I don't even put this on the goalies. The Wings aren't scoring goals. Got shut out twice, only scored 8 goals the last 5 games. Yes, the goaltending isn't where it was, but those goals against are because of bad team play as much as the goalies. 27 goals scored against in those 5 games. Its unreal. But even with great goaltending, I don't think we would have won any of these past 5 games, except maybe last Saturday's game against Vegas. Fire Lalonde!
Detroit is not allowed to have multiple Detroit pro sports teams be good at the same time and win games on the same day. It's why the Lions lost the NFC championship since the Pistons won a game that day. @@thewizardofoz511

What Torts has done already, getting all the guys to buy in, is incredibly impressive, and even though they may not make the playoffs, he deserves credit for a great year. Yes, I think Torts could get a lot more out of Detroit's lineup.

Feel bad for Larkin, pretty embarrassing he can't rely on his teammates to man the ship while he's away. 0-6 with the Trash Patch, the story writes itself. If the guys getting paid millions to win hockey games don't care to win hockey games, then I don't care if they win either. I don't get paid anything! Sucks looking forward to games just to have it be over in 10 minutes but it is kinda funny in its own way. Still not out of it but definitely pretty annoying.

Amazing that we're even in the playoff discussion considering we come out flatter than a cup of tap water 99% of the time. I'd hate to point fingers but things like Newsy saying "this isn't a must win game" don't give me much confidence in the coaching.

On any given day, the Sabres can make any team look bad. They put up 7 against VGK the other day. 9 against the Leafs earlier this season. Maddeningly inconsistent, though. Swept by Anaheim for the season.
This isn't surprising. They don't match up well with Buffalo anyway.
Anyone can put 9 against the leafs you kidding? Have you seen their D and goaltending?
Two against LV, shut out the Avs, blew out LA, beat up NYR, so Buff, if they can get out of their own way, can blow past any team.
It's like they're genuinely not trying. It's very infuriating.
I could tell from the first 2 mins last night that it was going to be a shit show (another one). Turnovers in our own zone in the first 2 mins as we lazily passed the puck at slow speed without looking around - I thought, oh here we go, this does not look good already. Everything just seemed so laconic and this is the first 2 mins of a game. Unforgivable. Lord knows what gets said in the locker room just before to make them come out so flat and uninterested. It was like Blashill's time all over again, they used to do this a lot under him......just flat from minute 1 I cant fathom it. If it was me you'd better believe I'm coming out of the locker room like I've been mainlining steroids, eyes bulging, legs pumping, ready to go. These guys just slide out lazily like they've just woken up. Remember how Mantha looked just before we traded him? Just gliding around without a care? Throttle at 25%. These guys all looked like that last night. They were beat before the first faceoff. Thats coaching.
Players on the Griffins in the AHL must be licking their lips at the idea of playing on the Red Wings next season. There is going to be at least one major off season trade of players. Even if it only gets them draft picks. Opening up cap space in 24/25 is probably needed in the off season.
Not like they'll get a chance to play with the wings anyways. Edvinsson has hands down more talent speed and ability than your bottom 4 defenseman, and has now wasted a full year of his pro career playing in gr.
Yzerman has signed too many bad contracts to let the young players play in NHL and is it cost them. Kane and Sprong need to be sign but they don’t have the money because Raymond and Mo need extensions and no one wants these over priced players on 3 to 4 deals.
Stevie is a good drafter but terrible at the rest of part of being a GM.
first time this season i turned off the game
This is only the second time I've done it this season, the other time was halfway through the 3rd period against AZ last week. This time I turned it off during the 1st. All season long, it seemed that even when the Wings were down in the third, they had fight and you knew they had a chance to come back. That was totally missing this game. After going down 3, I knew they weren't coming back.
@@captbloodbeard Yeah, I kept yelling at the tv "get mad" because they looked lifeless. Now it looks like at least some passion erupted in practice. So we'll hope it sparks some sort of positive.

