Since we picked up Mathews and Marner we haven't missed the playoffs except for the broken up year due to covid. When he gives half of the salary to 4 guys it becomes his fault. 3 of which have grossly under performed in the playoffs the last two years (one being Tavares, while it sounds awful, I dont think his point production would of changed much whether injured or not). Look at Teams still in the race, Teams doing well, none of them structure contracts like this. Leafs are so top heavy and the top crumbles in the playoffs, which means Leafs turn from a Great team in the regular season to a bottom 5 team in the playoffs because the Top Heavy guys getting paid the big money disappear. Marner has to go and Tavares' contract needs to be restructured. Anything other than these steps will lead to a the same outcome in future years.

The first playoff game the other team almost killed the Toronto Maple Leaf Captain. It was not taken serious enough. The line the captain was in was a good strong line. This whole situation took away from the Toronto Maple Leafs team. I believe the Toronto Maple Leafs would have gone into the second round if they had, had their captain playing the whole time.
I believe it would’ve been a completely different series with Tavares playing. I thought John was dead on the ice. I don’t think it would’ve went to seven if we had our captain. He was needed in those big moments as well as taking some of the pressure off 34 & 16 to carry the team with scoring all the goals
you are an idiot. The leafs would have lost regardless of Tavares being there or not. They couldn't even beat Columbus in a best of 5 last year. Or did you forget that? This team can.not.win. when it matters. They don't know how to.
What are you talking about? The Leafs GOT depth scoring. It's their top unit that failed to produce as expected and this unfortunately happens sometimes.
@@philllllllll I'm not defending the top unit. They 5hat the bed (hence they're overpaid) but they were also matched up against a very good possession line in Danault. Keefe was stubborn in not splitting it up to get better matchups, and he should have NEVER sat Dermott for Sandin. Kerfoot and Spezza WERE productive but Mikhayev, Simmons, Thornton, Engvall, Foligno, Hyman, Nash, Brooks, etc. had 5 points. Galchenyuk had pretty much ONE good game. The Leafs could have kept Connor Brown and Kadri, had they not overpaid the top 4 and gone penny pinching afterwards.
I really think the team needs PK Subban. A big explosive D man with a huge shot. He'd bring the energy to Toronto and he'd play MUCHHHH better at home.
How many times was Marner knocked to the ice by an arm or someone blowing wind from their mouth. The time he is knocked down to the ice is wasted time that a bigger player could contribute to the offence.
I think all the fans chirping and turning on the Leafs, especially about Mitchy n' Mathews don't really know what they're looking at. Yes I feel those two were the biggest problem with this series but they still played hard and Mitch was still our best defensive forward. Mitch was trying to force the play instead of allowing the play to happen with the way he can handle the puck, skate and his vision. He wasn't as poised with the puck as he normally is, in other words, he was trying a little too hard and frustrated himself. Mathews problem, in my eyes, was the fact that he wasn't sticking up for himself in the scrums and wasn't really chirping back at them when they chirped at him. Allowing himself to get bullied and pushed around after the play probably got to him and frustrated him. The way he played was great, he just didn't get the bounces that his talent typically generates. They are both highly talented two way players that you don't just get rid of. Mitch needs to be more patient with the puck and Mathews needs to push back after the play, but neither of them made glaring mistakes. I luv Joey T but he made more misplays then our top two put together and same with Sandin. Another major factor in losing this series was the fact that we lost our captain in the devastating fashion we did after the first 10 minutes of the series. Then Foligno misses a couple games and the lines were getting juggled so much because of these injuries not to mention losing Muzzin after his big game getting us to overtime. A lot of B.S. injuries happened to our team in this series that were the factors to losing it, definitely not Mitch's or Mathews play. This is the game of puck, as a player and coach of the game, I know that my team can outplay the other team and still lose. It sux, I know, but we just have to learn from our experiences and move on. That's all we can do. GO LEAFS GO!!!
AFTER listening to Shanahan, Dubas and Keefe I have come to the conclusion that they are a major part of the problem. Fire these clowns and hire some EXPERIENCED NHL executives. Both Hunter or Lamoriello would have been far better hockey men.
Each of them had ZERO experience before being hired. (Shanahan hadn't managed anything at all!) They are learning on the job. It's totally naive to think they are the right guys. It will take them a decade to become seasoned NHL exec / GM / coach.
These big contracts for young 'superstars' should be lower but with a huge bonus for a cup win. If teams could somehow swing that, we would see incredibly competitive hockey. Hand a young player millions of dollars and you will see some comfortability without a doubt. Its human nature. More on the comfortable side than the drive side. Similar to back in the day when all those Leafs had the no trade clause. They might not even know it, but too comfortable vibe is there.
I heard all year about how great the leafs were from media and leafs fans. How they were different this time and built for the playoffs. I picked the jets to come out of this division before the season and I'm going to stick with them.

2021 It's who you know. Didn't you here.
No scoring depth caused by Dubas overpaying for his forwards. That's why you lost Dubas....
17 different Leafs scored a point, the Habs only had 14
Last thing they need is a self involved over rated locker room cancer
Jason must return. He has that passion to win. Land he has earned another year for his full season of heart and passion to winning

Fire the ENTRIE FRONT OFFICE!! Inculding interns!! Gut it!! Gut it!! Gut it!!
