Based on you having commented 8 months ago, that being the summer of '12, older trains were being used on the A to take advantage of the long outdoor runs to allow the really old air conditioning units to take a breather from being stuck on the (completely and boiling hot underground) C. The Q22 is also nowhere near the busiest line and does not require long bendy buses.

Once upon a time NYC had dedicated lanes for transit. They were trolleys. It seems like the city is reaching back into the past. Some boneheaded politicians decided that trolleys were bad and that buses were the way to go. So they paved over the tracks and bought in buses which belched out pollution. Way to go. I hope those responsible don't rest in their graves.

Update: All 5 boroughs of NYC have at least one Select Bus route, most of which use either XD60s or post-2016 LFSAs. Some are to be rerouted because of the ongoing bus Redesign and the Metrocard is slowly phasing out in favor of the new OMNY.

Manhttn & Bx are the first ones to get these articulated buses, why is the Rockaways & most of Queens always the last ones to get updated technology & service? The MTA fills our Q22 buses with ads bragging about the improvements to their systems but we don't see it in the Rockaways, it's a shame that the MTA replaces the J trains with new R160 trains & they give the old R42 to the A line. The A is the worst in the city, it comes by every 15 to 20 minutes & the commute itself to Far Rock is long.

It was very fast. But as a tourist, I did not know that unlike a regular bus, you could not simply board and swipe your metro card. I guess the reason you have to pay in advance at a machine is to save time at bus stops.

  • @BJMediaTransit8516

The fare inspectors are usually Police Officers. How you will know when Fare Inspectors are going to check for receipts is when a bus appears at the stop and you see a bunch of Police Officers at the stop, and they get on the bus. They check for receipts.

Quick question. What’s the protocol for when the machines run out of paper? It’s happened to me a few times already. I asked the driver and he said I should call 511?? How’s that going to help me with the ride I just purchased but can’t prove?

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer Před 4 lety

Suinda San Juan There are two machines and if one of them runs out of paper, then the machine should say out of service. If that isn’t the case, then I don’t know what the hell they are doing.
OMNY should help simplify this by moving the payment back on the bus, but at both doors. Ideally, at major transfer hubs, I would recommend off board fare collection using smaller machines.

The S79 Select Bus Service is not exactly an SBS because it has onboard fare collecting at the front of the bus. It must be called Select Bus Service because it makes limited stops, and it runs more frequently. One thing noticeable is that the limited routes only run at certain times on weekdays, and the S79 Select Bus Service runs 7 days a week.

I just recently learned of this new system on some of the crosstown buses. I thought it was a new system but apparently it was started already in 2010. It's a very weird and awkward system. If you haven't already purchased a ride, you're told to get off the bus and buy a fare from the machines. I've seen many people get on in the middle of the bus, are they not purchasing a fare at all?

The last time I was on the Q44-SBS, a fare inspector boarded the bus and out of all the hundreds of people on that sardine can bus, I think two guys didn't pay. Seems to be the same with the thugs who get on and ask the bus driver for a free ride, in this case even less, as when I ride the Q25/34, at least 4-5 people ask for a free ride and get it each time.

This is in case fare inspectors appear at the stop the bus reaches, or if you are boarding or exiting the bus with fare inspectors. It’s actually simplistic
The only people who think it’s stupid are Idiots who can’t understand the simple Ticket Machine
You want faster service but don’t want faster service
      Make up your fucking mind

@TheEsotericDesi I'm always looking for people from NYC. I really would like to talk with you. I know it sounds weird. But I felt in love with the city many years ago. I know lot of things about the place... I was so damn focused about it, I finally reached my dream in Oct 2010 when I came to New York City.
Are you interested in having this kinda conversations? Sure we can talk about anything... i'm so curious about your country and everything! I hope this doesnt bother you...

@NewPSCity Dude, you farebeated. The $2.25 fare is for students older then 12th grade. Under 12th grade you get a student card, but not as a college student. If you didn't have 2.25, then go walk your damn way there. Americans are fat these days anyways (and yes I am American. I live in NYC, and no, I do not go chugging to McD everyday to eat tehre. I actually eat healthy)
