Great Review Rich! I have one from ‘21 that I had modded with new wiring, pots, switch and Burstbucker Pick Ups and I just Love it!! Little known fact, the Deluxe Tuners on Epiphones and Gibsons are made in the same Factory. They’re just stamped with the different names. Please keep up the Good Work! Cheers from Salem, Ohio.

I watched the Guitaristas review of this guitar and he said they messed up the bevels on the horns so they don't really match the true 61 bevels . In the end that does not matter if you don't care about those things. Gibson has been known to screw up the bevels om their ultra expensive custom shop models won't effect the sound and playability but the cosmetics do matter to some especially when these features add to the price of the guitar These guitars sound killer . This is the first review of this guitar I have watched where the guitar is actually in tune.

The bevels are period correct and the same custom shop uses which may differ to the USA line.

Man you look like you are still waiting for that pot of coffee to be ready, but you still wrestle some great licks and tones out of that SG. You are making me a believer in those burstbucker pickups. Angus Young tones just bubbling out of them. I do wonder what the amp are you playing through, any pedals used etc. ? Very nice demo Rich. May have to buy a set of those pickups to replace a Seymour Duncan Hotrod Set in my Epi SG Special and move those to my Eart Headless guitar.

@@RichBischoff Sorry to hear that. Hope you are over it. Must have been slamming that amp model gain. Loved the clipping etc. So far have found anyone on youtube with that same kind of monster sound with that guitar or the Bursbucker 3 pickup. You killed it. Might have been a cure for that sickness. Thanks for the info. I have a Soldano model preset on my Johnson Millennium J-150 amp. Will have to try that with the gain maxed out and see what I get. I might be better off investing in that Line 6 Helix stomp box instead of the guitar.

I going to put a warning out on this guitar.
The first one I had arrived with a broken neck.
The second one arrived perfectly but has since developed cracks on both sides of the neck disguised by the wood grain. The cracks follow the wood grain and are extremely hard to see.
This is a one piece neck and is very thin at the nut where these cracks have started from.
This is definitely a manufacturing problem as the wood is simply not strong enough to cope with the pressure of the strings pulling on it. I’m sure looking at this it is going to be an overall problem on many of these guitars. I have NEVER seen this occur on any Gibson sg in my life, the wood quality for epiphones on this model is not capable of taking these stresses.
The guitar sounds amazing so I’m devastated. My only option now is to dump the body and salvage the pups electronics and pots inc case and get myself a new body from somewhere.
    Damn!

Was it the actual 61 les Paul/sg epi or the regular production 61 epi SG because they are different guitars.. the regular production SG has probuckers and mahogany veneer back and from with lower grade electronics and a different neck carves. The regular production has more of that epiphone D shape and the slim taper necks on those are slimmer than in these. A true 61 neck carve is not as thin as what gibson calls 60s slim taper which is what they use on their USA guitars . The slim taper on gibson USA guitars and regular production epiphones are way too slim. The neck gibisn uses on their les paul standard 60s is alot thinner than a custom shop 1960 les paul reissue I have played many regular production epi 61 Sgs and I have yet to try one that played or sounded good . Personally I have played older G400 epi Sgs and G400 customs that were far better than the newer regular production 61 Sgs . The Alnico classic pros used in the G400s were much better pickups then the probucker 2 and 3 they use now which I'd strange because the Alnico classic pros are 57 classic inspired and the Probuckers are Burstbucker inspired and I like the Burstbucket 2 and 3 quite a bit more than 57 classics but with epipone I prefer their version of the 57 classic over their Burstbucker clone . So the epi 61 les Paul/Sg should sound better than the regular production epi 61. The les paul/sg 61 comes in only 2 colors vintage white and vintage/aged cherry . Basd on all the reviews and videos to my ears this 61 les paul/SG sounds much better. The BB2 and 3 have way more clarity and are much less loose and wooly sounding compared to Probickers . Iam seeing alot or people confusing this guitar with the regular epi 61 and judging this guitar based on their experiences with regular production Model . I have seen alot of people mistakenly think they own this guitar but I most cases it turned out they owned the regular versions. The guitarists compared the the upgraded 61 to a couple of regular production epi SGs and a Gibson SG standard and the the new 61 les paul/SG to my ears was the best of the lot. In fact I thought the Gibson was the least impressive sounding of the lot . The other 2 epis sounded great as well one was a G400 and the other a G400 custom both with Alnico classic pros. The epi 61 les paul/sg sounded the most vintage of the lot
Softer rounder with more twang and Quack . The other 2 Epis were more modern sounding . They had more roar and throatyness and were tighter The gibson was just Meh.

This guitar sounds way better than the gibsom USA 61 Sg but that is done to pickups . If you put the BB2 and BB3 in the Gibson 61 SG it very well could and mostly likely would sound better although not necessarily . I don't like the Burstbucker 61 pickups. They are harsh in the highs and wooly in the lows but I love Burstbucker 2 and 3 . It would be cool to see how close this would sound to a Gibson if both and BB2 and 3 . For my taste Gibson just can't seem to produce a good quality vintage inspired Alnico 5 base pickup in the modern era . Their Alnico 2 and Alnico 3 pickups are amazing 57 classics , classic plus,, Burstbucker 1 2 and 3 , MHS pickups and all the various versions of the Anico 3 custombucker sound absolutely amazing custombuckers and BB2 and 3 are among my all time favorites and in the right guitar 57 classics and classic plus are killer but I strongly dislike the Alnico 5 based gibsom pickups . BB PROS 498T BB 61s and the newer T type pickups which are supposed to be a modern T top ate among my least favorite pickups . It's weird gibskm produces both my favorite and least favorite pickups. They kill it with A2 and A3 pups but blow it with A5. I wonder if it's an issue with the A5 Mags they source or Maybe the A5 Mags are not a good match for the winding pattern they use for their A5 pups. They are bright and harsh while being muddy at the same time but when I use their A2 pups I hear instant vintage bliss.
