He's a lesser known X-men as far as casual fans go. They can use his backstory of him trying to rediscover his memories and it brings him to Mister Sinister, then have it be that when he nerfed Gambit's powers he caused the amnesia or something. Have Sinister be the first big bad for the X-Men to go up against so it isn't always Magneto, Trask, or Stryker.

Channing did a brilliant job as Gambit, and I'm glad he got to play his most desired role. I just don't see Disney/Marvel doing a solo movie for a member of a team, especially someone from the X-Men. If they were going to establish a solo outing for any of those characters, it probably would be best to detail their origins or backstory in a limited series on Disney + or something like Netflix's Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones. Then Gambit, Colossus, Cyclops, Marvel Girl/Phoenix, Storm, Ice Man, Wolverine, etc can have an established history that makes each distinct so that you know who and what they are when they get together in the X-Men.
Gambit is my absolute favorite character. Not only did I pick up Uncanny X-Men 266 off the shelf when it first came out, but I've grabbed all the limited series and short runs about Gambit since. Loved him in the animated series, and I even role played the hell out of Gambit in various online mediums. I'd even go so far as to say I am a scholar of the character, at least up until 2012 when I quit buying comics. Channing Tatum is tied dead even with Chris Potter in portraying Gambit in my mind, and the only live action character at this point in time I'd like to see play him in the future, and trust me, 10-20 years ago, I had a couple people I'd like to see do a live action version, but Tatum just nailed it for me!
Sad thing is, I don't think Disney/Marvel is capable of doing something so grandiose without messing it up, like they have with nearly every show and movie since Avengers: End Game. They've been so driven to get directors and writers that have no passion for the source material, or hire purely on diversity requirements and making a "first" than they are driven to make high tier shows and movies for the fans by true fans. No one cares about these "firsts", people want to be entertained, and they can't seem to get that through their heads. Deadpool and Wolverine is so different than the other post Endgame stuff because the people making D&W have a passion for the characters, and in turn, love and appreciate the fans and want to deliver to us the best thing possible, and they delivered well. D&W had a villain IN the movie, the post Endgame movies and shows made villains out of the fans, and not characters in their shows and movies. Look at the press relating to both, with the other movies and shows, they don't talk about how bad it was, just how bad or toxic the fans are, or how we're racists, sexists, etc. It's nonsense. D&W press showed love and appreciation to the fans, and they keep giving us more and more even after the movie is in theaters, like this "deleted" Gambit clip. THAT is the big difference Disney/Marvel needs to learn from.
Edit: Where does that portal go? Y'know, one of my theories is that it goes to the Avenger's compound battle against Thanos from the end of Endgame. I'm not sure where D&W is in time in relation to the 616 universe, and there seems to be some bouncing around across the Deadpool trilogy, so perhaps that portal opened up to get Gambit to join the fight against Thanos and his children. I mean, after all, in the movie, there were thousands of unnamed and non-descript characters coming through many portals from all over in that sequence. For all we know, the X-Men were in the way back fighting on that front? You could go through every movie where a sling ring opened a portal and draw a connection, and you could go with anything that hasn't happened yet, like the adventure Doctor Strange and Clea went on after their last appearance. Big multiverse, and anything can happen to explain where Gambit is going.
I agree with all three as well. I'm very happy with Tatum's performance as Gambit and look forward to him returning in the MCU going forward.

The first treatment I heard about from way back (the Ocean’s 11 script) would be outstanding.
OK, I’ve watched Ryan (SC) a ton and truly enjoy him. But Colton generally has a great bead on what eventually shows up as character/movie outcomes in his analysis. Ryan goes hard on the comics and when the MCU goes rogue (see what I did :-), he’s sometimes off. The balance is great.
Like Kevin Smith, Ryan making movies with your friends and leaking clips till greenlit, also spot on. Channing’s Gambit is super fun. Channing is box office, too, that helps. A talented actor with a great character they love…is always going to be a solid start.
I didn’t think I’d want a full feature but, like Whitney said, I’d put those colorful cards in a hyperdark movie like Blade, Moonnight, and Daredevil. If everything’s visually dark, the cards can pop instead of being drown out. And Charlie Cox, Tatum, and whomever else can have an Ab Contest on screen! 📺
So I love Ryan, but always watch the credits, Colton writes a lot of the content, even if Ryan is reading it.

Here's my idea for it. So, picture this: Ryan Reynolds producing a Gambit movie-and yeah, it’s not a Deadpool flick, but it sure starts with Deadpool doing his Deadpool thing. Cue the opening scene: Deadpool, feeling a pang of guilt, remembers he left Gambit in the Void. And because he's Deadpool, he decides to fix it by just, you know, opening up a portal like it’s no big deal.
Deadpool pops his head in, all casual, and asks Gambit where he wants to go next. Gambit, in that gloriously over-the-top Cajun accent that’s just a bit off, responds with, “THisMyyyoriginstoreh?” Deadpool, ever the snarky buzzkill, just rolls his eyes and shoots back, “We’re not going there.” But hey, this is Gambit we’re talking about-he’s going somewhere whether Deadpool likes it or not.
Gambit steps through the portal, and bam-he’s smack in the middle of 1989 Mardi Gras. Confused as hell but feeling that familiar vibe, he mutters, “Feels like home to me.” But it’s Mardi Gras, so of course, the chaos kicks in immediately. A pickpocket brushes by him, swiping his precious card deck. Gambit, suddenly aware of what just happened, realizes someone’s messing with the wrong mutant and he’s got that “oh hell no” look in his eyes.
Chase scene! Gambit takes off after the pickpocket, but because he’s Gambit, he does it with style-using beads from a Mardi Gras necklace and charging them with his kinetic powers to force the thief down narrow, winding alleyways in New Orleans. You can practically hear the jazz music ramping up as they weave through the streets. Finally, they hit a dead end.
Gambit, ever the charmer, steps forward, all swagger and menace, and says, “Wheres my mannah's, the name's Gambit, and I think you got somethin’ that belongs to me.” Just as he’s about to get his cards back, a voice from the shadows says, “Think scarin' kids makes you tough?,” and before Gambit can react, wham-he’s knocked out cold.
When he wakes up, tied to a chair, he’s got that “been there, done that” vibe and casually uses his powers to break free, quipping, “This ain’t muh first roDEO, fellahaz.” The kid-the pickpocket-steps forward, hands trembling, holding out Gambit’s cards. There’s this awkward moment of, “Sorry, man, these obviously mean a lot to you.”
And here’s the kicker-this ragtag group of criminals, They’re the same crew Gambit rolled with when he was introduced in the X-Men: The Animated Series.
So yeah, it’s not your run-of-the-mill superhero origin story-it’s got that Deadpool flavor of “WTF is happening,” but with all the Cajun flair and charm Gambit fans have been craving without 4th wall breaking. The movie will subvert our expectations in the sense that at the beginning, Gambit is someone you can barely take seriously (much like Deadpool) but as the movie moves along, his accent starts to become more authentic because he's surrounded by other Cajun accents (and the over-the-top nature returns when it's comedic ally appropriate). This version of Gambit can have some major even occur that gains his character (This version of him) the kind of respect that the Gambit in X-men the animated series did for their Gambit.

If Gambit is truly a character that was “meant to be”, and got snuffed before he got a chance to really exist in the real world, it would be great to see him get inducted into the X-Men
