Of all the spells in Frostgrave, Fog seems to be the main one I hear people asking about how to best represent it on the table. This is a great easy way to do it! Also, I’m excited about the hint of Frostgrave season 3!👍

Thanks Alan! Fog is still odd, since models can pass through the spell. It’s not a “perfect” spell effect to show on the table, but it will work for my table.

    Great work, as always!
    For crumble:
Just make thin doorways with a glowing center... like a magical gate/portal. Place one on either side of the obstacle terrain. You could even paint one orange and one blue... like the Portal video game.
For the floor, paint a black disk and put rubble around the edges.

Direden! This is a really solid idea. Might have to steal this one! 🤓

      Go for it!
My CZcams channel is all about D&D. So, the majority of my time is spent on 5e, Shadowdark, and ICRPG. My oldest son loves Star Wars Legion, that's the tabletop game I play most often. It's rare that I get to play Frostgrave. So, I live vicariously through your channel 😀 Keep up the good work!

Should have known that "I'm done with ruins" didn't mean "I'm done with foam bricks"! Those all look very good.
As for crumble, consider this: put bricks on bright green cardstock so it's a green screen. Go mad as editing times explode. Make a pact with the elder gods. Take over the world.

AHhaa! Interesting "crumble" idea! And glad you enjoyed the project Keggers, it was a fun one!

I play Frostgrave every week and I love this channel.

One way to do "Crumble" might be to create a loose ring of stones using the foam bricks. Maybe adhered to some wire or card stock frame. This can be plopped around a mini (for floor-cast Crumbles) or leaned against a piece of terrain (for holes in walls).
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, you might be able to make the ring out of unscented cat litter (if it says "Ingredients: Fuller's Earth" and nothing else, you've got the right stuff; I bought one bag from Walmart, and it's all the tiny rocks I'll ever need). Maybe create a ring of hot glue on a sheet of parchment paper, then pour the fuller's earth over it. Repeat on the reverse side if you like. Again, a loop of wire could serve as a frame for this, for stability.

For Crumble, my first idea would be to use thin acrylic sheets. If you could cut them into the shape of doorways or holes and tint them with a Speedpaint or ink, then the spell would likely fit no matter the terrain type.

Oh that was worth taking the time to watch properly 😍 thank you Donny! As for Crumble - how about making it look like the terrain has just imploded - so like rubble placed in an explosive fashion, perhaps centred on some glowing magic stuff??

  • @manjr

These are sweet! Now I want to redo my Explosive Runes, because yours look much better. :)
Let's see, some good visible spell effects you haven't done yet:
    Elemental Shield
    Illusionary Soldier
    Glow
    Bones of the Earth
    Furious Quill
    Plague of Insects
    Circle of Protection
    Meteor Strike
    Lots of possibilities!

Crumble token for the tabletop, as in the hole you can open under a figure. Make a flat circular token. Glue on rocks, rubble, sand, dirt, chunks of flat cork with jagged edges. Have the cork turned up so they stick up out of the base. Leave a flat, empty circle inside of it. Paint the whole thing black. Zenithal prime the ring of rubble around it. Leaving the center black. Paint the rubble to look like rubble and disturbed ground. Then you have a hole that just opened up on the terrain. I suppose if you made the same thing with the center part painted to look like a window, sky blue towards the top, browns and greys to look like ground towards the bottom, a pale blue grey horizon line. You could use it to represent the hole magically created in the wall. Make the bottom edge attached to a half round base so you can push it flat to a wall. Make them in pairs so one goes on one side of the wall and the other matches up on the other side.

@DiceChatter I responded before I read the comments and it looks like at least one person had similar ideas. I'm currently building a multi-use, modular, board set. A ruined city that could be used for numerous games like Frostgrave, Mordheim, D&D. Anything that fits that sort of fantasy medieval theme. Eventually I'll have to tackle stuff like this for Frostgrave. Trying to get a lot of it ready so I can try to hook friends on playing. Easier to do if you have everything ready to go and can teach people to play.

You did the Fog the same way I did mine so many years back, but yours look way better.
