Arms have it all - complex anatomy that can be summarised with simple forms, a huge number of muscles, a variety of joint types, rotation, gestural curves... it could feel overwhelming.
As with anything complex, it's best to set yourself up for success by only learning the things you can for the stage you are at. So that's the idea behind this video - I explain what to focus on based on your experience level.
The really cool thing is that you can draw arms decently well with the simple ideas we look at for total novices and really well after learning the beginner skill stages. The intermediate stage is where things get more complicated but also where you start to draw arms really beautifully.
Let me know what stage you are at now in the comments, and whether you like this 'explained at 5 levels' format!

Hey Kenzo. You have nailed another Brillant Teaching video. Imho you have the growing skill to *arm* everyone with the way to see through all the complicated stuff and hack our way through the jungly mass of knowledge towards an oasis where we can all (no matter our skill level) improve and refine our skills. Added to that, the army of humour is a welcome relief to the scene, reminding us that this mission we are all on is supposed to be enjoyable.

I love this...most art videos will tell you about some of the muscles but you go in depth on how the act when the arm moves and its such a huge help i love it i learned more from you then 12 other videos i saw

Thank you for taking such a gentle, encouraging tone and direction throughout this video! I've been struggling a ton with arms, even though I've been drawing for years. And all the other videos I've seen are very cold in tone, and demand you learn each individual muscle inside and out before you even begin thinking about drawing anything!
But you've taken it step by step and acknowledge the process that each person has. Thanks for that.
I really liked your analogy about lifting weights. Don't bite off more than you can chew. I've learnt a lot from this video, so thanks for making it!

what a truly informative video with lots of description and imagery. Ive been drawing figure for maybe a year or something now (on and off) but really trying to pen down more each time i come back to this subject. The arms and legs take a bit to get a hang of (simple forms are okay but to actually draw them well!).
But with the help of practice, observation of other artists and videos on youtube - I think I'm finally starting to really see these rhythms, curves, landmarks, muscle structures, etc.... but Kenzo *this video* has been the BEST so far for ARMS and I'm so impressed by your skill (you make everything look awesome).
I thank you immensely for sharing your knowledge (and probably spending a fair bit of your time to do so !)

    Hi kenzo,
Your words are so clear to me. Thank you for this. And I have a little question which is : As you said earlier to find the negative zone between the arms. I got that. But at last when I am going to add muscles. Doesn't the negative zone get small? I mean if you are going to Exaturate the muscular body. Then the negative zone will no longer be same as the reference. Can you tell me what to do then?
