    Hi. The cable on the brake is called a brake snake. It’s job is to stop the brake lever from folding out and back on itself. The cable should also run to the inside of the bash plate and attach where ever you can find a good strong spot. Where you have it on the outside of the baseplate it is begging to get snagged. Cheers.👍

    I did the Zeta Trigger brake lever about a month ago on my 300 Rally and really like it, plus it looks incredible. The brake snake doesn't work well on the Rally's plastic belly pan. I might install mine if I ever get an alloy skidplate on mine.
    For those with big feet, it's nice to have a longer shift lever. I've used Hammerhead shifters with their extended shift tips. You can get +10mm and +20mm in addition to stock length. They are pretty reasonably priced, too. The Zeta Revolver is another nice shifter that offers some fine tuning adjustability to the shifter tip, also reasonably priced, and sold by Revzilla (which is a plus since they are nice enough to sponsor you).
    I'm still trying to settle on some footpegs. I think I want Pivot Pegz, but not too keen on spending $200. I grabbed a set of Zeta knocks from Amazon for $20, but I don't think I trust them because they are suspiciously lightweight. They also sit at a funny angle on the bike...you get what you pay for and I got them because they were an open package return for $10 off and I was leaving for camping trip within a few days and Jeff Bezos sent one of his drivers the next day to drop them off...

      Any opinions on the problem with the gear shaft failing when crashing on the left side? I've heard many instances of this. One remedy it to actually have a softer gear shifter not stronger so the shifter fails before the shaft. People I know have actually grinded slots in their gear lever so it will break before the shaft.

    Can confirm the rear brake pedal DOES NOT FIT a 2023 Rally. The offset/jog on the pedal that interacts with the master cylinder is the wrong offset. Could probably mount the master cylinder on the outside of the bracket and install screws from back side……but seems like a bad idea.

    Ok. Watched ya vid. Feeling inspired...again.👍 Ordered my brake pedal...exact model as per link. Pedal arrived, tried to fit but it is not compatible with the 300l!?!? Does not align to the clevis. What did you bend, brake or grind to force this to work "as it should"?

  • @scottsmith1897
    @scottsmith1897 Před rokem

    I tried one of these brake pedals today and it would not fit. The clevis end was about a 1/4" shorter on the zeta pedal. I did swap out the clevis for the zeta one so who knows may try again with the factory clevis.

    Nice mods. CRF "Bling". The stock brake pedal is just asking to get bent. My old XR250L came with a folding braked pedal. Seems like they only cut corners on the CRF300L where you can easily upgrade. Some people may be perfectly happy with the stock bike, some will trick it out. Honda is smart. Quality where it counts.

  • @ionlycomment9134
    @ionlycomment9134 Před 2 lety

    Honda should have paid you a ton to work on this bike. You have shown its capabilities and customizability and added to the off the shelf mods available to people with the ghraphics and the parts you put on. Maybe you should contact yamaha if they ever get off their ass and release a dualsport competitor

  • @mikecurrier5868
    @mikecurrier5868 Před rokem +1

    Jake, I have tried a number of brake pedals like the Zeta Trigger and the bend that connects to the master cylinder is too shallow and forces the plunger out away from the bike and puts the activation in a bit of a bind. I noticed you have the same issue but didn't discuss it. I don't want to try and bend the brake pedal or the master cylinder mount on the bike. Maybe I can mount the brake to the outside of the cylinder connector and use a spacer in the center to keep the shape and a longer pin to connect brake pedal to outside surface of cylinder connector? Your thoughts?

    • @TheGardenSnake
      @TheGardenSnake  Před rokem

      🤔 that’s weird. Mine was slightly tight but I’m pretty sure I bent that in slight when I laid it over on that side. Like it looked tweaked in. So I put a towel around the bracket and vice griped it over a bit. Did it nice a slow and it was fine. I thought I was fixing mine but maybe that’s how they are. If your comfortable doing that then it should be fine. Sorry if I had it wrong.

      @@TheGardenSnake no need to apologize. Seems like some people have had better luck than others with those pedals. I’ll give bending that bracket a try, and maybe a new clevis. If it doesn’t work I’m sure I can find a 250 guy who would want it at a discounted price. No harm done.

    Take it from me..... aka the idiot who rode twice across the country on a WR250R and pissed off/confused EVERYBODY with wtf I was doing.
    Switch back to your "dual sport" trim for the travel portion of your trip and ship your adventure tires to a bike shop close to the event so you can do the tire swap there before doing your offroad stuff once you are in Cali or you will be replacing BOTH of your "Adventure Tires" by the time you get to Flagstaff (instead of just the rear) and then have the knobs on the new set half worn down again by the time you get to the event.
    I'm not here to " Disrespekt tha Cense' " ....... Just wanna see you have the least amount of "issues" with your journey.

      To make the brake useable I made a longer pin (7mm diameter) and drilled a hole for the cotterpin, placed a nut in the center of the mastercylinder bracket as a spacer and had the brake lever sit on the outside of the master bracket. The pin I made had a small head on it so I only had to cotterpin one side, I imagine you could find something that works without making it yourself, I just happen to do cnc work.
