Thanks man.. I'm thinking about getting it to where I can drive it more but it's going to take some money and work. She's worth it though. Thanks a lot.
Well I'd like to nice up the interior and put a set of radials on it without losing the wide white look. That's kind of pricy. And I need to pull out the tranny and put a synchronizer in the 2nd gear slot, then convert it to 12 volt. I've got a new driver's side glass for it already. After that I'll be ready to drive it to the other coast.. hahaha.
hell yes, nothing like the sound of a old y-block ford v-8, even the lifter noise from their oiling problem that was remedied somewhat with a kit installed to provide oil to the lifters. even so, they were many installations that looked like a drunk monkey put them on with a big pipe wrench and a fifth of moonshine in the gut.
Great video, I’m proud to say that as a teenager I learned how to drive manual on a 69 f100 3 speed column shift a few months back. It’s in the process of getting restored and I also have a 65 f100 I’m working on.
Almost the same with me! I'm 24 and I learned to drive a 3 speed on my 68 F-100 I bought from my Dad. Then I bought a 61 F-100 that he sold a long time ago and we found it again. I have a few videos of them on my channel!
My first car was a 1976 Ford Granada with a 3 on the tree with and in-line 6, the other kids in high school always thought it was an auto until they rode in it. Also had manual steering, manual disk brakes, manual clutch with a extra spring on it, high speed rear end, and I could get 34 mpg at 70. Once or twice I bound up the shifting linkages going from first to second too fast. It finally died with over 500,000 verified miles, granddad had bought it new in 1976 for $3400.00.
What an odd name for a car that was. Back in the day I didn't think much of 'em, but lookin' back I can see they were a lot cooler than I thought at the time. I feel that way about a lot of cars from the past. Them old art deco Mopars were some ugly in the day. Now they're beautiful to behold.. hahah.
Nice video. I learned to drive manual transmission cars in a 1951 Chevrolet DeLuxe. 3 on the tree. Nice and smooth car. Love stick shift driving, specially three on the tree.
My mom used to razz me a bit when she taught me how to drive stick, saying I had it lucky I didn't have to learn on a column shifter. Never really understood how they worked till now. That beast sounds beautiful by the way!
My first car, a 1965 Chevy C10 (in my backyard now) had one of these. And sure enough, like they're know to do, the linkage broke. Pain in the ass to fix it haha. Nowadays I'm driving a 64 international short bed. Owning that C10 long bed in the city was hell to park haha
I learned to dive a 3 (and even a 4) speed transmission on the column not long after I learned how to drive. Back in the 80's, I inherited my great uncle's chevy truck and it had a 3 speed on the column. I noticed that second gear seemed to have a lot of power and then I remembered that my uncle never used it. He would start out in first gear and as soon as he got rolling, he would automatically go to third (bucking along the way). I never recalled him ever using 2nd. gear.
That sounds like the old Y block V8. My grandfather's 65 Ford F100 had the 292 Y block V8 with the manual column shifter. It was the first vehicle I learned how to drive.
thats badass dude im 15 and me and my dad is building a 64 chevy truck floor shifter 4 gear coming really good together but sweet ride u got there old man!
The removal of bench seats is what made column shifters obsolete. A few foreign companies did make vehicles with them until the late 90's I know although they were 5 speed manuals on the column.

I find this type of shift interesting. I have never seen something like this, even though all but one of my cars have had manual transmission. I really like manual transmission. I have a question. Why did the sound of the engine change so much between shifts?
I did that, rebuilt the speedo, changed the bulbs, cable, and freed up the speedo. I video'd it all. Hi, I see you have a toggle switch for the overdrive, and you took off in first. So you must have the governor connected. Is that right? I’m asking because I’m putting an overdrive unit in my old Chevy. Thanks.
I've never quite figured what the toggle switch does but I think it cuts the power to the solenoid locking it out from shifting.. The pull switch also unlocks the solenoid but I'm suspecting it maybe does it only in low gear? I'm not sure. Yes, this is connected to the throttle assembly. It's quite a complicated set of throttle rods and such. I'd study some pictures of the old cars if you can find 'em. I'd considered swapping this one over to a multiple carb setup, but knew I'd have to re configure that throttle setup and decided to pass on doing that.