They would have a better chance of winning with Edvinsson and Johansson and should bring at least one of them up asap.

I’m pretty new to Hockey but I doubt it’s normal for a team to be this inconsistent without having more serious problems than we realized.
Facts......
Detroit's problems have been well documented by the analytics community all season. Its why the models kept giving them such a low chance to make the playoffs, it was at or below 50% pretty much up until this past winning streak when all the models I've seen finally gave Detroit a good chance of making the playoffs (75% by Dom's model at The Athletic). Then this skid happened.
Detroit's record had been bolstered by a very high shooting percentage and a run of excellent goaltending. These are not generally considered to be sustainable by the fancy stats folks.
@@captbloodbeard The defense has been a shit show since the very start of the season, most people could see it but what was hiding it was great offense and some runs of stellar goaltending. Take away the goaltending and the offense and the problem is laid bare and its been there since the start. We really needed some D moves at the TDL if we were serious about playoffs. This implosion was always on the cards without a D retool, it was just a matter of time. Maybe next year.

As a Sabres fan who went to this game… amazing to watch for my guys. The Wings though… yeesh. And they had a ton of fans there for them. Not a Red Wings hater by any means but the goaltending really wasn’t there for them and the Sabres were all over it. Amazing game for the Sabres really loving Bryam’s production. Definitely a way to earn some fans is to score. Loved him since the trade and love the game he plays. Yikes for the Red Wings though, unfortunate. Would love to hear your thoughts on Byram in an ask me anything so I’ll definitely watch for the post I’ve missed too many. Also love your content keep it up man

The same as last year,the Red Wings fold at the trade deadline. Losing Larkin hurt and the goaltending this season was unsustainable. Lalonde ran out of luck when he overplayed Lyon,didn’t trust Reimer,and Husso couldn’t stay healthy. I think that 90 points sounds reasonable and hope that Cossa is NHL ready next year.

WE NEED A COACH. It's fine to delegate the room to the players but you need to be able to be heard if the leader is injured. The 3 biggest common factors in the biggest losing streaks this year.
1- missing Larkin
2- terrible starts to games
3- lack of effort for most of the game

All im gonna say is this, in the past 5 games they have been outscored by 21 goals, yes 32 goals against and only 11 goals for IN FIVE GAMES!!!!!

100% agree 0 compete seen from these guys. I get the captain is gone and that might affect the group, but this level of play is inexcusable. Someone needs to step up and try to be a leader in Larkins absence and say something reaffirming for the room.
Yzerman left the team alone at the trade deadline giving the current roster a chance to fight their way into the playoffs. The Wings still have a chance to pull out of this nosedive. After tonight's performance they have their work cut out for them.
Team is sunk. Not a playoff team. Not a lottery team. This isn’t growing pains. Their future is bankrupt. Their sole star has been physically demolished this season. Yzerman’s bet on the wrong things and now this is worse than even last season.

I'm just flabbergasted. We're finally on track to make the playoffs for the first time in 7 years and they're blowing it. Sure our expectations weren't super high this season, this team is still being built to be a contender, but they were playing so well. How could they fall off so hard?
Priority may claim to be more than a garbage company, but they're a "garbage" company. I've seen video of them just throwing people's sorted recycling right into the back of the garbage truck with their trash. And yeah, the curse is real.

Fire Lalonde. I'm sick of seeing him always trying to take the positives out of bad games. He never gets pissed. Maybe if we get a post-coach-change bump, we can salvage this season. Do it now, not when 5 other teams have passed us or in the off season. Not being able to get the guys to compete without Larkin is on the coach. It should be on the coach even with Larkin in the lineup, but its all too apparent every time Larkin is out of the line-up, the team looks lost. That means that Larkin is doing the heavy lifting of keeping the team's compete level up.
You do it now, they fall apart for sure. You can’t make the playoffs on a coaching change less than a month out. Coaching change at this point is just getting ready for next season.
